The absolute best stink bait is Triple S made right there in Iowa. I've tried MANY of them and always come back to Triple S. Used to be called Sonny's when the old man owned the business. You do have to use tubes to bait up properly, and the tube needs to be dry. I've got it all down to a science. I'll go through 3 gallons in 3 years. $100 for 3 gallons. The restrictions on cut bait are pretty tight here too, so I use the ole stink bait instead. You can't use any fish for cut bait unless you catch the fish from the body of water you want to fish. There are very few gills in the rivers around here. I do use cut up drum once in a while if I can get one easily while I fish for cats on other rods. Most of the cats I catch on Triple S are 1-3 #'s. I do catch my fair share of 4-6 #'ers and have caught several up to 15#'s on it. I release all of the cats over 4#'s generally. I prefer the little ones for eating.
I like triple s myself I have good success adding cattails,cotton and cornstarch. Stays well on a bare treble #6 under a slip float. Bobber sinks super fast lol🎣
I have a buddy who swore by secret 7 so one day me and him went catfishing with it and we had some pretty good luck with it. I never used stink bait up until then and we caught plenty of channel cats most of them being good eater sized which is what we were after. I probably wouldn’t use it if I was going after big fish but if I’m camping and just looking for something to fry I’d definitely use it again.
I had never tried stink bait until last week . I decided to try premo magic bait because cheaper than buying a dozen worms . I stayed fishing in the same area and rebaited my hook every 20 minutes in the snake river . In less than a hour , I was catching catfish after catfish in the snake .

CJ's punch bait is similar to Danny Kings. I have had great success with both. They are fine for catching Channel cats. Rarely catch blues. Never an op. Wooden paint stirrers are great for punching the hooks in.

I caught the most on crawdad, but when I caught a 6-10 pound catfish it seemed to always be on the monster bluegill. But that could have just been coincidence. Get you a big jug when you order it because the little ones go to fast. The best place I’ve found to buy it from is academy sporting goods.
I live in iowa city and catfish the reservoirs and iowa river in town ive never tried punch bait. Im a chicken guy but ive heard great things about cjs

I've caught alot of channels on Danny Kings punch bait before. Man that sh*t stinks so bad it would knock a buzzard off a sh*t wagon. It's not allowed in my boat but I got a couple spots I fish from the bank that it comes in handy
Danny King stink bait is supposed to be the cat's meow of stink bait. It's kind of expensive $$$ imo. I've found all the commercial catfish baits I've tried are pretty effective for smaller cat's up to about 5lbs. Occasionally you'll catch fish up to 10lbs on them, but not very often. For the BIG cat's fresh cut bait is the way to go. FYI I've found that hatchery stocked trout seem to really like Catfish Charlie blood bait. I can only think it resembles the smell of those stinky fish pellets they feed them at the fish hatchery...? Just thoughts....

Try an old rag or cloth tie in bait and poke holes one for the eye and slide it over the treble fill with bait and tie my own concoction

Why would you want to leave the river when it gets dark? that’s when catfish are most active in searching for food.
