    Tusind tak! Excellent advice to change the resistor. I heard changing the thermistot would help but this was even cheaper and simpler way to by-pass the errors of the lazy production line of these " top-end " transducers.

    I kinda wish I could give you a few hundred likes on this so more folks could see it. Worked perfectly for me, on an old Autohelm ST 50 Tridata. Thanks for a great video and explanation.

    Thank you very much, Tino. I found 18 kilo ohms to be best: the real temperature of the water was then halfway in the adjustment range.

    Hi Tino, I have the same problem with the temperature, showing 46degC all the time and can adjust upto 76 degC on the calibration. What resistor should I use to get to the 0-30 degC ? Is the resistor you have chosen a 1W, 10kOhm ? See that there are several types of 10kOhm restistors from 1-5 W? Will it matter which one to buy? Great video and tip, by the way.

    Hi Tino, tnx for the infos, with your advice I was able to get my transducer in normal range but now the value doesn’t fluctuate over temperature changes, it is always between 23,5 and 24,5 C, while actual sea temp is between 16 and 27 C. Do you think I have to replace my thermistor?

    Instead of cutting the cable open close to the sensor, where it can also be exposed to water. I suggest to install the 10 kOhm resistor on the brown cable behind the instrument.

    Hej

    Hi! Great videos! I have the same problem here. Will it be the same there in the cable you set the resistor, og does it have to be as close to the tansducer as possible?

    Thanks! My i40 speed/temperature transducer read about 20C high. The i40 does not have the temp calibrations, so I'll need to fine select a resistance value. I plan to add the resistor pigtail at the unit plugs for the brown and white wire.

    Har et spørsmål om temperatur måler på displayer viser det ingen ting. Men kalibreringen viser 10 +- fra 41,2 C til 51,2 C kan jeg sett inn en 10kOhm motstand?

    • @twiper

      Hvis den viser ingenting vil jeg tro du endten ikke har forbindelse til transduceren eller at selve temperatur måleren i transduceren er kaput.

    Nice to see how you fixed your temperature sensor. But how did you find out that this could be a solution to your problem?

    • @twiper
      @twiper  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the temperature sensor is working now but don't know if the speed sensor is working in the water. I know the speed sensor was working the day I bought the boat. - how I found the solution regarding the temp sensor was because I was searching the web for a solution and found a person there had fitted a new termistor to his airmar transducer. My plan was to buy a new termistor but I saw on the electronic site there was a 2% "calibration" resistor with the termistor and then I found out it was pretty normal to calibrate termistors in many different things so why not just try to calibrate my own termistor. My temp sensor worked fine but it did not show the right number. I think the reason for the calibration function in the raymarine unit is because they know that the termistor will loose it's restistance over time.

    Dear Tino, what a great idea. My temperature sensor was indicating higher degrees since many years. Now I soldered 10 kohm as you did. However with the max calibration upwards, tridata now indicates around 3 C below the correct temperature. Probably, I have to use different value resistor. Could you help me for the resistor value which fits to my case?

    I have a similar problem with my ultrasonic SC4500 Airmar transducer connected to a Raymarine Tridata. In my case, instead of temperature rising and staying steady in high values,, it fluctuates in big gaps going from i.e. 16C to 27C or 32C randomly. I am told be Airmar that speed pulses are interfering with temperature signals. They recommended me to install a capacitor in the junction box but it didn´t work. The transducer is only 6 months old so it cannot be a problem coming from the thermistor. Can you think of a solution for this particular case? I would appreciate your support. Thank you, Alberto

    • @twiper
      @twiper  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Assume you have a old Raymarine ST60 tridata and the Airmar SC4500 transducer assembled with a converter from seatalk to NMEA 2000. Has the problem been there from the start or has it appeared over time? According to what I can see the SC4500 is a unit from 2009-2011 and when I'm searching the web I can see the ultrasonic SC4500 unit has a history with some errors and it is also removed from Airmar´s assortment, so a solution will be to switch to the new UST800 transducer or DST800 (the normal "cheap" one).The second option is to find the problem in the system, think it's possible to connect a computer to the NMEA system and isolate the faulty part, the "black box" there is connected to the transducer can be the problem or the transducer it self. If there is a fault in the electronics inside the transducer I think it is "live with it or replace it" - I have seen the jumping temperature problem before somewhere and if I find a direct solution I'll get back to you :)

    How did you come up with 10 k ohms ?.. you were able to calibrate at one tempr, but how does it read over it's full tempr range?

    • @twiper
      @twiper  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I found out that I needed a 10K when I first thought the thermistor was bad and then wanted to order a new one. By the new thermistor at the website there was a info point where I saw it was possible to calibrate the thermistor with a resister and I then calculated how much resistance I needed to hit the right number on the raymarine instrument with the old thermistor. But as you saw in the video it's possible to ajust the instrument a bit. I'm pretty sure the temp is right at low and hot temperatures, but I haven't checked it yet.

  • @michaelthomsen8771
    @michaelthomsen8771 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ok, so now it shows correct temperature on 6-7 degC, but does it also show correct temperature around 20-30 degC? Is it really only an offset problem?

    • @twiper
      @twiper  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes it is only a offset problem, it shows the right temperature here in the summer 2019. To be sure I can measure the temp with a handheld unit and check the instrument in the boat. Think I'll make a video about it so people can see the fix is working as it must do.

    Is it always a 10 k ohm resistor that will do the job?
    Btw, thx for a great video and regards from Sweden 🇸🇪

    • @twiper
      @twiper  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No the 10 K ohm is only taking a certain % of the amount there is showed in the display, if you add more resistance the "base" temperature number will be lower.

    Som vanligt väldigt bra film! Vi ska snart köpa vår första båt och jag lär mig massor av dina filmer! Ska du göra något mer med motorn snart? Den båt vi hoppas köpa till helgen har en gammal Volvo Penta 2003 så den lär behöva lite omtanke :) Ursäkta svenskan :)

    • @twiper
      @twiper  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jeg mangler at tjekke dyser på min motor, men venter dog lidt med det. - vedr. køb af båd og Volvo Penta 2003 ville jeg nok skifte olie og filter, rense kølesystem, skifte impeller, stille ventiler, samt rense udstødnings albuen så I er sikker på at den får ordentlig smøring samt køling.

    • @twiper
      @twiper  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Toppakningen skulle helst ikke være utæt men hvis den er våd omkring pakningen er det nok bedst at skifte den. Dyserne skal justeres hvert 5. år for optimal drift og forbrænding, problemet er bare at det koster ca. 120 US Dollars pr. dyse. - Nej jeg har ikke en Patreon konto, tænker jeg venter til jeg får min næste båd.

    Yes, it did work. I managed to obtain the correct temperature with 5600 Kilo Ohm resistor. However while sealing the cables, I think I did something wrong! I lost the speed and temperature started to indicate -4.5 degrees C:(
