    Nice to see you back. One of the scenes in this episode reminds me of the lesson I learned a couple of years ago. I was out and arriving home late in the evening, and as you know, it can get pretty dark in late autumn. It was pitch black, and although I was familiar with my berth, it was a struggle to maneuver the boat in the darkness. So after that, I bought some flood lights to ensure I would never try working in the dark again. Cheers.

    Chris, Great to see you back, enjoyed the video, Aurora is looking great. For winter sailing might want to think about small portable radiators, brilliant addition for when on shore power. 😀

      Hi Jon, This was a little in the past, but she is still looking good :) hope Tranquility is doing fine also. Funny you should mention the radiators, we bought one this year to keep the noise down from the fan, it works brilliantly.

    Hi Chris, I'm a 388 owner in the Solent and loving it and your channel with tips and advice. I wondered if you would please tell me who makes the rubber door stop for the bathroom door I noticed in a recent video? A common design fault on these Hanse's! Cheers Tony

    • @SailingAurora
      @SailingAurora  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Tony, so sorry for the late reply here. I actually modified something that should connect on the push pit and then put a rubber door stop on it. I believe is was something like this that I modified:

    When you have the main out, why change to rachet? If your furling lines for the main are tight, it will keep the main in the position you first put it. When I take the main out with a reef, I just release the furling lines so that the main runs free, then I pull out the main and when I have the amount out that I want I just pul from the furling line and it locks the main.

    • @SailingAurora
      @SailingAurora  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, with our setup you have to pull the outhall pretty hard to get the sail to start moving out. When it starts moving, if there is heavy wind, the wind will take the sail out pretty fast and before I can get to the other side to lock it off the sail will already have come all the way out, so there needs to already be a little resistance on the furler so it's controlled. I guess it's a little different depending on how easy the sail furls on each boat. As for the rachet, it's for peace of mind, I don't trust locking the furling ropes on the winch as much as I trust the rachet lock. You got me thinking there for sure, cheers

    • @topc9858
      @topc9858 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @SailingAurora OK. I have the same selden mast and system. I have jammers/locks in the furling line, I just pull the furling line to good tension, and that's it. I have never used the rachet possibility. The worst wind I have been is a bit over 50 knots with two reefs and no problem with the sail. My lines are on the roof, so I have all the lines in a small space.

    When furling in the main, try had a litte bit wind in from starboard, not let the sail move to much, and it should be very easy furl it in by hand use the endless line, no need go to the foredeck. If battens stuck a bit you might need use winch. Feels unsafe to go to the mast when single handed. Enjoy your videos.

    • @SailingAurora
      @SailingAurora  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ole, thanks for the advice. I have tried everything to make it easier with the endless furler including coming off the wind a little. It's always more difficult because of the FCL sails we have, they are much stiffer than Dacron and take some man handling both in and out. I can use the endless furler but it just takes ages to do. If the water wasn't flat calm I would use that approach even if it takes a long time. Thanks for the complement also. Will try to keep the videos streaming out weekly or at worst bi weekly until the summer. BR Chris

      @@SailingAurora Yes if struggle with a thick fabric in your main it can be hard, quality and thickness of the taffeta fabrick has all to say for easy handeling, maybe upgrade to a electric winch? If your sail is wet and swollen it might me harder as well.

    • @SailingAurora
      @SailingAurora  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@olekristoffersen9298 I have bought a electric drill adaptor specifically to wind it in quickly. I haven't tested this yet though, must remember to try it, you need a faily powerful drill machine though.

    Hi, nice sailing. Thanks for sharing these October moments. One question:
    You are having an endless rope in the main sail. Are u able to use that endless rope from the cockpit when rolling in the main?
    Greetings from Finland 😊

    • @SailingAurora
      @SailingAurora  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Sanna, thanks very much. Yes, we can furl the main from the cockpit also, but with the winch it generally takes alot longer and is alot harder to do. In heavy weather I would definately stay in the cockpit to furl the main. Cheers
