I started off buying punch and dip bait, but when the place that I shopped at closed I had to order it online. Shipping was horrendous, so I looked into making my own. I bought 5 gallon pails full of scrap cheese, half gallon jugs of fish oil and collected cattails for thickening. After doing pretty good with that recipe I read that Anise oil attracted catfish well, so I incorporated a small amount of that in my bait as well and my bites increased by double! I even did a little experiment and dipped a bare treble hook in just Anise oil and I caught catfish with it! Not often and not a lot, but enough to convince me that Anise oil could be that "secret ingredient" the bait makers talk about! On a side note, the only difference between dip and punch bait, is the thickening! Dip bait doesn't use it, so you need to use those ringed worms or other hook devices made specifically for dip bait.
I made my own for decades, and you are correct, it is a process. So i started buying it about 7 y years ago. Initially i really like cj's, but in my opinion it has become very inconsistent with quality. My last bucket was nothing more than blobs of fiber, very little cheese. I should have sent it back, but doctored it up and used it. Sureshot is a very good bait also, especially in current due to the chicken fat in it. However, keep a pair of sidecutters handy, you will need to clip off the chicken fat from your hook often. I'm looking to try another brand, if i can't find the quality I'm looking for, i just may have to start making it again. I make it 5 gallons at a time. From someone who has used cheesebait for over 40 years now, you are absolutely correct. There ain't no better bait for them tasty channels, my favorite!!
I use a lot of sure shot punch bait from Benny Roberts in Decatur, TX!!! Awesome bait and very affordable!! Chad said something about his bait some years back and I just drive there and pick it up out of the milking house!!
At Fork, there are times, only small channels are caught with punch bait. I switched to raw unflavored chicken and caught bigger channels where only small ones were caught.
Like your one subscriber said CJ has been inconsistent lately which is sad because I know him personally and a real pleasant man to get to know on a personal level. My back up punch bait is Danny Kings. I've limited out catching above average channel cat. Great video btw
@@Catfishedge yeah I get that.. but instead of the punch bait having the holding ingredient the hooks I use have the holding material.. in my experience their both equal
I use the same bait you use, but when I pull the hook out, most of it stays in the bucket.....no matter what the temp is, and no matter what the consistency. But, if I'm trying to get it OFF the hook, when I'm done, it won't come off....lol. It is absolutely deadly for channels though, and you'll never miss a bite with your secret catfish rig.

Have you tried Danny Kings punch bait? I've had real good success using it
I used it way back when Bob Fincher was making it in Gillette Tx. Bob was the king of punch baits

Hands down for us is the Wicked Sticky punch baits. We buy 4 gallons at a time. The regular sticky bait and the sewer baits both work great.
I use my gut. It's so thick you can't see them on your graph.
