    Some additional information. I have a 2002 US spec GV 2.5 4 door. I purchased aftermarket wheels that were supposed to fit but did not. I had to use 30mm spacers and with 235/70R 16 tires there was significant rubbing that required some considerable bashing of the inner fender and trimming of the plastic liners. All is well after said bashing was completed.

    My Grand vitara is 04/2005 model, the last version of that shape. They went to the new shape on 09/2005.
    I just looked into sunrasia rims for our version at Tmart. He also rang around for me, and you just can't get rims for them anymore. As you mentioned, calliper rubbing issues and with the lack of popularity with this version meant discontinuation of any rims being made.
    So, the standard alloy and steel rims are our only option without major steering and brake modifications, I suppose. I'm just going to do what you have done. Paint them black. Mine, as I mentioned in another post, has a 2" lift only, with Wildpeaks 235/16 R 70. Enough for what I do. Mainly beach work.

    • @BrooksiesBackyard
      @BrooksiesBackyard  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, if you get lucky you can find a set of wheels that will fit but they are pretty rare to find. I got a set I found on marketplace but brought them home and they only just rub. I am hoping to be able to modify them to fit. 2 inch lift and 235/70r16 will get you most places, that will be a good little car for you, they love the beach.

    So glad to see so many GV owners chiming in within the past year! There are so few videos posted about these great little off-roaders. I've got a 2001 V6 4x4, totally stock, but I've been thinking about upgrading the tires to deal with muddier conditions. Something a bit knobbier. Sounds like I'm looking for 235/70 16s? (I might not know what Im talking about.😂)

    • @BrooksiesBackyard
      @BrooksiesBackyard  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      235/70r16 are a very good size for stock grand vitara, they can rub a bit on full tuck but nothing to be worried about.

      Also, in your other video you suggested a 3" suspension lift? That's to clear this bigger size tire, correct? And if I ask a mecanic, is that relatively cheap? If I can add more off roading capability for a decent amount of money I'd be open to it. Again, I'm a noob when it comes to this stuff. Thanks in advance!

    • @BrooksiesBackyard
      @BrooksiesBackyard  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@1ring2rule3pigs no, when your flexing off-road and your suspension is fully compressed is what I meant. But it does also rub on your chassis at the front a full lock left and right but again it’s nothing to be concerned about as it doesn’t touch much.

    • @BrooksiesBackyard
      @BrooksiesBackyard  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@1ring2rule3pigs well I can’t remember if I suggested a 2 or 3 inch suspension lift but it is a lot cheaper to do a 2 inch suspension lift then a 3 inch. To do a 3 inch suspension lift on a grand vitara properly you need to get after market lower control arms and everything to correct the suspension geometry correctly. And the suspension lift is just to give it more flex when 4wding on grand vitaras a suspension lift doesn’t help fit bigger tyres, a body lift will help fit bigger tyres though.

    ✨RARE-but-POSSIBLE 17" Rims Fitted to 2004 SQ420:
    After twice seeing this vehicle scoot by me while I was in traffic, I again saw the car in a Bunnings carpark near me. I was about to leave a note for the driver so I could ask where he got his rims from, then as luck would have it (I had earlier put my order in to the Universe that we meet somehow) this dude makes a bee-line for the GV and unlocks it.
    Needless to say I was quick to pull him up and get the lowdown.
    First up: the wheels were 17" Dick Cepek rims (a brand now owned by Micky Thompson). He was running 235/65/R17 Khumo Road Venture AT52's with stock suspension and no lift or body kit. So ... perhaps the 17" is able to encompass the possible 'larger brakes' fitted to Aussie SQ's since those rims were spinning fine.
    He had about the same 15mm mud-flap-to-rear-wheel gap as I have with my 50mm suspension lift and Cooper Discoverer AT3 235/70r/16's. He also noted his speedo was a bit out.
    Next, I found he had bought the vehicle for $6k with the rims already fitted so that was the end of that road of inquiry, but he did share they would rub a bit only when turning, and was otherwise happy with them.
    My enquiries at various wheel shops have led to dead ends with the shop dude left scratching his head, surprised that he couldn't find a product to sell me. I do however suspect the solution will arrive through the 17" rim range rather than the stock 16"s, but I still have to do the research before I follow through with any purchase just yet.
    If any of you find a rim size in the 'Goldilocks' zone, be sure to share your gems with us all.

      Yes and no, when using a tyre size calculator they come up as 30.1s but in real life depending on the brand and tread pattern you will find they can’t be larger than expected.

      @@BrooksiesBackyard wouldn't it be the same with all tyres then? So like a 29 would be a 29.5?

      @@mitchellboreham3598 I have found that is can vary between brands, my 29s are true to what the tyre size calculator says but my “30.1s” are actually 30.5 when measured with a tape measure. I don’t know why but that just has been what I have found. Some tyre manufacturers have there own sizing on there website when you go into there tyres and it can be different to what you find with a tyre size calculator.

      Especially the older ones, 2012 and older...The recently released, 2022 GV is made by Toyota, in India. They signed a partnership deal with Subaru as well. So look for new cars sold between those 3 companies.
      Suzukis are no longer sold in Canada. Used parts are scarce.
