Seeing Ayula is action reminds me of my friend's Bear deck. It's literally Bears with Equips, so he exercises his right to bear arms, and his right to arm bears.
And once again, a dinky Ayula tribal deck goes unthreatened for a million turns and runs over higher powered decks with the last bit of gas in the tank. I kinda love that commander now.
Connor Harris That’s exactly why I hate it. No one else seems to realize that by ignoring the Bears, you’re letting the Bear Queen get bigger and scarier and harder to deal with. That’s my favourite thing to do in commander tbh. My Boros Tiajac(?) deck always gets underestimated and ends up over performing because of it. I’m glad to see commanders like Ayula who aren’t giant powerhouses themselves but are huge threats due to their perceived weakness.
@@voxkine9385 Exactly. This is not because of Ayula specifically, this is a general thing and the main reason I love multiplayer Commander - the player with a lower power deck and/or the one who had a bad opening hand naturally becomes a low-priority target, so they have an opportunity to catch up and stay in the game, even win in the end. Great game though, despite Stephen not knowing how Spawn of Ulamog works (he put in a token at ETB, and didn't when his Reassembling Skeleton died). Didn't end up mattering though in the end.

I really love the way Yawgmoth works, though I already have a mono-black deck I'm happy with. I may build a Mardu aristocrats style deck with a -1/-1 counter theme though as an excuse to use him. Maybe Mathas or Marchesa at the helm.
LOL I was thinking the same thing. I haven’t played a game of Commander with The First Sliver yet that lasted that long. He has WAY too many non-Slivers in the deck. Bearded Jeremy would have built it to kill...kill...kill!!!
Love your Games guys! Keep it going please # No-Team. May the best draw win!. :: Cough Cough :: "Blue is the Best Colour." BtW, I'm a 5 color Sliver deck so I have to be Bias. Go Jeremy!!
Not how cascade really works but ok, you need to finish the first cascade trigger and put cards on the bottom and then start the second cascade and shuffle everything together if you cant cascade a second time
Haven’t watched yet, but def surprised Justin is playing the bear deck while Stephen gets Yawgmoth. Unsurprised Jon got Urza so he can try to combo and/or be a Spike. Jeremy getting The First Sliver is par for the course. Really hope Jon doesn’t mess up this game with the lock pieces and Narset he’s running 🙄
Fun to see yawgmoth pop off. I am pretty sure Stephen would get a draw trigger whether or not the target of the -1/-1 counter is sacrificed by an opponent in response. Additionally there could have been a lot more interaction at instant speed in response to the attempts to remove zulaport. For example, sac token remove counter from butcher ghoul, drain1 draw1; sac butcher ghoul put -1/-1 on enemy creature, drain1 draw1; spend 1 for nether traitor and repeat the process
Yep, is up to one, so it works with 0, and I doesn't matter if he targeted the sliver when put the ability in the stack, it still resolves, because it can with 0 targets.
You may activate Yawgmoth’s first activated ability without choosing a target creature. You’ll just draw a card. However, if you choose a target and it becomes illegal before the ability tries to resolve, the ability won’t resolve and you won’t draw a card.
At 47:30 when Jeremy responded to Stephen's activation of yawgmoth's ability by exiling yawgmoth, couldn't Stephen have responded with his initial plan? Edit: ah nvm Jeremy was responding to zulaport cutthroat
I love how the director allowed them to call out twitch for questioning Jeremy’s cascades, without mention to the players that twitch didn’t actually get to see it because he had the camera focused on Jon leaning back in a chair instead of covering Jeremy’s turn. lmao
Mono Green has a card for one green called Pipers Melody, Sorcery: Put any number of creature cards from your graveyard into your library. I feel like that can make green a threat again later in the game.
Justin, it may have been a Dormant Sliver deck with just green and blue, Pauper EDH. I´m not sure about it but I remember someone drew lots of cards, and it was impressive.
About the 2h mark Steven blocked all attacking bears with the tokens and his pawn of Ulamog. Wasn't that a huge misplay? If the pawn would have lived it could produce tokens with every reassembling skeleton Steven sacs to the demon. That could have turned the game in favor for him, right?
"What artifact do you think I'm gonna go get Stephen? Name a two drop artifact you think I'd go and go get." Winter Orb. Sometimes I wonder if me and Jon Suarez are the same person.
I think it pulled off a couple wins on CommanderReplay as well. People just tend to ignore Ayula until they are either out of resources or it's too late. With that said, it only won on here and The Command Zone because both opponents made miss plays at the end.
Slight misread from Stephen at 1:48:35 which would have let him easily control the whole board with the skeleton in his graveyard: Pawn of Ulamog does not have a 'when enters: put an eldrazi spawn..." BUT a trigger every time a non token creature dies... So: with Reassemble Skeleton in his graveyard, Dictate of Erebos and Abhorrent Overlord in play... yeah good luck for keeping creatures on board
I do not believe Yawgmoth's draw effect fizzles if the original -1/-1 target fizzles, because it's an up to target. Meaning that you can choose to target 0 creatures and the draw would still happen. I may be wrong though.
As somebody who has way too many Tribal decks, Morophon is easily my favourite Modern Horizons commander. It makes so many forgotten tribes more viable, and even common tribes can be better.

@HaloRocks so you are saying if one person pulls ahead of the rest, the table shouldn't combine forces against him but search the weakes t one and hate him out? Yawgmoth is stronger than Urza when in non- cedh 75% builds and against 2 Creature decks. And fyi, yes, i've watched the game.
The two matched I've seen where Ayula was used as a commander, the player piloting the deck won. Maybe it's actually a pretty good commander after all.
If you're speaking of Game Knights + this one, keep in mind that in both players the bear deck did relatively little for the majority of the game (moreso Game Knights than here but still, Justin wasn't exactly in control of this game at any point until the end), then won because their opponent made an absolutely mind-boggling misplay. That's not indicative of normal gameplay, unless your local table is full of players who routinely toss games away.
Surely you guys heavily misinterpreted Yawgmoth's second ability? I mean, it says: "Pay 1 life, sacrifice another creature: Put a -1/-1 counter on UP TO one creature AND draw a card." Even if the creature targeted with the -1/-1 counter would be sacrificed, you still would draw a card, as the -1/-1 counter isn't part of a payment cost for drawing the card.
If you don't target, then you get to draw. If you do target and the target no longer exists, you don't. The Gatherer ruling states 'You may activate Yawgmoth's first ability without choosing a target creature. You'll just draw a card. However, if you choose a target and it becomes illegal before the ability tries to resolve, the ability won't resolve and you won't draw a card.'
That ruling is actually 100% in line with the basic rules of Magic. If a spell or ability that targets no longer has any legal targets when it attempts to resolve, the entire ability does not resolve.
@@Kestral287 I am aware of variants of the rule, but I didn't know the same would be true if an ability had two individual results; I wasn't aware that even if one part of the ability is optional, if it is being used but will fail to resolve, the other part of the ability would become conditional and thus fail as well.
