Depends what circles you walk in. I know many people who hold him in the highest regard and that is all that matters, not what is published in magazines.
Was there, and the crowd was most certainly not dead. Live footage never comes close to truly reflecting the atmosphere of gigs. The whole night was full of non-stop mosh pits, crowd surfing, and people just having a good time, would hardly describe it as dead. A truly amazing night.

Brann Dailor is a seriously talented musician. Makes incredibly complicated drumming seem like child's play.....whilst singing at the same time!
Hands down 1 of their best songs they ever wrote the speed the melodies the singing just fuckin awesome. Truly an awe inspiring band.
2:00-2:05 is really beautiful vocals, love the harmony. Overall amazing performance.
I searched for a live performance of this song because I couldnt believe that someone can drum so wildly while singing so amazingly. And sure enough Brann has bitchslapped me in the face with this amazing performance :)

I HOPE this is a DVD! This quality is fucking incredible and the band's spot-on.
A listener cannot scrutinise a band for changing their sound and direction. For me, The Hunter is a fresh reminder that Mastodon is still young at heart, and they absolute nail this track live. I saw them two nights before in Norwich, and by no means have they lost their 'old sound'. They're not slowing down for anyone: head down running from the beast.
If I could keep the first twenty seconds of this song in loop in my head, I could get so much more done in a day.

Man Bran's such a badass, I can't imagine being in such good shape to drum vigorously and STILL sing, I'd be out of breath after about 10 seconds of singing and my drumming would suffer from it.

Aye, Cracke the Skye tour was awesome for that... Went there expecting huge mosh pits and just walked in and 2 hours later walked out stunned... Still my favourite Mastodon album by far lol... Don't stay.... Run away...

It's hit or miss with their live vocals. One time I seen them, and Brent sounded like a dying cow. lol
they tried harder for the recording maybe id say brent is the main culprit for fucking the live vocals and bran im surprised doesn't collapse troy sounds like himself
I saw them on some late night show and it was awful! Was not that excited to see them live after that. However I attended a show that was cancelled the day before from rain and lighting. Crowd was less than 8000 that next day in a 20k+ venue. THEY WENT HARD AS FUCK. Outstanding live performance

In an interview, Brann says they wrote the verse riff backstage while touring Blood Mountain; this song has had a lot of time to 'breathe'. I guess all I can say is sorry you fail appreciate this song and album as much as is possible.

This video brings me back to the day i saw mastodon at sonisphere in milan, i was high as fuck moshing and singing around, that was one of the best days of my life, despite the bad eq during all the fest.

I can't listen to most modern bands but Mastodon you guys have one of the most unique sounds out there. Hopefully other rock bands will follow your example and find there own sound, instead of relying on generic vocals and excessive power chords.

Yeah, I went with a couple of mates (1 of whom was his 1st proper gig) and he liked Red Fang before we went and said to make sure we got there in time to hear them. Safe to say I was really impressed by them, so much so I got the album afterwards!

The first time I saw them in Madrid, I was so excited... but right at the beginning of the show no one would even move their neck. Definitely it's not a mosh pit event, a Mastodon concert. Apart from this anecdote, I think this band play some of the best music and the best live act of the last ten years. Son de lo mejor en muuuchos años.

I met them through their promotion of the Resistance 3 DLC w/ Insomniac, they are seriously the coolest dudes on the planet, I mean, people might act like they've got something but until you're in a room with these guys you don't quite realize how little you've got. True x-factor, not game show bullshit.
I can't agree with you more! I go to concerts to listen to awesome music in a genuine and performed setting, not to run and push around people I don't even know.
