Hi! I always try to do that with the iron to flatten the boning but it doesn't work as well as yours. Could add a link of the boning you use, please. Or a photo can work too
I am new to sewing and I was wondering how you're supposed to sew boning in and other videos I've watched it looks like they're sewing directly on the boning but I was afraid that would break or bend my needle so does all boning have an edge that you can sew on
I am using an industrial machine so I would only ew on the boning if it’s a sew-on boning. The plastic boning may not be a good idea on a general machine.
I'm quite curious about that facing detail you did! I don't think I've ever seen it done like a bias binding. Is that just for an ease of construction?
Sierra Larars good eye! I create the neckline that way so a drawstring can be added to the neckline to adjust the width of neckline. Most patterns from the 18th century have that added so the wearer can adjust easily.
I haven't used boning in a dress yet so I found it very interesting to see how it's done. I presume the boning only went into the back section of the bodice. I was wondering why you didn't put any boning into the front sections.
Sew Sew good thinking... I actually did put the boning in the side seams and the front closure, I just didn’t show it here. For the front, I made a Chanel in the seams because it wasn’t a pressed open like the back seams.
Hello please how do I finish the lower part of a top that has boning where I will attach a skirt so that it won't hurt around the waist when wearing it.
Good question! I will have to do a more detailed tutorial on that in the future. :) Thank you for speaking up, I always appreciate it when my followers tell me what they want to know!
In sewing the satin dress, my vintage machine leaked oil on it. I’ll have to wash it but it still needs the boning added. Maybe I’ll hand wash that part now then add the boning. I was going to wash it when finished but i see you don’t recommend that. A brand new machine is in my future!
BALOGUN OLUWAPAMILERIN good question! The boning I purchase does come with a casing but sometimes I use it and sometimes I don’t. I depends on the nature of the project
I’m working on a 7 yr. old girls dress that has boning in the bodice. It’s needs to altered down about 4” too wide and tapered down to 4 1/2”, it is not strapless. How can fix the dress to look like it hasn’t been altered?
TheLuxxen I would highly recommend hand washing garments with boning. In fact, I would almost take them to the dry cleaner. I wouldn’t want the boning to become distorted.
Thank you so much for this video! I'm thinking of adding boning to a 1940s gown, but she was most likely handmade so no lining. Would you say it's possible to add boning, or would I have to add lining?
Hoopskirts are so often at thrift stores. If not alone as a petticoat you can cut it from a gown. I've found hoops skirts, crinoline petticoats, even tape farthingales.
Hi, thank you for posting the demo. One question: is plastic boning can stand machine machine? I really want to apply plastic boning to my clothes and have them easy to care at home..i don't want to pay extra bill just to prevent the boning from detoriating bodice shell. Cheers..
muty bint mansur are you wanting to machine wash the boning? If so I would highly recommend washing on delicate cold water. You may have to re-shape to boning from it being thrown around in the wash though.
It is AMAZING to me all the methods for stitching boning. I appreciate seeing how you do yours. Thank you!
Wow; I loved your presentation. Nothing more beauriful than watching a master at work. Thank you for sharing. Learned a whole bunch.
Loved the tip on clipping a little boning out and under turning the cotton.
Thank you so much this tutorial. It was the easiet one to understand and to follow the instructions
Thank you for a great tutorial. Do you have a tutorial on making a stiff petticoat to go under a silk dress perhaps?
How do you make boning over the curve of your chest in a bodice with boning at the front?
Maybe use a heat gun? Or move it while it's still warm?
Maybe try curving the boning and then steaming it with the iron to keep it in place.
Very interesting. Love your tutorial 💜🇦🇺
Sandra French thank you ❤️
awesome demo, would you mind sharing a video making a circle skirt from bed sheets with elastic for one size fits most.
Wow! Excellent video. Thank you so much
Very nice tutorial. 👍
Do you have a video on how you were making this bodice? I like how you finished it without using an edging or bias tape
This was incredibly helpful! Thank you!
Did you make a separate sleeve for the boning before you attached it to the seam and how do you make that sleeve for the boning ?
Good question! This boning actually came with a sleeve on the role so I didn’t make it, I just came with it.
Very educative........ Thanks.
But what are the reasons for boning
Hi! I always try to do that with the iron to flatten the boning but it doesn't work as well as yours. Could add a link of the boning you use, please. Or a photo can work too
Yes absolutely! This is an example of what I like to use: www.ebay.com/itm/334225887026?hash=item4dd16a4f32:g:DocAAOSwWVthmH-3

Thanks for you tutorial. Do you sew the boning on the front bust panel as well.

@@thetailorette ahh! I'd completely forgotten that was a thing! I take it the cord is tied at Centre Back to avoid the tails being seen?
Sierra Larars Actually it ties in the front and is tucked in the front neckline to hide it. Hard to visualized but it’s not visible at all 🙂
Hi there
Its my first time sewing with boning in your tutorial when you add the bodice to the lining what side is facing the inside
Somaya Price when sewing the bodice to the lining, rights sides are facing each other with the lining in the inside. Hope that answers your question 🙂
@@thetailorette thank you

Would you recommend boning in the bodice for wedding dressses
absolutely! Depending the look you are going for. But most dresses have the boning in them

Actually I want to learn about about boning ,,why we need it ,,and what its use in bustier or corset ,,?
Good suggestion! I will remember that for my future videos. :)
Hello! How do I make a boning case or does it come with one?
BALOGUN OLUWAPAMILERIN good question! The boning I purchase does come with a casing but sometimes I use it and sometimes I don’t. I depends on the nature of the project

It looks like I can learn this .

Sorry before all cause English its not my language, so ill hope yoy understand me. How do you make the previous seam line not show when bouning?. 🌹

Hello. Can you use this boning for a hoopskirt?
_xXSimoXz_ hello! I would not recommend this boning for a hoopskirt. However for a project like that I would recommend using metal boning.
The Tailorette thanks. But metal boning is so expensive 😂 it’s really hard to find where I live, in Italy

Can i fix boning on a lining coset like that?
I’m trying to FIND plastic boning. Even flat metal boning is sooo hard for me to find locally and even online!
I buy all of my boning off of eBay!
@@thetailorette really?? Maybe it’s just not popping up of metal boning in Google shopping. 🤔
That’s odd 🤔 I would go straight to eBay and type in “steel boning”. “Flat metal boning” might not show up as well.
Do you buy the sleeve for boning or did you make it yourself
Do you need a different presser foot for boning??
I did t use a different presser foot but I could see where a cording foot might work pretty well!
Thank you
I love it 🤗🌹
