New to your videos, I've been watching so many videos on cleaning, so many people with crazy hacks or long complicated tips. Whereas, you talk about altering a habit you already have. I really like this. I fully feel heard and seen with your video, I've subscribed and I'm about to watch a bunch more on your channel!

Awesome improvements! When I was young, we had a chore chart with age/ability-appropriate chores that my siblings and I rotated monthly: feeding the cat, emptying the dishwasher, sweeping the floor. Taking care of pets is a great responsibility for kids! By teen years, we were making our own school lunches and doing our own laundry. We used to have to put our dishes in the sink after meals as well, and then one day my mom said, "You're all old enough to put your own dishes in the dishwasher." I was affronted, thinking, "But that's your job, Mom!" Ha! She gathered us around and showed the way we should load it. I'm sure we didn't always do it exactly like she would have, but we still learned more about keeping a household running and took a little off her plate!
Part of parenting is teaching your kids how to be functional adults--of course you know that, but I think household skills, like how to clean a bathroom, are so important to learn, especially for boys because they shouldn't grow up with the idea that those things will always be done for them!

I have severe ADHD. Sitting still is very hard. I’m always subconsciously doing too many things at once. I really like how you narrowed your goals down to weed out what you already have on autopilot. I need to try this. I have had to become extremely minimalist with the amount of stuff I have in my home or I will do nothing but clean constantly. Reducing inventory by literally about 80% has helped me tremendously. I now have some time to do things I enjoy instead of the constant cleaning.

I love what you've done to modify the Fly Lady system for yourself! I have adapted it several times for myself, and I'm sure will again as life changes and as I change! I have chronic illness, and I don't know from day to day how much energy I will have. So I've started using a white board and colored dry erase markers to list what I'd like to get done in rainbow order of importance. Then if I'm having a flare day and can't do much, I just erase what I won't get done and carry on😊. If I just get the red stuff done, that's totally fine! Red is my daily habits that I'm working on, that make the most difference in how I feel. (Dishes, personal hygiene, wiping bathroom counter, and making the bed).

Oh, and my color categories are as follows, for anyone interested:
      ❤️ - daily tasks
🧡 - important today (cooking, and time sensitive to that day)
💛 - 10 minute home blessing (I keep a list of "weekly" cleaning tasks to the side and cross out as I do them, then write the list again)
💚 - daily focus (each day of the week has something, ie, order groceries on Fridays)
💙 - appointments, anything happening at a certain time
💜 - zone clean or extra I want to get done
💗 - habits (movement, journal, etc)

Re the clothes on the floor - is there somewhere on a wall near your closet you could put a couple of hooks? Anything you plan to rewear goes on a hook, anything you’re done with goes on the floor to be put in the hamper tomorrow (or hopefully, eventually, tonight! For example, could you change by the hamper rather than in front of your closet?) My husband and I have hooks for our ‘wear again’ clothes, and it keeps stuff off the floor (except socks).

Hi! Love your videos…an idea for clothes that helped me…I did away with my habit of re-wearing clothes so nothing to hang up…I wear it once and into the laundry…so much less to keep track of I wash things on a quick wash to not over wash them…a big game changer for me…good luck on your new system

This was awesome! I have always struggled with the fly lady system. Thought I was just a loser. Instead, I just keep plugging away getting better. Journey not a destination. Now I understand why. I love the three goals. Mine will be similar.
BTW Some of this video and the one Jessica did recently on How to ADHD were similar. It was the one on kids products for those of us with ADHD.

I just wanted to write a thank you note to you! I'm a teacher, in my late 30s. I discovered your channel few months ago, and it has really helped me realize that I have some hoarding tendencies and attachment to my stuff due to struggles during childhood etc. Your videos helped me realize this and I'm working on dealing with those emotions and the stuff. I also wanted to say another thank you to how you describe the way your brain works. I struggle with a lot of things due to my busy mind, but I could never figure out why. After hearing you talk about ADHD and how your brain works, I really started to notice that this is how my brain works a lot too. I actually got an assessment done and it is SO CLEAR that I have ADHD. So thanks to you I'm hoping that I can develop some better strategies to deal with certain things and get medication for the ADHD to help my brain a bit too. Many cuddles to Pepper!

I like that you are confident to tweak schedules to make it work for you. I'm one of those that has repeatedly failed at the fly lady method as well as other you tuber suggestions. I finally wrote out my own weekly clean and organize schedule along with doing a 20 minute tidy every morning, targeting specific hot spot areas. Success is achieved when I create habits and habits make cleaning easier.

I worked as an elementary teacher for 12 years and then worked in special education for 13 years. I have a suggestion for you since you are trying to make a new habit of putting your clothes away. I would temporarily move your clothes hamper, without a lid, in front of your closet so you immediately put the dirty clothes in it or hang your clothes up. When I was teaching a student with special needs to hang his coat up, I put a hook near the door so he would quickly hang it up. He had immediate success! He normally just walked in halfway to the hook and dropped his coat on the floor. Over time, I moved the hook to the other side of the room where it needed to be. Your new list is perfect by the way. Well done!

Ah! THAT'S where I get tripped up on daily routines! I write every little thing, even the ones that I automatically do without fail! I need to just write down the ones that are not automatic but just as important. If I do that, then eventually, hopefully, all I need to write gor my routines will be general categories like, "self-care, quiet time and planning, pet care, housekeeping, etc" right now, general is too vague, but my current lists are too detailed lol. Thanks! I'm going to start doing this, starting in the next few minutes ❤

I have adhd and I’m also autistic and have difficulty with executive functioning, so for me, adding, hygiene and getting undressed to my journal helps me. I use the journal more as a guide for me, and for my family too, to help check things off.
I do a mixture of the fly lady method and the organisation mum too (she’s been a game changer for me)
The house is actually starting to get clean.
Also, can we get a video on your piggies? What breed are they? Girls or boys? How many do you have? I have six, a neutered boar and 5 girls. :)

It's crazy how adhd patterns like bag of papers & this are so relatable! Great job! I did the same thing with my planner, it had a beginning page for year goals in different aspects of your life and daily routines. I found I wrote it once to visualize an ideal day, but then I ended up using my bullet journal for habit tracking on the things I need to tackle. So I have a daily/weekly/monthly grid on just a page & its like 15 min declutter once a week or my duolingo once a day.
Also for the bedroom, I find I'm pooped by the end of the day, so some nights I just throw everything onto the floor and sleep. Now in the mornings I make sure to scan the room to fix my bed, get rid of my napkins or trash that accumulate somehow, then take my medicine b4 leaving and starting the day (aside from when I need to pee right away lol). I have to make a conscious effort to not dart to work until those key things are put away which takes 5 min while my mind wakes up and thinks about the rest of the daily stuff I need to do!
I always enjoy your videos. You just keep giving great content & happy to be part of the journey!

Have you read much about ADHD and executive dysfunction?
Personally, I also know I function better between 10 and 1. So the author of The Drummer and the Great Mountain suggested doing all of the HARDEST executive-heavy tasks during that window. It sounds like you function really well in the mornings, so picking up the house is great to do in the mornings. 👍

Why don't you keep a pop up hamper right inside your closet in front of the spot where you regularly drop it. We are so mentally drained and exhausted that if we have to even go over to another spot to complete a task I'd rather not. It's not lazy its just that you're already on the next thing. Love this video!!!!

I'm wondering if you moved your hamper to where you naturally drop the clothes, if that would help over time and you can move the hamper back in a while?

I used to pile up clothes long ago until I started repeating my outfits in consecutive days. That way I now the true rotation of my clothes and no one has ever commented on it. probably they see I wear the same thing for a couple of days but it hasn't affect my daily life.

This looks like a good plan. I hope it works. I should come up with a plan to vacuum and sweep more often.
Wouldn't it be necessary to clean the table before dinner? Or do you not eat at the table?
For clothes, I have my nightgown hanging in the closet, so it's super easy to hang up my clothes when I change for bed. I can see how it would be easier for you in the morning because that's when you're at the closet.

My mom was a night owl....usually she would sew our clothes without interruption. She would check in on us before she went to bed. If I had things on the floor she would wake me up late at night to put those things away. I never did that to my kids...it was because being woke up in the middle of the night was not fun.

Could your table and chairs fit into your kitchen, so, you can all eat there together? You could put something else in its place and maybe it wouldn't be such a hot spot as your table. I love you and your videos. Always click on them as soon as they pop up! You are such a sweet person and you have done an amazing job. Thank you. You really have helped me. One small step at a time. 💖

I agree with her mainly because it is Ms Heart that has the ADHD not her boys. So it would be good for her boys to develop chore habits that will be easier for them than it was and is for her. Donna

Hey Mrs. Heart, I hope you don’t take this as criticism, or think that I’m trying to insult you…. but I wanted to say this:
A lot of the time, it seems that the many of the messes you are constantly cleaning up belong to your boys. A good example would be that table, which is always cluttered with their projects, or the front of the TV area.
You’re only one person, you cannot clean up after 4 people. It’s just not possible.
I think the best way to help you get on top of your cleaning routine is to designate chores to the boys. They’re old enough to know that contributing to household responsibilities is the right thing to do. They should be cleaning up their own messes, putting things away when they’re done with them, doing their own laundry, and taking care of their room regularly. It should just come naturally to them.
I would create a chore chart for them. They have their daily expectations… and then maybe once a week, they have one or two additional chores that help out in the common areas, like vacuuming the living room or sweeping up the kitchen.
I think this will help them become responsible young men, and it takes so much pressure off of you and your husband. Y’all work extremely hard to provide them a good life; it’s not unfair to expect them to help out in the household. They’re children; they’re going to make mistakes. And when they do, you shower them with love and grace, but remain firm in saying, “This is what is expected. We all have to pitch in.”

She did have her boys clean up later. She said that in the video. I know you didn’t mean to sound offensive, but as someone who has and is there, your suggestion was overwhelming and judgmental for me.

    • @brandonc.5663
      @brandonc.5663 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

@@Darnabymom I'm sorry if you found it judgmental, because that was not my intention. But I won't change how I feel. It's unfair to her to burden herself with so much responsibility. She is just one person, she cannot do it all. And she shouldn't have to. She's a kind person and a wonderful mother. It was not meant as an attack.

Hi there, It's good to do whatever is good for you or whatever works for you. I just don't understand since your clothes hamper is so close to you and in the same room. Why when you take your dirty clothes off put them in the hamper right away? Also if they're still clean just hang them back up instead of them getting all wrinkled by lying on the floor all night. Then you wouldn't have to worry about picking up any clothes off the floor period. I really do love all of your videos and can't wait for your garage sale video? Have a great day?

Thank you so much 🦄💜🌟🙏🏻 With my ADHD, I have a lot of energy, throughout the entire day and then I crash, I mean crash like I’m falling asleep within 5 minutes & miserable. I just want to change into my jammies immediately and hop into bed. I know it would just take 10 steps to the hamper or hang back up…but it’s a habit I continue to fail every time I try 🤷‍♀️ I’m not sure why but I’m pretty sure it has to do with the way my mind is wired with my ADHD. So far the morning routine is working for me.
