Hey guys! Thank you so much for watching. This video has been a passion project of mine for the past few months, and I’m really excited to finally release it. Between scripting, voiceover, illustration, animation, and editing, this project took at least a couple hundred hours to complete, and it’s hard to believe it’s actually finished.
Please keep in mind that this essay is a bit more personal than my “discussion” videos. The goal wasn’t really to analyze the games objectively as much as it was to explain my own reasons for falling in love with the world of Splatoon. I hope by listening to these thoughts, you might find something new to take away from this series and video games in general. At the very least, I hope you enjoy!

sometimes i get really emotional thinking about wave goodbye, the splatoon 3 credits song, because you can hear human voices chanting the calamari inkantation. this implies that it was written by humans and passed down to inklings and octolings, even if by accident, and that it is quite literally IN their dna. it makes me wonder if inklings and octolings, upon hearing this song, feel the same hope and joy that we feel when embracing our human nature and indomitable spirit. i know its really silly but its how i feel.

Honestly I never even noticed that but… that fits the lore perfectly.
Even with the lore of the Crystalized Memories as I call it, both it helped Ink/Octolings evolve with society and biology… but also helped them impact their souls for lack of a better term.

Finally someone else who thinks this! If you really think about it, the Calamari Inkantation technically WAS written by humans as Splatoon seems to canonically exist in its own world.

I wish people during my time in high school understood why I was into this game. I would sort of get clowned on by a lot of people for it. Now in college the new people I've met show interest in it even if they never heard of it. One quick gander at the my consoles screen, sketchpad, or backpack is all it takes to know what it is. Really this game is what got me to go to college since I appreciate its love for the arts. Art is really the only thing I see myself doing with my life. I keep to myself as a means of protecting myself from being disappointed, hated, and hurt. What I create does the talking for me because I can't ever seem to allow myself to verbally say anything.

I always interpreted Tartar’s speech as darkly ironic. He, like many fascists, idealizes civilizations of the past, looking at their successes while ignoring their flaws. Octo Expansion celebrates the fact that there will never be a perfect civilization, but that lack of perfection, as you say early on, is what makes interesting worlds - what makes us human. When we kill him, we destroy the last direct link to humanity. It’s horribly melancholy, but it’s a necessary step - we must let go of the past to meet the future.
I’m so glad this game series exists.
(Also, this was an absolutely incredible video. You should be very proud of it.)

Honestly every Villian I have seen in this fits this theme.
Octovio in Splatoon 1 and 2 had him trying to improve and basically perfect the Octoling race and the place they call home.
Grizz sought to bring back the days of mammals from the Greenhorn’s of the Inklings/Octolings
And while I haven’t played the Side- Order Expansion yet outside of the tutorial part and the first boss… even THEY have a feeling of wanting to have the world never change and be in a state of stagnation… never changing but never improving.

eng tartar's views are a shade beyond that, i think. it hates what mollusks have done BECAUSE their mistakes are the same as humanity. humanity's flaws are the very reason why tartar was created, and it knows those flaws all too well. it is PERFECTLY aware that humans made the same mistakes.
no, that's not where the anger comes from. from tartar's perspective, mollusks were meant to be BETTER than humanity, and they *failed.* TARTAR failed. THAT is what he's angry about - THAT is why he specifically lists off flaws that are also evident in human society.
tartar hates mollusks because _they are the same._

I've heard a theory talking about how Tartar and Judd were meant to be together, with Judd being the emotional side and Tartar being the logical side. With Tartar being by themselves for thousands years made him essentially lose any humanity he'd had and just made decisions by logic, coming to the conclusion that killing and remaking is better than teaching.

    • @slywhemwick8071
      @slywhemwick8071 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +86

Honestly that also fits with Grizz from 3 as well.
They had knowledge of Humanity from surviving for so long in the ruins of the Arc but no soul to it. Just the basic summary and logic of what humans did without the proper context to WHY we did it.
Companies probably had a LOT of leftover advertisements and media on old internet(before whatever Splatoon’s modern equivalent is) so if trying to go back to a better time; they can just try to do that.

I want to tie in Chaos vs Order. It’s a beautiful miracle that Chaos won. Pearl was the embodiment of change. She wanted expression and free will. She stood up for everyone, especially those she loved. Her victory is the perfect end cap to Octo Expansion’s ending. Because she won, we got a more accepting society with a mishmash of cultures all smeared onto one canvas. That’s pretty special

Also, I think I'd add tp the point on the idea of the "Destruction of Humanity's Legacy" is that...
After Splatoon 3, I took my own interpretation of Tartar's defeat. Both Tartar and Mr. Grizz make one fatal mistake in not realizing that the new life on the planet, the Inklings and Octolings, ARE Humanity's Legacy. Our collective consciousness distilled into liquid crystal, and carried on into the next generation of life on earth.

Well then.... Spoilers for Side Order.
The antagonist of Side Order is another Rogue AI called Order, inside of a virtual space called the Memverse. It's implied that Marina accidentally Created Order during her trials in the process of making the memverse (Though I don't have all the Dev Diaries to confirm more info yet)
Once you reach Order's chamber at the end of a run for the first time, Order and Marina have a conversation about this. Order's belief that a perfect world is a stable one without change or desire, and Marina outright rejecting that, saying about how there was a time she believed everything would stay the same, and that uncertainty can tire you or make you afraid of what tomorrow might bring, but that the gamble of the beauty that that uncertainty can bring is one she's willing to take.
Order takes some time to process the fact that its creator, and the creator of the memverse as a whole, would deny them, and immediately breaks down in an "unrecoverable mentality error" (in its own words) and resorts to destroying everyone anyway.
Aside from the painfully obvious comparison of being two Artificial Intelligences, Marina explicitly denying the monster that Order had become seems to parallel with Tartar. The Human who created Tartar probably would have gone against this "destructive" philosophy specifically BECAUSE they have the humanity to know that these same mistakes that the inklings and octolings make are those which humans made in their own time... But neither of the AI's could process the contradiction, and with their psyches shattered by the revelation, they turn to apocalyptic measures.

honestly, i feel like Splatoon 3's hero mode is actually the perfect addendum to your point about how the power of creation can change lives for the better. the game's ending is not only a fanservice-y "everyone is here!" moment outside of characters in splatoon 2's octo expansion, but also the first time all 3 sides, Inkling, Octoling, and Salmonid, are working together. it's a unification of all former sea life that CAN fight to do so to protect their only home from yet another misinterpretation of what might as well of been Humanity's Last Will and Testament to this world. we have new Agent 3 on the front lines of space, the anarchy trio joining with the squid sisters and octavio to drop the fattest musical beat to kick ass with, and Little Buddy, your sidekick goes from the little sidekick to a secondary protagonist empowered by the inkantation as well. the battle in space is a spectacle of a statement that says "the next generation will always create greater and greater feats" basically.
it's also the first Base Game storyline where you can play as an Octoling, which can be looked into from the standpoint of mercifully putting thier fuzzified former friends out of their misery.

I wonder if Tartar was actually "disgusted" by the new species specifically because they had already made the same mistakes humans had, before Tartar even got the chance to relay the humans' information/knowledge? Perhaps one of his goals was to relay the humans' knowledge for the specific purpose of preventing new sentient life from making the same mistakes that they did. I wonder if wiping out the species entirely was a conclusion that the AI came to itself - lacking that sense of humanity - or if it was something that humans had programmed into it, thinking it would be more "humane" to stop another species from potentially suffering the way they did? Tartar and the extinction of the humans in the Splatoon universe is so spooky to think about!!!

Oh this? This is a great video essay.
When I say I love Splatoon's lore, I sometimes find it hard to express what I mean by that... Like, people assume lore=plot and get confused because on the whole, Splatoon's story mode plotlines and writing is uh...y'know. LOL
But no, it is the WORLD of Splatoon that has an iron grip on my brain. The level of detail put into the most random aspects of the Inkling's society and culture, the way the developers have thought about the world in a way that feels realistic and subtly dark despite the colorful cartoony exterior, the morally gray conflict between species that isn't fully addressed in the main stories but certainly exists in the background, the sociopolitical parallels to our own world and the way the echoes of humanity influences their society and- it's hard to express!
You've wonderfully encapsulated here WHY you, I, so many people love the world of Splatoon despite the surface level plot being far from the pinnacle of storytelling. Also really refreshing to see someone who actually GETS IT analyze Splatoon's story on a deeper level and what it's all about. excellent narration, editing, production quality, 888 out of 10

I think it's a bit of a mistake to skip over Splatoon 2's story mode. Because of the Calamari Inkantation from Splatoon 1, the Octarians were so inspired by it that it prompted Octavio to kidnap and brainwash Callie into providing inspiration and design changes into the Octarian Army. The reason the Octarians' ink is so sparkly is because of Callie, and the Octo Samurai is a fan of Callie's. I think it reflects how the world of Splatoon isn't one of immediate change, but of gradual change, and it showcases that even if the story is mostly the same, the characters' are adapting to their circumstances.

I think another thing that makes Splatoon's narrative so powerful is that each entry acknowledges that the player is growing up. In Splatoon 1, your Inkling is a teen, but by Splatoon 3, they're a young adult. Throughout this aging process, it makes sense that you'd be able to understand more about the complexities and moral greyness of the world, thus they'd be able to tell increasingly deeper stories with Octo Expansion and Side Order. I love this game series and I can't wait to see what they do next!

It really says a lot that so many people were the same age of the characters when Splatoon 1 came out. We grew up with the characters, and we matured with them. We see the past of prejudice, even unintentionally engaging with it; we see the present of division, a conflict we think we're on the right side of until the layer is peeled back and we're forced to confront our own biases; and we see the future of hope, realizing that there is always room to grow, there is always more to learn, and there is always a chance for things to get better.

It's extremely obvious that Music has incredible power in the splatoon universe. The Octarian "King" as you call him isn't even referred to as king, but as DJ Octavio, and his giant battle-robot is decked out by a full surround sound system and Turntables. The fact that he is a Musician is more important than the have that he is a Political Leader. The same thing with the Squid Sisters. Their role as artists, and THE performer of "That Heavenly Melody", the Calamari Inkantation, is shown to have the power to rock people to their core, give an old man the strength to break out of bondage just to dance, and cleanse the souls of those touched by corruption.

Gotta say, you COOKED here, my guy. Wonderful work! I was always fascinated by the Splatoon world and lore, even though I never really search for it. It's dark, interesting and each game is like they are evolving mire step by step.
One thing I absolutely love is the interpretation of a certain world event that defined the relation between Inklings and Octolings in the franchise: the great flood.
In Splatoon 1 we learned the Great Turf War happened as a result for a fight for territory, since the flood made land smaller and didn't had enough space for everyone. So, Inklings and Octolings fought and the result is as we know. Inklings won, meanwhile Octolings were forced underground. Pretty much the flood can be seen as what separated Inklings and Octolings and forced them into war, showing that perhaps they could never live in harmony... Now, this view of the great flood could be seen from the perspective of a Inkling and Octolings from GREAT INKOPOLIS. In the Splatlands, however, is different.
In Splatoon 3 we learned that the flood also hit there, however instead of going into war for territory, something else happened. The "Three Lights", a union of the 3 main Clans united to save them. The Manta Clan (a clan of Mantas), Ell Clan (a clan of Inklings) and the Shark Clan (a clan of OCTOLINGS). Instead of fighting, they united and save the Splatlands from the flood, allowing them to keep living in harmony without war.
So, while the flood in Inkopolis could be seeing as a event that separated the two kinds, in the Splatlands it could be seeing as an event that united them further and proved they could always live in harmony. Perhaps, if things were different, the Great Turf War could have been avoided all together, if Splatlands is to be seen as an example. I don't know but it is some food for thought. If what Nintendo said is true Splatoon 3 story marked the end of the Octarian War saga. Maybe now Octavio and Cuttlefish could be in good terms and makes it easier for all Octolings to move to the surface. Maybe the next world ending event is something Octolings and Inklings could fave together, in union... Maybe hibrids of Octolings and Inklings, that so many wish was real, could finally be a reality.
SIDE ORDER SPOILERS FOR STORY, MARINA DEV DIARY AND THE LAST REWARD FROM THE LOCKERS. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED:
Even Side Order gives an end to the Sanitization and Eight Arc. The Memverse was made by Marins to help Sanitized Octolings to recover their memories and pretty much be cure from what happened to them in the Deep Sea Metro. Also help Eight recover their memories. Considering Eight's final Pallette is their own, is possible they did recover at the true end of the game. So, who knows, maybe in a possible Splatoon 4 Sanitized Octolings will also be part of the world :D

My god, this video was so good. I genuinely shed tears at some points, especially the octo expansion part. The way you explain everything so… perfectly?? So clearly?? Oh I could go on and on
I have always seen splatoon as some sort of love letter to creativity, so many different artforms and people coming together to make something and work together, it’s beautiful! Even through different worldviews and opinions, they still come around to make something work.
I also loved how you explained the different perspectives of the world from the eyes of inklings and octolings, it really shows how flawed Splatoon’s world really is, and I love that. The inklings aren’t perfect, octolings aren’t perfect, WE aren’t perfect. But we all have room for change and acceptance. Nobody’s perfect.
Thank you for making this video! I enjoyed it all the way through. I will definitely be recommending this video to other splatoon fans or people who want to know more about the lore in depth!! ❤️

This is why I love this game series: the unabashed celebration of the best parts of humanity. The fact that it never shied away from the darker parts, the grim realities of a real life world is what makes the message so powerful and meaningful. For me, Splatoon 3's story mode was the perfect bookend for the story: that the creativity, the optimism, the drive for reaching for ever greater heights was what carried on from humanity to these future sea creatures.
I remember staying up into the wee hours of the morning, playing the ending of Octo Expansion for the first time. The music, the story, it changed me just as you said it did for you, and I will never forget it.

I'm about halfway through the video as I write this, so you might talk about this later, but hearing you talk about Eight's drive to reach the surface, it reminds me of what we learn in Alterna. How the remnants of humanity - trapped underground - desired to see the blue skies again so desperately that they plastered those very desires on the walls of their caves. Given that those crystals would later spark the evolution of all sapient life in Splatoon, I can't help but think that the Calamari Inkantation was such a powerful, life-changing event for those Octolings *because* it resonated with those long forgotten human dreams of reaching the surface - of escaping from their caves and seeing the skies above once more.

It's so rare to see a video essay truly be an essay, to say more than what's on the page, to offer a perspective that is both refreshing and insightful. I've loved Splatoon just as long as you have, in a similar timeframe and age as you, and it is incredible to see thoughts I've had said so eloquently. I cannot say that I've thought this much about Splatoon, been as touched by it as you have, but it's magical, to see the themes of the series given room to breath, to speak and live.
I'm watching this just as I'm about to finish up Side Order and this is perhaps the best time for me to see this, to see the majesty of storytelling that is kept to the sidelines and has a very good reason to be there. Both in a theming sense (to keep the cheery aesthetic) and for a very real story reason as you've described.
I'm not sure what else to say, but thank you. Thank you so much for creating this, for working so hard on this video and being able to touch so many people through it. I must wonder if you expected this much of a response, to touch so many people through the act of creation as you describe.

This video was truly something special. Critical analysis of media is important, but I have been skipping out on a lot of essays lately because I got the vibe they were just being made to talk about a series’/company’s problems.
“Oh, what’s that, you say? The MCU is declining in quality? Gee, thank you for reminding me for the 10,008th fucking time!”
To see such genuine passion put into your personal views of what makes Splatoon so beautiful to you is…nearly bringing tears to my eyes this very moment.
From my point of view, Splatoon is a good series. I’ve fallen off of the Turf Wars to the point where I only come back for the Splatfests. By the way, I am sick and tired of the Splatfest music, and I have no one to blame but myself.
That said, the Campaigns and Salmon Run have always been the peak of the game’s appeal to me. The former is because of the chaotic PvE nature and extra-world building, and the latter for…well, many reasons you pointed out. One thing I can say for myself is that the final battles (maybe with the exception of 2’s Base Story) never fail to get me hyped with their stellar music and over-the-top boss fights.
DJ Octavio (1) was absolutely brutal, but I pushed on through the power of the Calamari Inkantation. Octo Expansion’s entire finale was mind-blowing. 3’s Base Story and Side Order didn’t provide anything too new for me to think about, but had insanely hype finales with their own unique, over-the-top big finishers.
Speaking of Octo Expansion being mind-blowing…the amount of eights associated with the Year of the Octoling. I never picked up on a single detail. Not even the protagonist’s name being Eight. So much of what you shared had me grow a lot more respect for the series, mainly Octo Expansion.
Shoutouts to the writers for having Eight be the protagonist of Side Order. They knew what it was like to feel lost without a purpose, and had already fought to save others from losing their freedom. It only makes sense that they’d be the ones to do it again.
Your views on what this series means to you is inspiring and highly relatable. We all have different views on life, which can lead to conflict, but it can also lead to conversation. You said it yourself at the end.
“Objectively, these games are not the pinnacle of storytelling…or character writing…or animation. But this world means more to me than any other setting in fiction.”
    In my case…
LEGO Dimensions was just a cheap cash grab that joined the toys-to-life party way too late. But its stellar presentation, varied roster, love for (most of) the franchises it represents, and the original locales like Vorton have let those figures stay on my shelves for years,
The Muppets are not the pinnacle of comedy or storytelling, but their fuzzy hearts and charm of being genuinely flawed “people” who never know when to give up has been enduring to me,
And Kirby doesn’t have peak gameplay in my opinion, nor does it have consistent chronology across its stories, but a majority of those stories might have a deeper meaning if you decide to peek behind the curtain and let your imagination run wild. I think everything about the Kirby series has been as inspirational and comforting to me as Splatoon is to you.
Thank you for sharing your love of what you believe in.
    Stay Fresh, Cosmic.

The darkness of Splatoon's world reminds me of how Kirby games handle lore.
The pause screen info sometimes gives you disturbing or depressing insight into what's going on, but it's not like Kirby ever learns that, he's focused on the main lighthearted goal, just like the Inklings.

I've been a fan of Splatoon since it released back in 2015, and even though is not my favourite game gameplay-wise, I've always loved its lore, art and its worldbuilding. It's a game that makes me very nostalgic but that keeps growing with me and lots of other people. And you were able to express everything I feel about this game in your essay and made me emotional. Congratulations on this video, it's incredible!

dude holy shit this is beautiful. The music choices, the discussion about the topics the game brings up. I didn't even know "Dark Nintendo" was a phrase brought up. Splatoon may have only been in my life since the launch of Splat 3, but it really holds a deep place in my heart, and this video perfectly captures the intricacies of splatoon and why we love the characters and the world that nintendo made for them so much.

I hope that this video is seen by as many people as possible. I’ve always been drawn in by the world of Splatoon and always loved its lore. However, it’s hard to explain that lore to a person who has never played the game, let alone help them understand the significance of it. I imagine that because of this, a lot of people online just assume that Splatoon fans are making a big deal over nothing.
I’m glad that there are videos like this I can show to other people and prove that it’s not nothing. Thank you so much for making this video.

I've gotta say, this is an amazing watch! Splatoon is a series I was super into when 1 released, but drifted away from it. For me, Splatoon holds IMMENSE nostalgia of my own childhood, I was 14 when it came out and am now 18. My life has changed so much and going into Splatoon 3 just made me feel so reminiscent of what the game stand for, how this game that was once seemingly joyful and energetic, with uplifting music had a deeper side. And still, hearing the "heavenly song" makes me just as energetic and motivated as I was as a kid, no matter what I am going through. For me, Splatoon is a series that weirdly enough I put beside the sonic series for having a seemingly energetic look, but very deep meaning and themes, at least up to 2001. It CAN be deep, it CAN motivate and hold values underneath, a telling sign of humanity and what conflict means in the real world, behind a game many would just see as a thrill to play. I love Splatoon for the reason it feels like YOU exist within it, YOU could actually have your hopes from Alterna impact inklings from humanity. It's the one game that comes closest to truly putting you in the foot of your player.

to paraphrase how i described it to a friend: this video puts into words why the world of splatoon is so intriguing to me, does a wonderful job of summarizing the plot without losing the narrative drama OR failing to incorporate how ridiculous the franchise is in general.. and got me to re-feel everything that made me so attached to the series in the first place.

This was honestly one of the best videos I've ever watched on here.
Splatoon 1 was one of my favourite games back on the Wii U, but Splatoon 2 simply failed to hook me back in due to it being so similar to Splatoon 1 in my eyes. I briefly played Octo Expansion but never thought much of it because I never cared to finish it or look too deep into it. Fast forward a few years, and now Splatoon 3's Side Order of all things got me back into the series. I never looked into the series' lore or all the nitty gritty details hidden away into the games' collectibles, but learning about it through videos like this has shifted my perspective on the series as a whole.
I got a bit teary-eyed at the end, hearing about the correlations between Splatoon's world and ecosystem and our own, as humans. We fight with each other on daily basis, we love, we hate, we make mistakes we don't learn from, but at the end of the day, when push comes to shove, we are all one. We might not always like each other, and we may not always agree with one another, but human creation and culture unites us. Watching the same TV show as someone else may result in an unexpected friendship. Creating art, or TH-cam content in this case, for others to look at and interpret may change the way someone looks at the world and their role in it.
Humanity is flawed, but boy am I happy to be a part of it. Much love from the Netherlands.

This is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen or heard. I had always looked on Splatoon from the outside, as a quirky and entertaining-looking game that fell outside my gameplay preferences but which I could nonetheless appreciate in terms of art, music, style, and surprisingly deep lore. I can't say I'm any more encouraged to play the games myself - like I said, they fall outside my gameplay preferences, I'm just not a big fan of most shooters - but still, thank you for opening my eyes to something beautiful that I otherwise wouldn't have known about. Art is the truest essence of humanity, and I love art that appreciates that fact.

This video just made me love it even more and realize just how empowering and positive the message of Splatoon is. Despite the post-apocalyptic setting of Splatoon, I always feel like there's something... Oddly hopeful about it all. That even after destroying ourselves, destroying our world... Life finds a way. Life goes on. Even after mankind dies off, our hope lives on. Even after we're gone, there will still be art. There will be music. There will be love. And that music can conquer any foe. Our song will continue to be sung throughout all of time.

I love Splatoon bc its a celebration of culture, especially in a world thats quickly demeaning the humanities in favor of STEM which are also a part of culture. In splatoon music is the central focus, anyone and everyone can and will post their art for random ppl to see. Splatoon for me, in addition to the celebration of humanity, and the will to thrive and see the next sunrise, is a rejection that STEM should be the only focus. Literature, Music, Food, Art, Sports are all forms of Expression, and should be celebrated

... Whenever I play multiplayer matches, I always try to combat the saltiness of a loss (because goodness, do Ranked matches get me heated up!) by reminding myself that, from the opponent's perspective, I'm probably giving them as much grief as they are giving me. That's the way these games go: someone has to lose, for the other team to have won. And I think, maybe, it doesn't actually have to be a bad thing. Yes, being trapped in A+ Rank forever is... pretty frustrating, but I am certainly *learning* through my losses. I love using the Aerospray, a weapon described by many as "with zero high-ranking combat potential", and I'd like to think I've become a pretty mean little thing with it over the years. I've grown! And maybe that's akin to the lesson here: failure sucks, but it's also complicated, but it's also an opportunity to grow.
Perhaps it's akin to how (supposedly) Eight and Three - now "The Captain" - came to accept and befriend each other. In all their tousles (even if one of them involved some creepy mind control), perhaps they saw another person behind the eyes of their opponent. Not an "enemy", but an "individual" - and perhaps now take a sort of pride in their matched strengths, a friendly rivalry of sorts. A way to view an opponent in a more positive light. (... And I know I'm perhaps projecting, but, uh, just. Just work with me, here.)
And now looking at what Splatoon 3 is containing, it does really feel like the messages are aligning with your points here. Splatoon 3's Story literally opens up with a subversion of expectations, the world itself almost humorously exhausted of these two elderly cephalopods always having this ancient grudge with each other. And it ends with that same song empowering everyone (literally, in the case of Smallfry), old grudges being lost in that iconic melody as everyone fights together against another villain unwilling to let go and move on from the past.
... Heck, Side Order... well, I won't say too much because at press time, it's still pretty new. But it again feels like it's a story about mistakes, people affecting other people, how culture inspires, and how our fears - even very reasonable ones - can hold us back from flourishing. It makes me wonder this story - heck, this franchise - may continue to evolve even further with additional stories.
... Alright, alright, I'll wrap things up. There's so much I could say, but we both have places to be! My point is: this is a really profound and heartfelt video essay, and I really do love what you've done here. It absolutely mirrors a lot of my own feelings about how I've experienced the game's narratives over the years, and just... how *genuine* you are in discussing your perspective on a hopeful message was truly moving. Truly fantastic!!
And... thank you, for this! This has absolutely made my day!

It took awhile, but TH-cam finally recommended another good video.
It's videos like these that show the artistry of video games. The power a narrative can have. The effects a work of art can have on people. And the meaning it can bring to the slog that is real life sometimes. I hope that more art like this tries to inspire, not disappoint. I've felt lost many a time, and I still push through it all. I try to be positive and motivate others, while not always doing the same for myself. These videos are comforting because they allow me, if only briefly, to suspend my troubles. So thank you for this.
(As an aside, I'm trying to get better at supporting myself like I do for others. It's just been a long process, for those wondering)

One of the reasons because i like Tartar's japanese translation is because it really shows just how much he idolizes the human race.
Where instead of wanting to create the ultimate lifeform like in the eng translation, he really just wants to create another humanity.
It's like Tartar doesn't want to move on and instead rathers commiting mass genocide and bring back a new generation of human beings.
And when you think about it, if we were in the splatoon universe... We probably would be rooting for him
