Great video. A couple of hints for 2005 (and probably later) owners: There is a torx screw in the rotor that needs to be removed and if you notice, there are a pair of bolt holes that will fit M10 X 1.50 x 30 mm bolts that you can screw in to force the rotor off the hub instead of using a sledge hammer.
Great video. My dad accidentally destroyed his front rotors this last week on his 2006 Sierra, and I wasn't sure how to help him or if I had the tools. Your video clearly demonstrated what needs to be done and what a person will need regarding tools. Thank you very very much.
Thank you for the response, I'll definitely continue to go to you for the "know how" as well as get parts from you guys. To others watching, I've. always done my own car repairs, I am also an industrial technician, meaning that just like at the job having the know how and what parts and tools are needed means less time, less money. And these guys deliver on that. Thanks again guys!
Brake Jobs aren't usually done in a parking lot, but if you had to, you would just do the pads and save the rotors for home. Use a jack, it's the same procedure.
Thanks, for a great video. I've looked at many others and never quite felt comfortable in doing my own brakes afterwards, but after seeing this video I think I'm ready to tackle it.
On 2000 Silverado 1500 4.3, I replaced rear brake, caliper, pads, and bled, the new calipers did not indicate Driver or passenger (wish I'd gotten them from you guys), brakes still don't feel like they are gripping. How do I know if the single piston calipers are on right? Pedal goes 1/3 down before brakes start and 3/4 to begin a hard stop. caliper bleeder look close to center, not up or down. Thank you, I really appreciate it. I'm an industrial maintenance technician, I love how descriptive you are in your videos, and how you don't leave out the prep work for each step (surface prep, tools, inspection etc.)
Great video. Thanks, saved me a bunch of money! Sorry, I had already bought my pads but on the next change I’ll need new rotors up front and will remember you.
Add caliper grease to the back side of the pads where they touch the caliper and on the brake clips where the pads rest. This will prevent brake noise.
Now i feel like @ real man doing real man work thanks for that clutch saving video , cause of u i was able to get confidence changing my brake & rotors..

Good video but you forgot to mention one thing: when depressing the caliper with the "C" clamp, make sure you have removed the cap on the master cylinder......otherwise it's NOT gonna happen!
Great video. Years ago I always changed my own brake pads and even had to buy a special allen and then star socket to remove the caliper . I also enjoyed looking at that 67 (I think) GTO convertible in the other bay. Thanks for the info
Do you pump the barkes and take the master cylinder cover off to release any back pressure? I hear it makes compressing the calipers easier? Thanks for answering.
The best thing to do is to leave it closed and go very slow while compressing the piston you don’t want to introduce any air into the system and you risk doing that with the cap open
Thanks for watching, we also carry the brakes shown in this video on our website. Here's a link to them. www.1aauto.com/brake-pad-and-rotor-kit/i/1abfs00101?TH-cam&VideoReply&ATony
+Larry 82 Not sure about whether they're left-hand threads. I don't think that they are, but it's possible that if they've been replaced that's just what the previous owner installed. Try soaking them in some kind of penetrating oil and leaving them to sit for a few hours, then soaking again just before you remove them. That should do the trick. Larry 82 I had the same problem on my 03 Silverado. just push the rubber boot back and put vice grips on the caliper bolt and it should work. you'll have to replace the bolt though. good luck
We carry a ton of window regulators and window motors on our website 1aauto.com ; If you look up your application, if we have a video on how to repair the regulator or window motor for your vehicle it will be shown on our website along with the part. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

I tried knocking my rotor off it would not come off I used to bolts to push it off. Once the bolts knocked it off I realize there was a torques head holding it in. This must be a different set up than what you have on there. But this is a 2006 Chevy Silverado 1500
+Paul Schmadeke Thank you for checking us out. Some Chevrolet applications during manufacturing have a torx bolt to ensure they are straight. This vehicle had it removed on a previous repair. 1aauto.com
Nope. On my 2001 2WD 1500 ext cab 4.8l does not have 19mm caliper bolts…. Blasted things are a T-55 torx drive bit…. So annoyed. Had to borrow friend’s car to run down to auto parts store n buy a whole set. Also has a different bottom control arm than most of the vids too. Most of them have a single bolt bottom ball joint… mine has 4 rivets… still haven’t drilled those out yet. And different front shock bushings than what came in the kit… Redoing my front suspension/steering stuff has been a real bear… my truck is apparently a mutant.
Nathan Moberly Thank you for watching. Opening the cap can help with pushing in the Caliper because it will keep pressure from building up, but as long as you are not opening the bleeder screw and the brakes do not feel spongy there is no need to bleed the lines. Please let us know how the repair comes out! 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
+sarah joseph Thanks for watching! No, you do not need to disconnect the battery to do a front brake job on this vehicle! www.1aauto.com/1A/BrakePadAndRotorKits/Chevy/Silverado1500/1ABFS00101?TH-cam&CTA+Comment&JBITl8VXY
+Robert Gray Yup! Some variations of the Chevy's in this generation (Suburban, Avalanche, Silverado) might have torx bolts on the calipers. The majority have the standard hex bolts (like the one in this video)

Great video. I wish just one time you would show this being done in a parking lot. Most people don't have a lift. Thanks.
Brake Jobs aren't usually done in a parking lot, but if you had to, you would just do the pads and save the rotors for home.
Use a jack, it's the same procedure.
A jack and two stands while sitting on the ground, not much difference.
If you don’t know how to jack up a vehicle with a jack. I would probably not attempt a break job.
Thank for the video guys! Saved me alot of stupid time on mysierra...488,000miles and counting!!

he shouldve
Would you want to open the cap to the brake fluid reservoir while doing that?

what would be the torque for the lug nuts of the wheel?
140 ft lbs
Do I have to open the brake fluid reservoir prior to pushing the brake caliper piston back into place?
No you don't have to. If for some reason your having trouble with the c-clamp you can, but don't take the lid off, just take one end off.
I noticed there was no brake bleeding when forcing the caliper to open. Can this replacement be accomplished without any bleeding?
Can you do a harmonic balancer removal and install for a 95-99 Nissan Maxima 3.0L VQ3000?
Using some MAPP gas to melt the factory lock-tite REALLY helps out on removing the bracket bolts
+Willy Foofoo Thank you for the added tip!
So all of those parts are made by 1aauto or 1aauto purchased them just like we do.... Appreciate the video though.
So when you reset any of the calipers is it not necessary to open the bleeder valve?
It is not a requirement when performing this repair.
Fantastic, nice video.

On my 2004 Chevrolet Silverado the calipers have torx bolts. I'm having trouble getting them off. Are they left hand threads by chance?
+Larry 82 Not sure about whether they're left-hand threads. I don't think that they are, but it's possible that if they've been replaced that's just what the previous owner installed. Once I change everything, I don’t have to bleed the brake? I can just pump it up a couple times and I ll have a hard brake?
I was just thinking the same thing. I always bleed them when I change them.
A breaker bar is key i cringe a little when i see a pipe go on a ratchet..but great video to the point and we'll explained

My service manual says to remove the bleeder screw before compressing the pistons but you don't show that. Is that unnecessary?
Thanks for watching.

Do you sell the t30 bolt that goes in the rotor? My truck is missing it on the driver side and I can’t find one anywhere. Please help!
+Austin Lutz We currently do not carry this particular replacement part. You may be able to get one from your local dealer. 1aauto.com

i was surprised you didnt clean up the bearing to rotor surface
why can't i find any videos for gmc 1500s earlier model then 1992, and whats the difference?
I tried knocking my rotor off it would not come off I used to bolts to push it off. Once the bolts knocked it off I realize there was a torques head holding it in. This must be a different set up than what you have on there. But this is a 2006 Chevy Silverado 1500

odd....My tahoe aka, yukon has Torx bolts, unless i'm looking at the wrong place
Is this process about the same for a 2500hd 2006 gmc Sierra
It should be the same procedure or fairly similar to the repair shown in the video. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
What can I use if I don't have a large c clap?
Do i need to open the cap for the brake fluid, when i reset the pistons?
Or bleed the brake lines or anything?
Nathan Moberly
Thank you for watching. Opening the cap can help with pushing in the Caliper because it will keep pressure from building up, but as long as you are not opening the bleeder screw and the brakes do not feel spongy there is no need to bleed the lines. Please let us know how the repair comes out!

what if the service brake system signal comes on the dashboard after you put everything back on and pump the brake pedal
