You need a heat pen/wood burner, you can press ends on metal tool and round corners. You can also use the heated exacto blade to cut the boning, it is like butter.
Whether I do an overbust that has actual cups, I always build my top out of a bra pattern that uses an underwire. Then I build the top exactly as I would a bra and my boning goes up to the underwire.
So I am working on a wide collar for my jacket that needs to stand up. The fabric is thick and heavy. It’s a medium-heavyweight faux leather. Would the sprung steel work well for this? I tried plastic boning and my collar was droopy
Thank you so much for this. I am currently trying to choose bonning for my wedding dress and this was super informative and educational. Do you recomend the steel spiral bonning for a backless wedding dress? Thank you
Oh good question! Honestly I would stick with plastic unless you plan on repurposing the dress and wearing it many more times. Otherwise the cost of steel boning for a dress that will likely be used once wouldn't be worth it to me. You can get really great structure from plastic. Congrats on your wedding!
Hey thank you so much for your informative video. I hope you can help me? Im small busted and love to dance so I plan to add sprial steel my wedding dress im making! But i have no idea what width size to choose?xoxoxo
Hey! Thanks so much for watching. This is a difficult question to answer because there are different factors involved like the cut and fit of the garment and the weight of the fabric. It doesn't sound like you need a ton of support so I would start with whatever size you think will not be too big and boney looking under the fabric and go from there. For sure do a mock-up first not just to test bones but also to get the fit right. It won't matter what bones you use if the garment is too big anywhere. I hope that helps ❤️
I'm making a cosplay. The lacing is in the back and the front is closed. I'm busty and so what would be good to support myself? It's not for waist synching. It would be one solid piece from just below my collar bone down to just below my waist.
Oh fun! You would be surprised how much support you'll get just by adding a few extra boning channels. But if you are really wanting a solid support, you could always put a one piece wooden busk in the front. Don't forget to drill holes and sew a ribbon through the busk and the fabric once it's installed or it will wriggle up while you wear it. Good luck!
It would depend on the weight of the bust you are keeping up. You could probably stick with a lighter option for a size 4. And maybe a medium weight on the sides to keep the dress from slouching. Hard to say without really seeing it.
Oh good question. I'm afraid without getting my hands on one made for that purpose, it would be hard to say. You might want to do some sample squares of a foot or so to see how they feel.
So the german boning is thicker than the others? I want to make corsets to support my back and my huge bust, and also cinch my my tummy a little. Do you think I can get away with the fake whale bone?
Sorry for the late reply! I think you'll be fine with the fake whalebone. Just remember that the structure also comes from the fabric choices. They are a team that works together.
Don't put your corset in the washing machine? Well fack... My first one that i bought for 50 euro's ish i washed in a washing machineXD. I don't have it anymore but this is good to know for when i finnaly make my own:p

I also have this question…

All of these have benefits. Which one would work for a size 4 prom dress inbuilt (like Nigerian) corset?

@@StephanieRubletz I appreciate your response. Thank you
I need to make a pretty stiff corset to use as a back brace. Should I use boning or cording? And if cording, what thickness and type of cording?
Oh good question. I'm afraid without getting my hands on one made for that purpose, it would be hard to say. You might want to do some sample squares of a foot or so to see how they feel.
@@StephanieRubletz ok. I'll do that. Thanks.
