- I've read 1,000 books over the past decade.
Here's what I've learned.
Most books are simply one great idea surrounded by 300 pages of fluff.
In other words:
Most books are a complete waste of time.
Let me save you some time:
Here are 12 that are worth re-reading every year.

Thank you very much for posting this list.
Thanks for the breakdown. Does the Harper ai cost much? Also does it do longer videos and what prompt did you use?

I definately check some of these out. I find it is the reflection and integration steps the most challenging. Determining what is really valuable, and then consistently applying it can be challenging in a world with constant demands. Some of my favourite life improvement books are much simpler, like David Allen's "Getting Things done". Just remembering what the priorities are in life, and taking action on what needs to be done next, is so important to making progress.
Well said. Just identify the most important thing... and then do it. :)
Your videos are very useful. Thank you for taking the time to make them.
I think your channel is the only one I am ofthen stopping, going back and taking notes.

Thanks Anthony, I needed to watch this video! I'm going to get hold of 2-3 of those books asap. You are so easy to listen to.
Thank you! Which books are you thinking of snagging?
Meditations and The Power of Now to start with.
I had wanted to read Meditations a long time ago but completely forgot about it. And like you, I thought Eckhart Tolle's book was a bit woo-woo but since you recommend it I'll give it a go.
@@userxpf9ti full disclosure: tolle is very woowoo. Brace yourself. But it's not necessarily a bad woowoo. :)
Nice list, I will surely take my time to read these! Meditations is like a Bible for me. I am usually carrying it in my bag. It helped me a lot to fix my mentality.🙏
That's powerful. Great book.
Really noticed that understanding one book is more important than reading 10. Thank you for the recommendation.
This is the way!
Agree with you

Confession of Leo Tolstoy is for me on the same level as Meditations of Marcus Aurelius. A spiritual eyeopener. Many thanks for the great videos you make, they are very inspiring!
Tolstoy is ALWAYS a good read. Highly recommended.
@@AnthonyVicino
"Meditations" is truly one of the greatest books ever written. Another one is "The Discourses of Epictetus", written at about the same time as Meditations was being put together by the wisest of the Roman Emperors. These two literally changed my life, radically. I had read a lot and certainly learnt much before these two books, but the wisdom in them is just priceless, oye-openning in ways that I never before thought about. Thank you so much for your recomendations, I will certainly buy soon the ones I have not already read. Great videos, and please, keep up the great work you do.
@@rubencardoso635 I'm a big fan of Epictetus and Seneca as well!
War and Peace by Tolstoy is incredible as well-more than anything, reading this herculean book taught me patience, how if you stick long enough to something you put your mind to, you can not only gain a deeper understanding of things, but also be inspired to change the world. I highly recommend it.
Thanks for sharing the list!!
My pleasure. Do you have any books you'd add to the list?
@@AnthonyVicino After reading more than 50 famous books, i have come to realise that there is just one book left to read and apply in life to achieve everything in life is “Bhagwad Gita as it is”.

Some excellent choices there. Especially when compared to most of the others !!
This amazing, the intro to this video is so important.
Thank you for the recommendation. I shouldve followed you sooner since ive been following captain sinbad channel for years. Great start for 2024
Hells yeah! Psyched to have you here.
Thank you for this list, a good reminder of certain books and some new ideas as well. Now, I am now developing my own business. It would be terrific if you (or your followers) recommend your top pick on starting/sustaining/developing business. Thank you!
Hm... a couple books off the top of my head:
1. Traction
2. Story Brand
@@AnthonyVicino Thank you for your swift response. My list only grows :-)
Great list - all classics for sure.
Most of these are ones I also re-read regularly.
The other area I tend to have a few books on is “learning” books - books on how to leverage learning. Which, given I’m a teacher makes sense, but learning is an important life skill 😊
Couldn't agree more. Learning how to learn is one of the highest ROI skills you can acquire because it positively influences everything other skill you try to acquire in life.
do you have any book recommendations? the more the better. Thanks
I've just found your channel and have immediately subscribed. The Power of Now is the only book on this list that I've read, but I've read it many, many times. I will start in on some of the others -- they sound magnificent! I am a great rereader and I'm grateful for this validation, although I read mostly novels.😊
Welcome! Excited to have you here. I'm a big fan of novels as well!
Anthony, thanks for your support.
Anytime!
Liked for Victor Frankl’s “Mans search for Meaning”. Great book, amazing concept of Finding Meaning in suffering.
Such an amazing book. Hard to overstate just how important this book is.
@@AnthonyVicino Absolutely, I read it once and listened to the audio book once. I plan to reread it next year. Over the last couple years I’ve started to read more. But I’ve gotten into a mindset of reading as many books as I can, but now I’ve come to the realization that reading and rereading quality books is more beneficial than reading many different books.
Thinking fast and slow is so dense. It takes me a year to read it every year 😂
Lol, lot of truth in this.
You,'re a very smart guy, Anthony. I appreciate you and your advice.
I really appreciate that. Thank you!

Thank you, Anthony. Found some interesting books in your list that I'll definitely absorb.
Psyched to hear that!
Dude, that was a highly valuable watch. Personally, at the stage that I'm currently in in my life, 'The One Thing' was the one that I 'needed' to know about the most. Wrt. V. Frankl's one, I've always carried the mantra of 'Life doesn't happen to me, Life HAPPENS for me' which I learned from Tony Robbins and Dean Graziosi 2 years ago when I had enrolled in a thing called 'Own Your Future'. Thank you for your content.
All the best!
So damn psyched to hear that!
Great recommendations brother, thank you. Cheers from Sydney
My pleasure! Psyched you enjoyed!
I re-read How to Win Friends and influence People again and it was better the second time.
Nice!
I absolutely love this line. “Reading is simply mental masturbation. It makes you feel productive but if you don’t implement what you learned then you’ve simply wasted your time being busy and not effective” hits so deep and makes me realize a lot of people go to college and do this
Glad that resonated with ya
Thanks. Found your list useful.
Glad it was helpful!
I've read several of these books. For me, the thoughts and guidance in Antifragile and Man's Search for Meaning, I've integrated into my life. Atomic Habits and books by Esther Hicks have done the same as have many others. That's key: Find things in books that you include in your day-to-day life to make it more effective. Any of the books on the list could potentially do that.
Agreed. Integrating what you read into your life is key.
When the pandemic of COVID-19 hit the world books were things that actually opened my window to knowledge. I didn't have time to read during the school year (or I thought I didn't), but this time was one of the most valuable in my life. Since that time I have been reading every day and this list of books will be the next step toward a better understanding of myself and surrounding world
Im psyched to hear you've fallen in love with reading!
Thanks Anthony for this Nice and useful video!

Awesome! I love to hear that.
Great list. Read half, love Taleb. Will try the rest. Thank you.
Thank you! Psyched you enjoyed.
Thanks for sharing your list, and for caring enough to reply to every comment. I am an avid reader and life-long learner. It's my best billionaire habit. I love my books, but it never occurred to me to [re]read my favorite books every year. Here are a few that would make the list for me: The Art of Living by Epictetus, Quantum Success by Sandra Anne Taylor, and Make it Big by Frank McKinney. For daily reading, I never miss Bill Bonner (for 25 years now). Two more (can't resist): The Ultimate Sales Machine by Chet Holmes and 80/20 Sales and Marketing by Perry Marshall. Time to get hyper focused.
Heck yeah, there are some killer books in here! Love it!
Thank you!!
You're welcome!
I am currently reading Meditations for the 1st time while simultaneously completing daily writing in "The Daily Stoic" journal (wih book too). While Ive read a couple books you have suggested, the overall message I take forward is to continue focusing on the thinhs I can control - my thoughts, behaviors, and actions. I look forward to tackling each book!
That's wonderful. I'm re-reading Meditations as we speak, :)
This is a great list. After my high school best friend of 32 years died at the end of last year, I made a decision to spend even more time reading than I have so far. Today, I finished my 70th book for the year. Re-reading books is one of the most important habits of reading deeply.
You asked for 3 lessons from your video and here they are:
• On the strength of your video, there's a couple of books I'm going to give a second chance: Almanack and Power of Now.
• I'm going to put a boot up my backside and FINALLY get around to reading Influence.
• The book by Austin Kleon sounds like just the tonic I need to give myself permission to release my entrepreneurial art into the world.
Thanks for the great content and keep it coming.
Start with that book from Austin. Give yourself permission to share your work with the world!
"Letting Go" by David R. Hawkins. Wisdom on every page.
I'll have to check that out.
Great vid. one comment might be missing and that goes for all books: 'Knowing and not doing, is the same as not knowing"... Cheers 😉
Good point!
Study books, don't read books.

Enjoyed this Thanks for the good recommendations,

Yes, the "Now" is where everything happens...unless the now is overridden by memory (past) and/or fear (future). My personal chalenge is to focus so exclusively on the now that my subconscious default programs change to my "now" paradigm.
It's a tough reprograming, but well worth the struggle.
I don't know if this is possible but I think it's worth trying. Please let me know where you're at with this in the future. Great idea. Go for it!
@@wendym2544 - It is scientifically backed by studies that show how the brain changes in response to major lifestyle/thought inputs. Time magazine had a cover story...many others give confirmation on 'neural plasticity'. It gave me hope to know that this is indeed possible...and I have been at this for some time now. I can tell you that my progress has been considerable, yet incomplete. This is the toughest challenge I have faced. Every bit of positive change is worth the struggle.
@wendym2544 - I have come to understand and value every word of your comment to me. FYI, my dysfunctions were so all encompassing that overwhelm during progress has hampered the progress. I have, like you, made great and lasting changes to my once 'off course' mindset. Meditations is like my manuscript to me
I've read Power of Now before, but it's surely something I need to read again.
A book I've enjoyed reading yearly over the past two decades is 'Candide' by Voltaire. Short story, but always reminds me to stay grounded and to "keep watering my garden". Reading this book helped me in understanding a few lessons in life. Love it!
Great list. I'm ooking forward to reading all of the others.
Nice! Sounds like we're cut from a very similar cloth.
This was a much more impressive and helpful list than I expected - thanks!
Really psyched to hear that!
Thank you for the recommendations! Is there any specific order to read these books?
Hm... that's a great question.
I think a lot depends on where you might be in the journey, but a good rough order would be:
1. Meditations
2. Man's Search for Meaning
3. The Power of Now
4. The Great Mental Models
5. The One Thing
6. The Almanack of Naval Ravikant
7. Influence
8. Thinking Fast and Slow
9. Fooled by Randomness
10. Antifragile
11. Show Your Work
12. The Most Important Thing
Thanks Anthony for the great video. You referenced one book that you indicated it would take maybe 30 minutes to read. What are your techniques for accomplishing that, it may be in one of your other videos which I have not seen but what do you recommend. I’m a slow reader and my eyes are getting less comfortable to be able to read. I do audiobooks where I can crank up the speed and bookmark sections. I miss reading though and open to techniques for reading faster.
Well, that book is a quick read mainly because it's really short and has lots of pictures.
I'm actually not a terribly fast reader, and I think it's counterproductive to try learning to read faster. Just read at whatever read is right for you.
Focus on comprehension, not completion.
Everything else will fall into place.
Reading is not just enough. take the action! Put your newfound knowledge to use. I read for a long time but action made my life change in no time (generally and mostly financially)
That's my two cents on this
This is the way.
This is the way!
liked for Taleb and Kahneman. I've given away several copies of Taleb's books through the years, and Randomness is one of my favourite books :)
Nice! I should probably give away some copies of Taleb. I love his stuff so damn much.
My top 3 takeaways to implement more! (nice video by the way)
1:"Understanding only becomes useful when we adjust our behaviors and actions accordingly."
2:Use writing as a form of reflection on what I read, and connecting the dots of foresight
3:Quality over quantity approach, taking the best books, reintegrating their lessons and reflecting deeper upon them
Powerful takeaways. Love it.
I’m really enthralled by Hemingway’s novels right now for whatever reason. His writing is just so simple and brisk and it clicks with me extremely well. I should read more informative books but classic novels. Re what I’ve been enjoying lately.
HIs writing is SO good
@@AnthonyVicino Really really is. It’s minimalist writing, just enough to get the point across. I’m currently reading A Farwell to Arms and it’s fantastic,
Thank you. Do you recommend reading in the order presented or another order?
You can read them in any order!
Good list!!
Thanks!
Totally true. I just reread Calvin and Hobbes and I am getting so much more after step 3.

You are so welcome
Just found your channel, those are really great books. Keep doing videos about books.
Welcome aboard!
"The One Thing" is an excellent book. I've written down the names of the other books and am planning how to read at least a few of them.
Nce! I hope they bring you value.
That long head at 0:42 is nooooiiiiceeee. Liked and subbed for that
Ha! Never skip arm day, right?
I love to read, especially about things that I can learn from/implement into my life. That being said I do not understand Meditations by Marcus Aurelius, it seemed extremely vague
It is very high level. I think a lot depends on the translation you read. In my mind, there is one that stands heads and shoulders above the rest (Gregory Hayes, I think). It's the book with a black cover and red crow on front.
Thank you for your inspiring list.
For me, the following books would definitely belong on such a list:
- Seneca (as a Stoic like Marcus Aurelius): "Moral Letters to Lucilius" and "On the Happy Life"
- Epictetus (Stoic): Discourses
- Montaigne: "Essays"
If I had to choose I would even prefer Seneca and Epictetus to Marcus Aurelius.
Both Seneca and Epictetus are solid options.
I find Marcus' writing to be a bit more poetic and mentally sticky.
You defo get a like for this vid. Nice collection of books
Huzzah! Thank you!
The list is impressive. The 48 modern rules of money is also a gem
Hm... not sure i've seen that one. Who wrot it?
We most know to read better indeed... I myself read three times the same book...the first is just about reading to know what this is all about, the second is when I take my time and taking notes, the third is when I actually implement what I understood.
I love it. Great process.
Great list! Some I’ve read, most I have not. What book(s) would you add? Me, I’d add 15 Commitments of Conscious Leadership.
Never heard of that one. Will have to ccheck it out.
It is one thing to read a lot of books. It is quite another to take the time to apply the lessons in the book and making them habits!!!!!!!
100%
❤❤❤ so interesting I love reading
Me too!
Great recommendations. The only thing that didn't feel good was displaying the question mark on the video instead of revealing the book straight away.
Just trying to build intrigue to keep people watching a bit longer. :)
@@AnthonyVicino I understand that. But from my experience as a viewer, having watched tons of book recommendations it feels better, when you first reveal the book, then you talk about the book and elaborate on that.
I'm just sharing my experience. Nevertheless your channel is awesome 😎, you're awesome 😎 and I love your content!
I believe in triggering positive emotions though:)
I'm going to read as many as I can manage. I agree though, and I'm an active reader. One book often leads to other books or at least research. For example, reading Andrew Marr's History of the World led me to read Gilgamesh. Reading a Grisham novel led me to read MacDonald's Bullet for Cinderella. Sometimes I just research an idea, like when reading Asimov's many books, I often find myself researching topics regarding the galaxy and the Universe. And so on. Yep, read deep and reap the rewards.
Nothing wrong with bouncing between ideas as you follow your curiosities. :)
i read over 300 books the last year but get what your saying about reading better, Finishing the Dragon ball series didn't really get me anywhere but I can at least say to people i read over 300 books in a year now.
What was your favorite book>
1. Read more (of the same) books - Quality as opposed to quantity. 2. Take notes - Read and then reflect. 3. Hit the like and subscribe button!
Great summary
I have started reading lately and i would definitely recommend the following books:
Meditation: Marcus Aurelius (same as you)
Atomic Habites: James Clear
The Way Of The Superior Man: David Deida
...and many more, but I truly think these 3 books are mind-bending and can heavily influence your life.
What is your opinion on the books I mentioned, have you read them?
FIrst video I watched, keep up the good work, you got yourself a new sub.
Love Atomic Habits. Haven't read the one by Deida.
There are actually 3 volumes of the Great Mental Models. Shane also put out a new book as well named Clear Thinking. You might also like Super Thinking.
Oh interesting. I've read the first two, but didnt know Shane had released a third.
I have Clear Thinking sitting on the shelf, but haven't gotten to it yet. Is it good?
Super Thinking looks cool. Never heard of that one. WIll have to check it out.
I've watched a lot of videos with advice like this and just don't seem to move forward with their suggestions. This was a straight-forward approach to a simple idea and I liked that the books were largely some I'd never heard of before. I will make note of this list and begin to check them out. The advice to reflect and integrate is excellent and connects with what I espouse as a teacher. Time to take my own medicine.
Glad it was helpful!
