I think it's wonderful you prioritize your family 🥰 such lucky kids who have a mom with such a big heart! You're doing so well, I would love to see you try doing a video where you go on a "trash hunt" on the basement....go through half or all of the basement if you can and only look for trash, plastic bags, paper, boxes. I think you have gotten so good at quickly recognizing trash you could do it well and then your future basement declutters you could go thought more substantial stuff

Flylady is always reminding us to jump in where you are, and that's what you've done! You shined your sink and put out that main fire!!! Spend TWO minutes at night and another TWO in the morning (if needed) to maintain that countertop and it will stay a happy place. 🙌 Timers are our friend! I wipe down my sink every night, and by wipe down I mean wipe it dry with today's hand towel. Then my once a week (or more often every other week...) scrub with bar keepers friend is super easy! Your baby steps are working for you!!!

Hi H.H! You work six days a week girl, please give yourself some grace, you're an amazing hardworking mama! I just wanted to offer a little tip if I may...if you don't already, after you scrub out your sink, pop the drain mesh(food bit catcher thingy, lol), into the dishwasher, it will come out looking like new. I've had mine for years, you totally need one in an older home with older plumbing, and it's never rusted on me from the dishwasher. Keep on keeping on girl!

So cool! Thank you for sharing the hotspot decluttering! I think this idea is equally as important as deep decluttering, because it is a daily habit that keeps us processing the items we bring into the house and the things we use.
I remember visiting a friends house as a child and being amazed that my friends started cleaning the bowls we were using as we were still mixing and making the cookies. Why? I'll never forget this was my first exposure to the idea of cleaning as you went along, as a continuous process that went hand in hand with new creations, instead of a separate process afterwards.
There's the concept of returning back to zero, to the origin or starting point. There's the idea of keeping your utile objects ready for use, to lower the time it takes to start a new project. The counter is now cleared and ready to start new projects!
It is so liberating to feel ready to cook in the kitchen, to have all the counter space cleared snd ready for action! I love it!

I absolutely loved reading your message!! So beautifully written!! I noticed that with my friends too...they clean as soon as they were done: the cookie bowl, rinsed the dishes right after they ate, placed the item back in their homes. It’s their unconscious habit they created over time. We are creating that subconscious habit too...it takes time but before we know it, we’ll have it too 💞

It’s just like you said. If you take 15 minutes after dinner and do the dishes and a tidy of the hot spots you will be able to keep your house nice! Don’t forget that you are human though and that sometimes you have to do things you didn’t plan on doing! Try not to be hard on yourself ❤️

I've been decluttering with you this week! I started finding new homes for the things I wanted to let go of. My Buy Nothing Facebook group is great for helping me feel like I'm really helping others with the things I no longer want.
I decluttered some clothes I didn't think I would wear again, and the woman who took them had been suffering weight gain from a new medication. That's enough of a struggle without needing to replace a whole wardrobe!
I also finally got up the energy to sell some things and made a little bit of money back from some mistaken purchases. That felt good, too. Someone else will enjoy them more than I will!
I need all the calm empty space I can get. My anxiety is pretty bad this week. 😨 My bad coping mechanisms are knocking at the door and I don't want to let them in.

You're starting recognize and getting rid of the mess quicker and quicker. That pile on the floor is smaller than the last one you showed us. That's progress. And you open up a drawer and the snacks were nicely organized not just dumped in there. You opened another where things were more or less categorised and you called it a bit of a hot mess. That's huge. I hope you see how much you grown.

unless you start putting things away as soon as you use them, this will never stop. You are doing great with the decluttering for sure, but moving stuff from one place to another is re-locating...not de-cluttering
use the jar to put your wipes in. Gets rid of the box, and utilizes the jar

@@ahoardersheart that is a wonderful perspective. Perfect way to look at it. I tell all my clients, 10 items and 10 minutes a day will keep you moving along. Never EVER let a day go by where at least 10 things dont leave your home.
      YOU CAN DO THIS
Everyone works, everyone has children, everyone has the same 24 hours. Its how you use them. Making these changes and forming habits will make your house a home again.
Never wait for something to get dirty to clean it, keep it clean...

Not only you should put things away, but also your kids and your husband. Guess all that candy is not all from you 😉 Just put it back in the pantry , kids can do that too! They can also help with dishes. You could even do them together and have a little chat and have some family time. I do the dishes after every meal, our kitchen counter has gotten very empty during the past months since I wanted to try how it feels if it is empty. And it feels great! And also it is easier to keep clean and empty. You are doing great, keep it up!

If it helps at all, the way that I made cleaning my house a breeze was called ‘putting it in its place.’ 1. If something was used, it’s cleaned and put back immediately when you’re done. 2. If you brought it in your house, take it out of the bags and put it away immediately. 3. When you get the mail, go through it and put the keep in a keep pile then file and throw the rest away. 4. Clean the room. Before you leave a room, pick it up before hand. When you leave it will be clean. It helps! It will put you in the habit of cleaning as you live your life and before long it’s not a chore.

Great job! I have been working super hard on finding a home for everything that I have. It's getting there! That way, I can just put things back where they belong. Plus, setting up systems like dealing with incoming paper...I put bills in my desk, papers to be filed in a small file box in my desk, and shred or toss everyday. Keep up your good work!!

Kitchens are high-traffic areas that tend to be catch-alls! I know I had this issue with my personal desk- it would get horribly cluttered after a few weeks, even if i did a deep clean. What helped me personally was not just decluttering (which helped me to have fewer things to place strewn about) but having a home for everything that I could put away within seconds. You're doing amazing! What a journey you've had :^)

You are doing such a great job, keep up the good work. Small habits add up over time and set the tone for larger changes. One suggestion would be to empty bags immediately (except your gifted bags since I know that is another issue) when you bring them in to the house and never set anything on the floor. Even if you stack the stuff on your hot spot to get to in your 15 min tidy. That way your floor will always look clean.

    • @nancykaplan7163
      @nancykaplan7163 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

YEs, good idea, not the gift bag. (i sympathize about the gift bag. But the other bags. even if i'm totally rushed i always unpack the bag on the counter or table. So afraid i might have forgotten a jug of milk or something that grabbed when shopping,

Since having to put my home on the market, it was organized and staged to perfection. And when I have let it slide, it never fails, we get a showing. Keeping up is so much easier than having to do a massive clean and run around like a crazy person. Even if you do nothing else than washing dishes and doing 2 5 min hot spots in your living room and kitchen every day will make a world of difference. I also recommend you watch Clutterbug. She has 4 different type of organizing styles and I think that might help you to put systems in place to keep everything organized. So proud of the progress you are making!!!

I really love watching your videos! I wanted to share something I do in my landing zone in case it sounded like it would fit your cleaning style.
I usually have spots for things in the landing zone so that I can group them into where they need to be put away later. I know that putting things down quickly or needing time to think about where it should go, is what my current habit is and changing habits takes some work and small steps (as you well know I'm sure!) . As a halfway step to putting things in their home immediately, I have a spot for things that need to be put in the kitchen or to deal with on my computer. That makes it faster to put away when I have time or to see the tasks I need to complete. The items are the visual reminder for tasks without being inconvenient or are quick to pick up in a bundle and taken to the right spot.
I can see you had papers, foods and kitchen things as some of your categories, maybe you can find some of your small organisers to try out a grouping method? I think a miscellaneous group is also useful if the immediate decision making is hard. You can separate the easier stuff straight away and let the item sit in your mind for a little bit while you make a decision.
Sorry for the long message... Oops.
I hope you and your family are staying safe and well!

You would do yourself a big favor if you would stop yourself and your family from unloading or parking things on the floor. I realize if you are decluttering things, you need to sort some stuff on the floor, but the session should not be over until everything is put somewhere. Also, before bed, have everyone do a pickup of floors and surfaces. That will help you all, and give you more quality time with your family. I have to get better on all of the above, too.

You are getting a lot better. I remember the islands of clutter on your kitchen floor were about waist height, a while ago. I think you would find it an amazing improvement if you can stop using the kitchen floor as a dumping station. A complete kitchen floor declutter would be a great idea too, especially sooner than later before your new floor goes down. Then when your new floor goes down you can enjoy it without it filling up with clutter. BTW That notice board on the floor has caught my notice again, is that on the to do list still :D

It is hard to maintain at the same time you are decluttering the garage and the basement. But you have come so far, I believe you Can do it!
15 minutes a Day does a lot! The more decluttered a room is, the more clutter Will come. If a room is clean, you Will not leave so much clutter behind you. Clutter attracts clutter. Hugs ❤️😊
I wonder - how many hours a week do you work?

  • @Hi998452XP
    @Hi998452XP 4 ปีที่แล้ว

You're (hopefully) getting your carpet taken out near my birthday :) Consider it a b-day present from me to you, haha! Even the best of us deal with stuff piling up from time to time. The key to keeping it a regular hobby is to make it a habit, such as once a week reaching for the stuff on the floor and the dining table :) It happens, and when you work a lot, it happens even more because we're exhausted. No worries there. Just keep working on it a day at a time.
One thing that might help is getting a sorting tray to put the mail in on the counter- at least until you get a regular habit going. That way all the mail that comes in you can put it in there so it looks a little bit better and keeps it out of the way. When the tray is full, you'll know you have to go through it!

I always have an additional shopping bag in my backpack in case i need to put groceries in it. If you have a smaller or light version of a tote bag you could keep it in your purse. I don't have a car but i would completely forget about it, if i just kept it in the car. I always have my backpack with me so chances to actually use the tote bag are much higher.

Can you put the toaster oven to the left of the oven? That would clear up the area to the right of the sink to be usable food prep space AND it would eliminate that oh-so-convenient clutter area in the corner where you can stack stuff up. It shouldn't be an issue for the heat on the sides because it's shielded, and there would be ventilation above.

Then so I can clean out our house up the hill & builds clear them out. If I haven't seem it I'm given it to Goodwill or somebody. I don't know how my house up the hill got in that mess. Once your week doesn't include a sixth day, how about have the boundary that once the counter gets half covered, it's time for a 15 minute declutter at least before the end of the night. This way in the morning you have the satisfaction of having a clear floor AND an empty sink. Even if in one shot like after shopping and the whole counter gets full, again you know to do a 15 declutter by the end of the night. My point is not to decide to declutter once the counter is fully packed, but 1/2 way. This is an idea to set yourself up for success so that nothing ever needs to land on the floor. By the way, I'm calling the kettle black because I just realized I have stuff on my floor🤪 as I write this to you.

First see video. Your doing a great job. Maybe you should look at Marie Kondo before the Fly lady and it would then be easier to Fly.

Everyone gets given 24hrs a day but we all get given varying amounts of energy to do those 24hrs. Things pile up because you put your energy elsewhere. It happens. It’s ok that you need to keep coming back to the kitchen for tidying up. That’s family life.

why dont you just put a handful of the wipes in that pretty glass jar or put it all in a plain or decorative basket will make it look less cluttered without actually removing them completely. ive recently started putting my cereal in clear containers because they are stored on open shelves and its amazing how less cluttered it looks just by getting rid of those boxes with the busy writing and colours x your doing great btw keep it up x

You can use the jar to store your disposable masks or the clean reusable ones. This way, all your covid items are in the same place, and that allows you, your husband, or your kids to not forget about them and create a habit ^^

I got an idea watching this video, and I don't know if you would find it useful or not. You have decorations on every single horizontal surface in your home that I have seen. Farmhouse Vernacular has a video on minimizing horizontal surfaces in order to minimize clutter that has really made me think. You do need horizontal surfaces for eating, working etc. What if you were to try having one horizontal surface that was always bare - that means no decor at all - unless being used? It could be this counter, or another section of counter, or your dining table. You could try never having anything on it unless it's being used, e.g. for preparing or eating food, and the rest of the time you had a rule that no one ever leaves anything on it ever. It may be that having decorations on part of the surface encourages putting other things on the surface, and that it might be easier to keep the clutter off by keeping everything off. I have no idea if this would help or not, but it might be an interesting experiment to keep a section bare to see how you react to it. Maybe you'd freak out at first over having a completely bare surface, but might like it if you got used to it, especially if it's a nice-looking surface. Then give it a few weeks or a month or two and see if it helps with clutter.
I know in the long run that the only way to deal with clutter is to have a place for everything and everything in its place, but that you are still a ways away from having a place for everything. You will get there eventually.
(Full confession: I have very little decor and I only have that because I can't bear the unrelenting whiteness of a rented apartment, so, for example, I have a couple of old Christmas cards on my mantlepiece to add some colour. If I owned, I would paint the walls rich colours and leave them mostly or entirely bare. The things I have out on counters are there because I use them regularly. I honestly do not understand how anyone can cope with all that decor. To me it is 100% clutter.)
