@@KierraLovesHipsters I think it was to make us hate Homelander even more because he really doesn't care about anyone but himself and questionably even Ryan. He ultimately only cares about himself though.
When I first saw that scene where Buster Beaver etc began talking to Black Noir, I (a grown-ass man) almost broke down crying like a little child. Before I began therapy (three months in a psychiatric clinic, was very lucky to have a good therapist) one of my major coping mechanisms with my self-hatred and lack of being able to deal with the outside world (was diagnosed with ADHD at the clinic, am currently pretty sure I have low-support needs autism but have not been diagnosed yet, so may be completely off, was suggested that it might be Fetal Alcohol Syndrome I do not know) was to mentally "converse" with characters I liked. I never believed them to be real, and never thought that they were actually talking to me, but when discussing that with my therapist we came to a sort of conclusion that they could be sides of my personality that I wanted to be more prevalent within myself, having been given archetypal characteristics based off of fictional characters or historical figures who I admired. Seeing Buster Beaver tell Black Noir what bravery was reminded me of the times I would force myself to interact with my abusive alchoholic mother and was only able to do so if I conjured this mental idea of an entire company of doughboys (nickname for United States infantrymen known predominantly for it's usage during the First World War) propping me up and telling me that I could "do this", as silly as that sounds. (If you are interested in discussing escapism as a coping mechanism in further detail I highly recommend Jack Stauber's "Opal" as I showed it to my then therapist and it really helped her understand what I was going through)
I always interpreted Noir seeing Buster Beaver as a child being him having imaginary friends, like a lot of kids do. Like the brief look at him we saw in Nicaragua showed him to be very lucid and rational, it's hard to believe he was seeing cartoon animals at the time. But a combination of emotional trauma and brain damage caused him to bring back his childhood imaginary friends as a coping mechanism.
Black Noir is easily one of the most interesting characters in this series. At first he's made to be this threatening killer, but towards the end its shown he has the mind of a child...in what he sees, in how he writes, in how he reacts to Homelander...I'd love to see more of his backstop and I'm hoping he's really not dead. He's survived MUCH worse tbh...
I'm in this boat too. Is he *DEAD* Dead, or is he just SEVERELY messed up and is going to need surgery and months to recover? Ashley wouldn't throw away a billion dollar piece of product unless it's actually done for!
This is a very interesting analysis, Georgia. The way I see it, Black Noir's fatal flaw is his submissiveness, and inability to make major decisions without the input of Homelander or Stan Edgar. As soon as Homelander realises that Black Noir knew about Soldier Boy being his father, he kills him for his apparent disloyalty.
He has brain damage and is mentally reverted back to himself at an earlier age. Therefore he is looking for his own father figure. So it makes sense that he wishes to take orders as kids look to parental figures to help guide them. It adds to one of the themes this season of parental longing.
He was made submissive by Stan forcing him to wear the helmet, by SB, so I guess with Homelander being more powerful and a bully too, it would be safer to go with him than against him.
Keep in mind I'm not saying you're wrong persay. Just a different angle is all. In more crass circles we call it "house ni**a syndrome." That might be shocking lol, but the visual might help explain where I'm coming from.
I think it’s also significant that when he returns to Homelander and gets a hug from him, Black Noir sees red hearts bubbling up which is a fascinating look into how he perceives the relationship between himself and Homelander, someone he knows is a violent psychopath. Whether it’s because of experience or being able to relate to another powerful supe or because he feels responsible for him after being the reason for him being raised without a father, Noir clearly has a close bond with Homelander as even he regretted “needing” to kill Noir but he couldn’t suffer what he saw as that great a betrayal.
Black Noir went from some side character lap dog of Vaught, to one of the most endearing and memorable characters in the show, all this without any voice or face to act with, Nathan Mitchell is probly one of the most talented actors out there.
Noir is probably my favorite character in the show. From his first appearance something told me that there was something special about this guy, from his mannerisms, actions, demeanor, and general mindset. Little did I realize how freaking outstanding he would be in season 3. I hope he isn’t dead I really want to see him in more seasons. 🖤
Even with all the powers he had, I'll say the biggest superpower he had was the positive self-talk he can have with himself (with those imaginary friends). It's really hard to not fall victim to self induced negativity in tough situations.
I remember being laid up in the hospital with TBI, and seeing cartoon characters from my childhood walking around my room. Given that Noir got his head partially caved in by Soldier Boy, that tracks.
I also love the deeper perception Noir got by how he imagines each animal to be cast in the play: Soldier boy's the bald eagle, fine and dandy because USA USA, but it's also a vicious animal has no mercy. Noir himself is obviously the black sheep, both because of his skin color and subsequent mistreatment he received. TNTwins are horses because they are independent and instead of associating that with elegance etc it means arrogant pricks that they are. Also possible a carriage metaphor that is their title they have to carry together and why not any other animal. That agent lady with no powers (shoot forgot her name) is an old goat too stubborn die or get things in her way Lastly my favorite, his boss was a literal weasel meaning everything he does is a scheme and certainly even abusing Noir at that moment.

That's the genius of the writing on the boys that they're able to make you feel sympathy for a character like black noir. He was also a cold-blooded killer. But the way it sounds he dealt with abuse even before he was in Payback.
Yesterday a thought came into my mind and here I am to suggest it. You should definitely do a video on Azula from Avatar The Last Airbender. It's an old show but it's a well known one loved by everyone and has some of the best characters in animation. The things she does, the way she sees herself as a monster (like her mother does) but how she's still pretty stable for most of the time really blows my mind. One has to have calm mind to bend lightning, which is why her brother zuko fails doing it because he has anger issues. But she has perfect control over her element, in fact way too perfect. Not even talking about the literal mental breakdown at the end, which was very surprising to see in a lighthearted show like that, it felt very realistic. Or the time she tried to flirt with a guy but failed in the most absurd way. Not something you would see every day, lol. She's definitely not your typical villain, unlike her father. I think it would be interesting to see your take on Azula's psychology, as I've seen many other videos about it in the past. And also, great vid as always!
OH MY GOD THE OPENING WAS BRILLIANT. love your video outfits so much! Edit: " courage is the willingness to be afraid, but act anyway" was painted on the side of my theater in high school. Part of it is what we all do. He is psyching himself up to do what he needs. Sometimes that is playing conversations in your head, sometimes that is talking to yourself, and in Noir's case sometimes it is animated creatures as an avatar of your issues. Thou
I actually think it is Black Noir's sub consciousness as the characters explained how he dealt with a bully at school and how he dealt with that traumatic event and what happened in the past with Solider Boy's team and how to cope with his PTSD also what he had to do in the next.
This kind of reminds me of Leon "the Professional" having like no worldly possessions other then the clothes on his back and a house plant. That he cares a lot about. Great movie that still holds up . Don't judge a book by its cover unless you are on the wrong end of their sniper rifle barrel where understanding is pointless.

I can’t thank you enough for this love your black noir cosplay too it is amazing black noir is one of the most sympathetic characters in the boys series. You should do a video on Queen Maeve next.
The way he would draw Buster beaver,I’m sure Homelander could see this and wonder about it. He could see what he did in his down time just looking through the wall. It makes me feel better knowing that he wasn’t some zombie just waiting for the next mission. I feel it’s a fantasy world.
I absolutely love the amount of effort in each and every video from this channel !! I truly hope and believe that this channel will prosper to be great. In my opinion for Noir, I feel as if he was originally a Deadpool type of character that was since muted from Solider boy and hence was forced to be into the batman type of character. and that making his character that much more sad
I haven't watched the show at all, so I may be stating the obvious, but: I find it interesting that in the presentation of the memory, he is the black sheep character. Now, this does fit thematically with his whole black attire thing, but we can't just ignore that he sees himself as the black sheep
😂 love your Black Noir costume. Black Noir's flashback were great. Really made me care and feel for the character and how Soldier Boy treated him. Great analysis. 👏👏
The Buster Beaver line about bravery is ripped straight out of Green Lantern. A green lanterns power comes from will power and they are weakened by fear. When a ring finds a new Green Lantern it isn't looking for someone who can't fear. They are looking for people with the ability to overcome great fear.
You may have covered this in another video I didn't see, but my take on the conversation between Black Noir and Homelander before Homelander kills Noir was that Homelander was initially trying to talk Noir out of wanting to kill Soldier Boy. When he realized he couldn't do that, he came up with Noir "betraying him" by not telling him that Soldier Boy was his dad as his justification to kill Noir. I think that if Homelander could have convinced Noir to back down on wanting to kill Soldier Boy then he would have let him live. It was important for Homelander to come up with an excuse to make having to kill Noir be Noir's fault and not his own. I just wanted to know if you think that's accurate or if Homelander was always going to kill Noir.
These cartoon/animated characters are due to secondary psychosis due to permanent traumatic brain injury with Noir's background of Complex PTSD and coping mechanism to protect his inner child that was under persistant trauma and aim of obeying and pleasing everyone due to fears of physical, verbal, emotional/mental abuse. Thanks for the vid! So happy that you covered Black Noir! I appreciate what you said about the animated characters, as the piggy (who reminds me a lot of Porky the Pig) had a stutter which made him more sympathetic to Black Noir's developed speech impediment. He was very emotionally and physically abused by Soldier Boy. His fear, even as he was fully masked and still, was so palpable when he realized that Soldier Boy was returning, I'm not at all surprised he had ripped out his own tracker in his arm. It's sad that Black Noir invented empathetic friends because he felt he had none, but in a way, I'm happy he had friends, so to speak. He trusted the narcissistic Homelander too much. Black Noir died on his own terms, so I'll give him that.
Black Noir is my favourite superhero on The Boys. There is a rumour that they are bringing him back for season 4. “Don’t worry Earving, we are so proud of you.”
OMGosh you're doing "The Boys"! F***ing awesome, Loved your analysis on Arcane. helped crystalize awareness of degrees of behavior while I feel you also make the transitioning zeitgeist to accepting mental health issues and addressing them, more palatable to a wider and younger audience. AND Stranger things? fear/phobia issues, right on. I mean, I know bugs freak out some people but the feather-light caress of an accidentally mis-directed traveling bug on my arm/leg/head, doesnt bother me.
I love your cosplay, though the little bird on your barrette took it to the next level! LOVE! Terrific analysis as well, as always. Keep up the surprises!
With how V now has been shown to effect refular pwople id say its a mix of Noirs psychosis and his imaginary friends working in tandem his mind when his emotions get up. (The compound V + high dumpage of brain chemicals and the damage of the neural pathways and how they healed and reconnected. The sensations he felt that weren't real + brain damage and extra connected neural pathways that boosts his already hyper imagination + compound V = a coping mechanism on overdrive
I don't know if you've done it already (just discovered this channel) But I think you'd have a great time checking out What Remains of Edith Finch. Lots of really good examples. One of which was definitely a kind of psychosis. One of the people disassociated at work. Therapist didn't pick it up as a bad thing. And he sunk into the fantasy more and more. Until he ended up killing himself because he thought real life was the fantasy and vice versa
Like others have said, he leaves real food out for his imaginary friends and doesn't notice that the previous meals are rotting in the bowl. That alone is a sign that something is wrong upstairs. Though is there any reason why it can't be both? That he has a vivid imagination that gets fired up by his psychosis?
I don't wanna say this and it shouldn't be said but this is the comments sooooo . . . I hate that this made me cry. Even though it was for a short second, it still did.😮💨
His “psychosis” being friendly cartoons is hilarious. Even normal dudes have persecutors dialogue in their head, sometimes violent. It’s clearly an exaggerated mental illness, non specified. Psychosis is when you lose touch of reality, but that definition to a psychotic person destroys them. I haven’t gone into psychosis for years, but it’s basically just pure distilled fear. The feeling of “I gotta get the FUCK out of here or I’m going to die 100%” It’s all just real, there’s no reasoning with what you’re processing. That helicopter up there is watching and listening to you, people can read your mind make sure to think happy thoughts, etc. I’m doing everything I possibly can to not go into psychosis again. It causes actual brain damage. If it happens again I really don’t think I can handle it.
I am still disapointed black noir didn't get a rematch against solider boy, I was so excited for that fight and now I feel they rian johnsoned us I just hope his story is not done yet and maybe we will see that fight in future seasons, probably not
Almost looks like a gaggle of tulpas or headmates he's created for himself and he's superimposed his fantasy/wonderland on reality in that restaurant. Almost like an AR overlay, only it's his imagination, instead of technology. I'm going to guess they probably didn't exist before the head injury but I'm not 100% sure.
What doesn’t sit well with me about the “psychology behind Noir’s situation” is that encouraging oneself to face fears and do what we need to do and facing certain death for the sake of it (Noir’s case) are two very different things. There’s nothing brave in doing something that will lead to loss of life. If anything, Noir shouldn’t have gone back to Vought to face Soldier Boy. Bad decision.
There are people who have done studies on it but very small ones that I know of. Universities are often searching for people with rare conditions to look at

@@GeorgiaDow And I am VERY happy that YOU are happy! (Yours is a day worth making!)
@@GeorgiaDow Oh! And I am VERY certain that you would relate to Naru, the hero in PREY!
This scene actually made me understand Black Noir a lot better
Black Noir died on his own terms, so I'll give him that.
well said and he died facing his fear which I can respect as well
Black Noir is my favourite superhero on The Boys. There is a rumour that they are bringing him back for season 4.
“Don’t worry Earving, we are so proud of you.”
aww
thank you for the video Georgia and as always - your cosplay was excellent! ^^
Glad you enjoyed it! thanks Jan
You should do a video about memory disorders with FF7. When Cloud distorted his memory of his past.
I don’t think he chose to be mute. His whole face was mutilated and he even had parts of his brain pulled out
OMGosh you're doing "The Boys"!
Yes I am happy you are enjoying it and I hope you like the other videos also
I love your cosplay, though the little bird on your barrette took it to the next level! LOVE! Terrific analysis as well, as always. Keep up the surprises!
YAY thank you = )
I hope you get a chance to work through the characters of The Expanse! It's great Sci fi and the cast is incredible!
We all need those positive reinforcement buddies in our life ❤
With how V now has been shown to effect refular pwople id say its a mix of Noirs psychosis and his imaginary friends working in tandem his mind when his emotions get up. (The compound V + high dumpage of brain chemicals and the damage of the neural pathways and how they healed and reconnected. The sensations he felt that weren't real + brain damage and extra connected neural pathways that boosts his already hyper imagination + compound V = a coping mechanism on overdrive
You should analyze Jim/James Moriarty (BBCs Sherlock). He is a pretty interesting character
That was an amazing analysis. An amazing analysis that I could absolutely not pay attention to, because the bird in your hair kept staring at me
That brought me too much joy
bro black noir is the saddest death in history 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Something of note as well is the cold baked beans directly from the can is a shout out to Rorschach from Watchmen
nice catch !
Really good point of view Georgia… I thought Amazon was being cheap by doing the animation segment but it makes sense now how you broke it down
thank you very much
Animation is hella expensive
Omfg idc if it's a year late, the cosplay is hilarious and amazing 😂
I appreciate your interesting analysis in this video. Thanks for sharing and blessings on your day 👍🏻
Thank you! You too!
Because in the flash back before it happened he seemed pretty normal
I almost cried when I was shown that scene again but YESS, preach!
This show makes so many characters that I hate and then feel so sorry for. This was the most I felt sorry for out of all the characters probably.
Your costume!!!! The effort is insane.
I don't know if you've done it already (just discovered this channel)
But I think you'd have a great time checking out What Remains of Edith Finch.
Lots of really good examples. One of which was definitely a kind of psychosis.
One of the people disassociated at work. Therapist didn't pick it up as a bad thing. And he sunk into the fantasy more and more. Until he ended up killing himself because he thought real life was the fantasy and vice versa
Georgia,
If you want something that adds to the story of Black Noir I would suggest that you watch episode 8 of The Boys Presents: Diabolical
Like others have said, he leaves real food out for his imaginary friends and doesn't notice that the previous meals are rotting in the bowl. That alone is a sign that something is wrong upstairs. Though is there any reason why it can't be both? That he has a vivid imagination that gets fired up by his psychosis?
I never laughed out loud so hard.
The title is gold
YAY happy you enjoyed it. Its one of my favs also
Thanks for these analysises
I love the costume so much.
that scene between both Homelamder and Black Noir still gets me
Твои видео-топ )
Смотрю тебя через переводчик
I think Noir does actually see all his emotional support cartoon creatures after the brain injury
I don't wanna say this and it shouldn't be said but this is the comments sooooo . . . I hate that this made me cry. Even though it was for a short second, it still did.😮💨
aw that clip cemented my love for noir
The brain injury I believe is what really did it... however, black noir had issues going back all the way to his childhood.
Nice analysis
I wish you'd kept the helmet on. It's awesome! Also it'll help you learn from Black Noirs mistake.
HAHA I thought of it but I kept fogging up as I spoke
4:37 "We got you through that erectio...Hard rock cafe massacre" Lmao
First video I see from you account and your wearing the helmet and goggles and I’m like “does she normally look like this lol?”
That is so funny omg !! what an impression it must have made.;.. lol well look what im wearing in turning red
12:09 I fail to see what this has to do with Disney princesses
Disney villain maybe?
His “psychosis” being friendly cartoons is hilarious. Even normal dudes have persecutors dialogue in their head, sometimes violent.
It’s clearly an exaggerated mental illness, non specified.
Psychosis is when you lose touch of reality, but that definition to a psychotic person destroys them.
I haven’t gone into psychosis for years, but it’s basically just pure distilled fear. The feeling of “I gotta get the FUCK out of here or I’m going to die 100%”
It’s all just real, there’s no reasoning with what you’re processing. That helicopter up there is watching and listening to you, people can read your mind make sure to think happy thoughts, etc.
I’m doing everything I possibly can to not go into psychosis again. It causes actual brain damage. If it happens again I really don’t think I can handle it.
Oh yeah and my iq has progressively gone down since first break. P sad man. Imagine what that’s like 😂
THE COMMITMENT, hahahah, props to you
hehehehehe
0:18 - Yes, yes it is
lol
Loved the helmet get up.
hehe thanks
Thank you.
I am still disapointed black noir didn't get a rematch against solider boy, I was so excited for that fight and now I feel they rian johnsoned us
I just hope his story is not done yet and maybe we will see that fight in future seasons, probably not
Honestly was really disappointed we didn't get a rematch between the two
That attire was insane hahahahahaha
THANKS
I'm just glad that Black Noir is canonically going to Heaven.
Almost looks like a gaggle of tulpas or headmates he's created for himself and he's superimposed his fantasy/wonderland on reality in that restaurant. Almost like an AR overlay, only it's his imagination, instead of technology. I'm going to guess they probably didn't exist before the head injury but I'm not 100% sure.
hahaha i love this, i said the exact same thing - he’s my favourite disney princess!
great comment
You look like you could be the future version of Courtney Miller of Smosh. It's uncanny. Great video series, by the way!
Can you do one of the boys next. I know you don't like Hughie but what about MM, Frenchie, or Kimiko?
Try not forget that this could be a side effect of compound V
that is a point that I didnt think of
That costume 😂❤❤
Hahahaha!!! I love it. Best costume yet! 😁
YAY so happy you enjoyed it
I'm of the camp that he's alive. I didn't see an omage of him at the end of the season
My favourite character
Kinda thought Black Noir was remimaging his old friends as Disney creatures the same way he remimagined Payback
As someone with Aphantsia, I am curious if or how an aphant would experience psychosis. Has there been any research or study on that?
There are people who have done studies on it but very small ones that I know of. Universities are often searching for people with rare conditions to look at
