I think this is a great example of a ethnic/plot change for a character in media. Theres context behind him being black and just overall being a different character in ways from the comic. The whole "people only like my black when its the suit, not my skin" is something i never expected and thought it was a very well done to drive a point home.

@djolo5140literally anyone else in The Seven would have gotten one shot by Homelander. Maeve had plot armor and let’s be honest, it didn’t really seem like Homelander was trying to kill her in that fight.
Black Noir has the best healing factor of the group and he is absolutely the most skilled. While the rest of them are basically just celebrities, Black Noir is actually a trained killer and he is highly effective. And despite having pretty severe brain damage, he is shown to be pretty intelligent. And Black Noir was the only one in the Seven who wasn’t scared of Homelander. When Homelander asked Noir if he knew that Homelander had a father, Noir didn’t hesitate to answer, despite it being the answer Homelander didn’t want to hear.

However, they have constantly mentioned how he has an incredible healing factor in the show. So I wonder if maybe that original Black Noir was Noir no longer and they replaced it with a clone of home lander or a character with that of equal abilities whom they programmed from childhood to wear that mask and become the next Black Noir whom is powerful enough to keep Homelander in check. Maybe that other Black Noir was there to kind of be equal to Soldier Boy. Maybe they keep a Black Noir always powerful enough to keep in check their most powerful Sup???

Because it kept showing the footage but seemed to avoid talking about it, also i think she even implied that in the show he could still be a clone of homelander at one point. Now that would be a great twist, and I would agree with you except ... we see part of his face when Maeve lifts his mask to force-feed him an Almond Joy. In that shot, you can see burn scars that look pretty close to the chemical burns we see on his face in the Mallory flashback. That makes the additional burns inflicted by the terrorist he beheaded in season 2 a grim easter egg joke set up as a forward reference and paid off via a flashback. A meta joke would be that it was foreshadowing. I'm sure whoever wrote that is pretty proud of themselves for pulling that off, understandably so.
Still I think you and most of us don't trust what they're showing us entirely.

@@BinahAtala so the thing about a good twist is, it can't just be unexpected, it has to be that in retrospect there were clues and setup to support it that were artfully hidden. If Black Noir died, I guess the support we would have for it is that he died from the tree nut allergy, allowing his replacement by a Homelander clone. Now, the issue there is while that would bring it closer in line with the comics, the character's arc can't be the same: he hasn't been there alongside HL unable to kill him, he didn't commit atrocities pretending to be HL, and he hasn't proven himself any sort of unstable deviant. I guess they could sell he's been insane or mentally unstable in isolation and he could be the reason why Mr. Edgar isn't at all threatened by HL (I'm aware the unflappability is sourced from the source's Stillwell character for a different reason). It'd be a deft piece of misdirection, you're correct. I guess we'll see what they have in store for us.

It would be impossible now to use Black Noir's comic story, given they've shown parts of his face and body. Clearly not a Homelander clone. Only way they could reverse this would be to have Black Noir come back, and it be a secret that the original Noir died from his tree nut allergy and has been replaced with a clone of Homelander. Could be a plan by Stan Edgar. Homelander thinks he got rid of him, but really Edgar is still pulling the strings.

In the show the real black noir could have died after the peanut allergy incident and they put a homelander clone in Black noirs suit. And it could very well be the child that soldier boy was referring to who knows just the thought...

Finding out who's under the mask takes a lot away from the character. A lot of the mystique is gone.

I think it enhances the mystery of the character quite a bit honestly. Most people that have looked into the series probably expect him to be this clone that’s a contingency plan. Showing he isn’t a clone of homelander let’s us question what his motivations are, where they are gonna take his character, as well as his entire backstory. Opens up many more directions to take the character

If you're talking about live action Black Noir, then wouldn't you mean hearing him talk takes away the mystique because part of his character is being silent? We saw his face in the flashback, sure, but we still don't know who that person is or where he came from (his origin). We just know he looks like a Black male.

Actually it adds more. It moves away from the comic so it adds in even more mystique to the character.

I really love the different versions of Black Noir in the show compared to the comics.

Gotta be honest, I think they show runners ruined the character of Black Noir, at least as compared to the comic book origins/Cannon.
He was a bit of a side character in the Comics, sure, but he absolutely had some of the biggest and most impact full scenes...
    Especially the "big reveal".
There is literally nothing interesting or important about that character now (in the TV Show). Black Noir has no "big reveal" now. He's just... there.
    Boring.

I couldn’t disagree more tbh. This big reveal in the comics was a great way to show that Homelanders downfall into madness was something that he was manipulated into and that he could have been the ideal superhero that he wanted to be in the first place. The show has taken Homelanders character a very different direction choosing to dive into dissecting Homelanders character and motivations/why he’s the way he is. If that were all ripped away at the end of the series and we find out the reveal that was in the comics it would be a huge cheat to what we’ve been shown so far. Plus it gives opportunity to make black noir his own character with his own motivations, backstory, and goals. For all we know he still could be a contingency plan against Homelander he’s probably the most powerful supe aside from homelander that we’ve seen so I don’t see why that couldn’t still be the case.

@@burrito_fighter6699 Because as things stand now (of course they could still end up changing everything) his backstory is incredibly boring. He was just a random, narcissistic supe who got disfigured? All right. It's something. But it's got nothing on the plot twist form the comics. That was fucking amazing. It also kills a lot of the mystery about him. I really wish they hadn't show that flashback scene. Oh well, we'll see where they go from here.

Black Noir is more like Slade than Batman.
