My freind, your saying something EXTREMELY important in regards to the changing of Thailand. I've been there so many times on vacation. I'm planning on retiring there. Thankyou for ur insight, it really is invaluable, because nobody is talking about the changes in Thailand like you are.
Great video as usual. Always to the point and professional. Keep up the great work!😃 Your videos are invaluable the newbies and those seeking more information about life in Thailand.
Phuket was a tourist mecca full of russians, chinese & europeans many years before you moved there 4 years ago. There are still plenty of nice quieter parts of phuket to live away from the main beach centers.
100%. But it doesn’t feel good they admit they don’t have the financial resources to comfortably live in Phuket. Surat Thani is a tier 4 city in Thailand 😂
I've lived on Phuket for the past 3 decades, and it's still by far the most liveable province in Thailand. Not all the island is bars and tourists. Your 4 years on the island is nowhere near enough time to explore the quieter areas - I'm still discovering fantastic locations.
I have thought a lot about Surat Thani, its right between phuket and Samui if you want more tourist stuff and then there is the airport. I am currently living in Khon Kaen. I like Samui, but it has gotten very expense the last few years. Nice channel I just found it.
You had me at "Digital Gonads" 555 couldn't stop laughing. I like Isan and the provinces of Chanthaburi & Rayong but can't decide between mountains or beaches. Great video.
Phuket has always been like this it’s only for tourists…Im 54 and have a Thai wife of 17 years now…. We have a beautiful house near Udon Thani that we built…love it…Go check out Udon Thani and it’s provinces… I love BKK but now it’s just full of Hash Shops and i hate it…. Its horrible… I now fly to BKK and sleep at the airport hotels and fly to Udon Thani the next morning.. I won’t even go in there.. I’m glad you posted this because i thought it was just me…..😊
Hash shops are all around the tourist / red light districts. What you're saying is you don't like big cities anymore. There is always something to see and do in BKK. In small Thai cities everything closes at dark. Big difference in lifestyle. Older you get the more quiet you want.
The friendliness and receptiveness of the women has to be a factor on any list regarding places single American men should live! That’s one of the chief reasons why we go overseas in the first place! That can’t be left off the list!

Great channel! Happy to come across this video. I've been living in Pattaya area for about a year now and looking for more quiet and less tourists. Definitely have to check out this town.
Thank you. If you are looking for fewer tourists, more quiet, more Thai culture, less traffic, and easy airport access and flights to Bangkok, then you will like Surat Thani.
Try out Pratanmak in Pattaya, much nearer Bangkok, great environment, incredible selection of restaurants etc quiet and near Koh Samet and Koh Chang plus a 20 mins ferry ride to Koh Larn! Then there’s Wongamat or Na Jomtein or Bang Saray

Thanks for the share! I’m looking at retiring in Thailand & this place seems closest . I do love BKK because I love big cities , but would rather make home somewhere less touristy
I fully understand. The greed for tourism money of the Thai government/politicians is amazing. They just trying to compensate the GDP by the ever shrinking manufacture and foreign investments.
Surat Thani looks great. Safety (not crime) and the hot weather are reasons that Thailand is not ideal for me. For me low safety in Thailand is about the Moto bikes running you over or driving on the sidewalks. I have owned a place in Medellin for 18 years and have farms in the Jungle of Colombia too and never once felt preyed upon.
I feel you on the noise complaint! I visited India once and I thought the constant honking was a secret morse code language 😂 Surat Thani sounds like a peaceful dream.
In this video, I reflect on whether it's time to leave Phuket after nearly four years and embrace a quieter, more authentic Thai town. I explore Surat Thani, looking at rental prices and talking to expats to determine if it could be my next home. I also share my thoughts on what makes a town great for expats in Thailand, considering factors like noise levels, convenience, and safety. Could Surat Thani could be my next destination?
Love this video!! And thank you for discussing air quality. TH-camr’s don’t seem to mention it. Have you found open markets that sell low cost organic produce? Many S.E.Asian countries use dangerous pesticides. I always check government websites to check about pesticide use and whether they allow GMO’s.

His apartment in Indiana is about the same price as that new condo in Surat Thani? That's actually pretty incredible and it shows how expensive 20,000 baht for that condo is. I would guess 20,000 baht is around the median income in the area.
I wouldn't say that you could find the "real Thailand" on Phuket 4 years ago, it hasn't been there for 20 years. Why not move to Isan, far away from the sea, away from all the crowds of tourists, if you don't like the overpopulation on Phuket and the increase in prices that comes with it? Phuket is just full of Russians who don't want to go to war. It is questionable whether they will ever be able to return to Russia. I don't know how Russia punishes potential conscientious objectors. I think Koh Samui will be the next island to be “invaded”. I wouldn't describe SuratThani as a small livable city either. This small town has around 125,000 inhabitants *laughs*. He’s not just talking about more livable or which place has nicer conveniences. He wants to experience the Thai culture. The culture of the locals and he’s having trouble finding that in Phuket.
Back in the pandemic, GOD forbid that happens again, it was really cheap for you to be in Phuket, so just admit you no longer have the funds to enjoy Phuket with it's diversity and life happenings, and this is coming from a Thai that lives here... in other words no need to put a place down in order for you have an excuse to move .
Have you considered your the problem? You come to a tourist destination and stay way too long, 4 years?…Now you want to do the same in another part of Thailand 😂…maybe you’re the migrant now ruining another country? ….
I think you are right to move out of Phuket. Thai people often say that Phuket is under the influence of foreign capitalism. The culture and social conditions are getting worse. Chinese, Indian, Russian capitalism dominates Phuket and corruption of Thai officials. Phuket may become like Rome, Paris, a tourist city as you feel, not suitable for living. The price of goods, food and accommodation is much more expensive. Thai people travel less because everything is expensive. Because that is the price of foreign tourists. If you want to experience Thai culture, you have to stay in a small city such as Nan, Chiang Rai, Surat Thani, Phang Nga, Khon Kaen, Ubon Ratchathani. Or in the winter of Thailand, you should stay in the North such as Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai, Mae Hong Son (November-February) and in the summer, you should stay in the South during (March-June). In the rainy season, you may go to the North again or the East, Trat, Chanthaburi, Chonburi because it will be the Green Season and avoid the storms well because we cannot predict anything with global warming. God bless you. ❤🇹🇭🙏🏻
Is $2,000 usd a month good enough for a single person living comfortably in Phuket with no interest in drugs, alcohol, clubs and bars and definitely not into women?
For some it is too little, for others it is enough and for others it is too much. We (a couple) live in Hua Hin with USD 1700, but do not pay house rent or transport costs as we have our own pool villa and our own car.
I think he just doesn’t like being around Russians and Indians I’ll find out myself next year hopefully what the situation is like as I haven’t been there for over 20 years everything changes no popular destination stays untouched
I guess for many residents the arrival of new tourists, mostly families from India, Russia and China, is a very welcome change. Hopefully it will slow down the nightlife and sex industry
Lil bro didn’t realize he was in the wrong market cause Phuket is a young man’s city. Burned through half his savings, now he wants to go somewhere cheaper 😂

70% of Thais in Phuket are of Chinese descent. There has always been Chinese and Thai culture all over Phuket. Your reasoning for leaving is flawed.
Lots of Indian men partake in sex tourism too especially in Pattaya.
@@stegura83 Yes, sex sells, anyone who thinks otherwise is living behind the moon...😂
Digital gonad!! Too funny but with all due respect, aren’t you one as well?
You forgot to look at your self in the mirror, also a foreigner taking up space.
Soooo Funny , Only an American can complain of tourists in a foreign land.. The irony is delicious ..
Lil bro didn’t realize he was in the wrong market cause Phuket is a young man’s city. Burned through half his savings, now he wants to go somewhere cheaper 😂
Why the need to write something negative ?
@@patrickshoniker3268 you must be new here. welcome to the internet

Phuket is a tourist hell hole. So what's the "answer"? Oh, yeah! Tell the world about another place and turn IT into the next one. Bright move.
Phuket isn't a tourist trap hell hike but Patong is
Do you know this trick? Think of a number any number, then add ____ then X by 2 etc?
