The cooking spray makes sense. It contains vegetable lecithin which is amphiphilic (emulsifier). It is really nasty to wash off. Dish soap and hot-hot water barely cut it. You needn't soak/marinate the bait with it. Just spray it on the bait out over the water being very careful to avoid getting it on the boat. If you do it'll be like ArmorAll. It will bind with the bait slime and scent causing a prolonged oily release in the water. This would make the bait scent more concentrated for a longer time. Thanks for the video.

We’ve used PAM on a variety of applications, but never thought about fishing with it. We’ve used it as a release agent for concrete form work and an anti stick agent to minimize wet grass clippings sticking to the bottom side of mower decks.
Going to start buying PAM a case at a time now

Try soaking your bait (rag, sponge, etc.) in straight canola oil. Let the bait (rag, sponge, etc.) soak overnight. I use 1" wide strips by 3" long of $1 store sponges. TIP: Red sponge seems to work best, mimics the color of blood I guess and with the oil scent, it's crazy but works. Had skipjack cut bait sitting not more than 5 feet from the canola soaked sponge, every single bite was on the canola oil sponge.
Took my niece and nephew out fishing every weekend and they always catch fish using the same bait while I don't catch anything. After seeing this I might just try it.

First time to the channel. Glad I watched this video. I catfish the Snake River and will use this information.
We used to use ivory soap bars cut into little squares. Side benefit is always having something to wash your hands with.
I used cheap panty hose to make a bait bag for chicken livers. Make them small enough to fit the hook. *they help chum the water a little too.
My favorite bait of all time are preserved leaches. Great for bass.

Maybe next time try using squares of heavy duty sponge and a little dip bucket of pam, so it won't be so messy. Eliminate any fishy smell by only using pam. I don't catfish much anymore, but if I did I would definitely try Pam.

Good video guys thank you. One test I would have liked to see is the dish rag with Pam and regular untreated cut bait to see which would be better. Plain old cut bait or a rag with Pam.

I have to say that at about 29:10 in the video, when you dropped the fishing line/hook on the deck, I was just waiting for you to step on it with your bare foot, but if you watch you will see that it appears that your fishing buddy stepped on the hook with his shoe and saved your foot! I’d try a new slice of sponge along the shank of the hook then soak it in the pan. It should hold the Pam and still give way on the bite.

@@catfishkarma1 yes but I thought of that before I saw your rags. Sponge would float a little but a small split shot would allow it to come back up off the bottom and help for less snags. I’m wondering what other species I could try this on?

I've been fishing mostly saltwater for about 75 years. But now located in Central Texas instead of the coast. Used some crazy baits. I like catfish so I'll have to try this.
BTW I breufly worked for WD-40 Co. in the 70's, it definitly does NOT contain any fish oil. Mostly perroleum based. Duh.🤪

Hell why not, I've been using WD40 for years as fish formula on top water lures, divers and rubber worms.
That's two of us! I use earthworm for for cats around here. It still works. Plus it never hurts to have a can of wd in your tackle box anyway.
Microwave catfish is delicious. Little lemon and butter and tony c spice and you have heavenly sweet fish.

I'm thinking along Gerald Johnson's lines. I think it's the oily content of PAM glorifying the blood/slime/guts scent in the water. If this is correct? 50/50 minhaden oil/PAM ought to be the best "bait gravy" ever.

I have heard this before but never tried. WD40 is illegal to use in Arkansas was told specifically from a now Retired Game and Fish officer that is a friend of mine.Looks to me the Pam worked. Keep up the great videos. Been missing you Bro.

The fish normally feel some thickness when they bite down on a bait. So, use your imagination on bait thickness, piece of a Kotex would be great!

I've caught catfish on "Life Boy Bar Hand Soap", about a 3/4 inch square piece, on a treble hook. Put soap in microwave oven for a few seconds. Use gloves to form teardrop shape on your pre-made leader setup. Then when you catch them, they are already cleaned. LOL LOl Lol lol lol lol 🤣 🤣 😂 😂🤓 No really.... true story !

How do you get the cooking spray to stay on the hook?
Attach a 2" wide strip of a dish rag and then spray it down with Pam. Be careful not to spray your boat!

I'm going to try that Pam spray tomorrow when I go fishing and then I'll write back in your comments if I catch anything and maybe send you a video or not I'm not sure how to do that yet but I will definitely leave a comment if it works or doesn't for me I'm a smaller River with smaller catfish but there's always big ones out there no matter where you're at so hopefully I can catch one thank you for the tip that was an awesome video and those were awesome catfish you guys got. If anyone is concerned about polluting the water with a few squirts of WD, I can tell you that there's entire cars in the bottom of nearly every lake.
You need to use a natural sponge and fill it full.

The real test is soak pieces of sponge in the spray and use that as bait then if you catch fish on it then that would tell you that it works

I would never leave a hook in the fish that’s wrong. Remove hook and put mountian dew on area or kill fish and eat it.
