I finally had a weekend with enough free time to rebuild an old machine and install Linux Mint and 73 Linux. Thank you for all the knowledge and effort you bring to this.
FYI, I did try this with a Wo-We and that machine is just a little too sluggish (as even my Pi4 was) for my liking, even with the RAM and M.2 upgrades you suggested. The Wo-We is probably something I'll keep in the truck as a backup for portable operations with that FT-891 ( as you might guess :-) ).

Thanks for this guys. Just finished it and really like the addition to Conky. Plus it helped me to understand a bit about what is under the hood.

This should really become an option in BAP. This is great!

    Installed seamlessly on my Build-a-Pi’s

Extremely well presented! Your how-to is down to an art - congrats.
Funny how everyone thinks differently... when I saw the title of this video, I thought for sure that it was about adding info about SOLAR POWER input performance data to Conky!

Thanks Jason!! Took the basics that you showed in this video and was able to add a separate pic for band conditions as well. I had been running it as a gadget on my laptop so I could see it and now I don't need to. Thanks again.

This has worked OK, but I’m getting a box after each of the variables display on the Conky screen. Everything is saved in utf8 encoding, so I’m at a loss. Any suggestions? Many thanks.

This is a great addition to the desktop. I'm wondering, GridTracker has a window with current conditions that includes HF Conditions, any idea how this detail might be added in Conky? I really like this conditions view, would be nice to get just the small window or some of its detail pulled over. Just a thought... Thanks for your work!!

I am so new to programing and so wanted to have Solar Data to Conky.
First problem, I did not have a bin directory, so I made one then followed the video and next road block was no help file, and just gave up.

I installed 2021-10-30-raspios-bullseye-arm64 on my Pi 4. I used the Mousepad editor to create the fetch-solar-image script. When I executed the script I saw this error message: "/bin/bash^M: bad interpreter: No such file or directory." I googled the error and learned that the script was using the wrong line feed character. I had to change the line ending to UNIX (LF). Apparently the default setting is DOS / Windows (CR LF). The setting is under Document - Line Ending. I hope this helps someone.

Is it possible to get conky to display band conditions similar to the way the QRZ home page does? It displays the solar info along with band predictions. I don't really need the solar info but having the band info on the desktop would be sweet!

You are right Jason In the last line of the script I wrote #v instead of mv solarpich.php ...... 👍👍👍
That is why it does not respond
    Many thanks 😊😊😊

Another nice tool to add to the Pi! Thanks for sharing and showing how to add this to our Pi's. I guess I need to get the latest Raspberry Pi operating system on a microSD card, and get your latest Build-A-Pi. I haven't done a new build since your build that added the capability of updating the Build-A-Pi software. I just did an updating of my software a few days ago, still with my old Buster operating system. I don't seem to have any issues, other than when running WSJT-X after I make a contact, and click the log contact when it pops up, I loose connection with my USB soundcard interface. I have to go to the top, and open up Audio Input and Audio Output to get WSJT-X working again. Do Pi's have system sounds??? It seems like when I click the OK button to log the contact, it puts my radio into transmit for a few seconds. I am running my Pi with my Yaesu FT-757GX using VOX. Juddie - WD8WV

If I remember correctly, it's Lua. This should also be helpful conky.sourceforge.net/variables.html

Is there a way to automatically remove the downloaded solarpich.php files after changing it to the gif? I noticed that there were many copies in the Downloads file with sequential numbers.

    • @KM4ACK
      @KM4ACK  3 ปีที่แล้ว

You can mod the script to delete the file by adding *rm ~/bin/solarpich.php* to the end of the script. This assumes that you put the script in the ~/bin directory.

You may have missed the last line in the script *mv solarpich.php solarpich.gif* which changes the file from php to gif
