So much mystery, curiosity and suspense about this game!! I’m sure it will be quite expensive, so I’m a bit surprised to see the low quality of the train sets. Despite that, I will probably pre-order being a huge fan of Ticket to Ride. We’ve introduced quite a few people to board games via Ticket to Ride. A personal favorite of mine is Ticket to Ride Rails and Sails, despite that it did to not get the best reviews. It was designed to be closer to a mid-weight, more complex version of Ticket to Ride, yet has been criticized for doing so. Also really enjoy Ticket to Ride Europe, Anniversary edition. So beautiful and is a bit more complexity than the original Ticket to Ride. For a 6 player count, Ticket to Ride Asia, is great and has some interesting game mechanics about how much information you can share with your partner. More recently, my gaming group has played Ticket to Ride Germany (gotta love the meeples) and Japan (shared bullet train concept). Both are great games!
Some of my favourite additions to TTR have been the bullet trains in Japan (shared trains that all players can use for tickets) and UK technology (having to buy the ability to do certain things). Also some interesting scoring related mechanics with bonus for lots of different regions in Italy and tickets that go from one place to your choice of 4 destinations (Switzerland).
UK is our favorite map to play! If you've played a lot of ticket to ride or like playing heavier weight games it adds a lot of complexity and different ways to strategize.
I have played almost all of the expansions and standalone versions. My favorite is France & Old West. In France you build the map during the game by laying out a track bed when you draw cards. In Old West you can build houses, which give you the points if another player builds a route to a city with your house.
Great video and teaser! TTR was also one my intro games right behind Pandemic! So I have many (not all) of the expansions and versions. I enjoy TTR Europe and probably favorite maps are UK/Pennsvania (with stocks) and Nordic edition (reminds me of Christmas time and has a low player count). I will definitely be looking to get this as soon as it comes out. Laura, being the light gamer, really enjoys TTR so am hoping I can get her to play this Legacy edition! Thanks for sharing this "unboxing"! Whoot! Can't wait.
Ticket to Ride is my husband's favorite game - he is a casual gamer - and this one is an instant buy for our household. I am extremely jealous that you have a copy, lol. I am very much looking forward to your final thoughts on the game once you have played through the campaign.
Ooo what a great opportunity to play through a game that he will love but you'll also get to enjoy the twists along the way (we assume... we haven't started it yet!) Look forward to sharing our review video with you after the embargo! 😄
To answer your deshrinking question - I have one of my husband's old bank cards lying around that I always use to pierce the shrink. Not sure if there's some level of irony or something like it within that, but it works well!
Hahahahaha love the irony in that. We do that sometimes too! This box had shrink that was open at one end (perhaps because it was bursting!) so no accessories were required 😆 thanks for watching!
My two variants are the stocks in the Pennsylvania map and the cities from the Old West map. Note, the Pennsylvania map plays best at 3+ and Old West really only shines at 4, 5 or 6.
The stock variant is in the UK/Pennsylvania board. The Pennsylvania side has stocks and the UK side has a tech tree mechanism to use as you work your way across the map.
@@ThinkerThemer we are playing pandemic season one, and we are playing kings dilemma and we have gloom haven but we are saving for that for when we've boxed off KD and pandemic otherwise its too many stories going at once! I'm also trying to get Charterstone started with my family back home!
This looks very interesting! The only legacy games I've played are Gloomhaven and The King's Dilemma, but I do love Ticket to Ride. Unfortunately not a regular enough group with enough interest in TtR to get into this, but ah well, I have enough storage space problems already. :')
I love legacy games, but it is challenging to get in that number of games if a) your whole gaming group prefers to "mix it up" and/or b) if the game length is very time consuming. TTR Legacy seems like the perfect "hey let's just do a quick game" time commitment. Really looking forward to this! (Definitely also interested in your opinion on # of players)
So, I am huge into board gaming. I have a pretty sizeable collection, but I would never unshrink a game on camera for a very strange reason. I love doing it for one. so, it’s a treat to open a new game up and explore the contents. But the big reason is a weird one for me. Most new games have that new game smell which causes my nose to run like crazy. So, I have to have tissues near by, and then have to leave the game open for a couple of hours before putting it away. You don’t want to see that.
Wow really! Is that every game? Does it happen at all with newer games that are already out of shrink? It's usually me (Amy here) that unshrinks most things. I also love the moment of looking into the box for the first time. I like to do it as a little break between tasks. 🤩
@@ThinkerThemer Sorry didnt see this until now. No. not every game. it’s callled Smell Sensitivity. I don’t know why it’s not called an allergy but allergy medication does reduce the symptoms. Anyways I am sensitive to some dyes and glues and pretty much all perfumes found in candles, Laundry detergent, scented lotions and soaps. I love opening new games and punching them out then sorting them out, sleeving and then reading the rules, watching videos (like you guys) then planning out the storage solution for the game. It’s a ritual that I love enough to deal with the allergies. Funny thing, I just got Barcelona and Expeditions and no allergies with either.
@@Endeva09 I know you were just being sarcastic. but I have been to the doctor and have seen many specialists. I use medication to regulate it and my work luckily has a policy of no perfumes are allowed to be applied at the office. Which, for the first time in 25 years is actually happening. Seems that since Covid, more people are becoming more sensitive to smells that they are unfamiliar with. Or maybe they are just becoming aware of their reactions to them.
Great teaser! Well somehow I managed to never play TTR, or Pandemic and I tried to avoid Catan - unsuccessful, because of my daughter's love for it. I went full steam with Carcassonne and jumped on this Train for all expasions. Will this one be my first Legacy game (I think Gloomhaven doesn't count)?
Can you say anything about the game as a 2 player experience? I really love the wild west theme but I would only be able to play it at 2 players. I wonder if that works well.
We mention it after this point. It did come out first but with Pandemic Legacy as number 2 on BGG it feels as though it was the one that propelled the Legacy idea forward significantly. It did for us!
I am looking forward for this game. It will be something new. There is a nearly 10 years history for me with Ticket to Ride. The one different way I play the game: The points for roads are counted after the game. Well not when I play "Africa map" (I played it only twice) and for UK I hope that I understand correctly that every track has the plus points not those whom were built after the player has obtained the gadget that grants extra points but that is not the issue UK is not played that often. My favorite (not to play but just I like the concept of it) "component" is the way how the France map is played where the player chooses the colours of the track. And my favorite mechanics are tweeks of fields like tunnels where more card have to be used, the crossed ones where more trains have to be used and many other field changes like in the world map when one field has a double thing going on. For Co-Op the Shinkansen in Japan map is a nice touch. I could go on but I don't know if this is the place for it.
I only regret that after having put such effort in the design of an obviously costly game, the trains are as basic as that. I own the 2 anniversary editions and I would have expected the trains of the Legacy edition to be as detailed as they are in the anniversary editions.
My husband and I are huge Ticket to Ride fans. We play some version weekly and keep a running score. I don't have any idea what a legacy game is, but it sound intriguing. I have one question. In these legacy games are there things you have to figure out like Exit games? We absolutely stink at finding those clues and frankly, I won't waste our money if it is something like that. I hope it isn't because this sounds so cool! Are those trains bigger? I think the yellow is a caboose (but traditionally, the caboose was always red). Thank you for showing us! Looking forward to your review!
I don't know about this game specifically, but I've played Pandemic Legacy. In that game, the first time you play it's pretty much just a normal game of Pandemic. But some actions and events cause permanent changes to the board via stickers (eg when a city has an outbreak, it's changed permanently). Future plays add more new rules and permanent changes, but it's always in small digestible chunks. There's never a massive new set of rules dumped on you all at once. And there's no puzzle elements either. It always sticks to the theme and mechanics of the base game, with minor modifications. That said, if you're worried about this, I'd hold off on preordering and wait to read the later reviews. Once reviewers can be more specific, and especially once the game is launched on November 3, it'll become possible to answer your question more precisely.
I love the train companies from the Pennsylvania expansion being the companies in this game. Can't wait to see exactly what this is all about!

This looks so exciting!!
We haven’t played TTR in a million years, but I can see playing this.
Looks really interesting!
16:40 I should point most of those 162 expansions are fan made. The number of official expansions is more like 16.
Thank you for clarifying - we thought that would be the case but 16 is still a lot! I wonder if any of the fan made content will make it in 🤔
Ooooo me and my friends are just getting into legacy games!
Perfect timing! Which have you played so far?

The Mandela in India is very good and always love Switzerland for 2 to 3 players
I love the Switzerland version for lower player count, you can only use locomotives to build tunnels, can connect cities to countries.
