Loved this video as a 2014 2.0t owner with 50k miles on it 👌 5 years into ownership and love it more than ever
I have a bk2 r spec with a btr canned stage 2 tune. Love what you do and love that you make this so easy and simple for people. You deserve more recognition. 👌🏽
Thank you for this! I just recently decided to keep this car. Bought it brand new in 2014 and haven’t done anything besides cosmetic stuff and maintenance replacements (shocks, rotors etc) over the 8 years. Some neighbor offered me 12k for it and I was thinking of selling it and save for the new GR Corolla coming out. However, keeping the mods cost under 10k would still save me money and make it more fun!
If you follow the video your car will feel like a whole new car
@@BTRcarcustoms would you recommend getting coilovers? I replaced my stock shocks with Bilstein B8 with lowering springs a year ago. I was told by Jeff from genracer that it was a good upgrade to the stock ones without moving up to a coilovers system.
@@lacoupe5088 you can stick with what you have if that’s satisfactory. The silvers would be an upgrade with customization capabilities
Awesome video, always love listening to you talk & give recommendations about the BK2 2.0T. I died at the Sasquatch commercial tho 😂 😂
Nice intro Sam !
Thank you very much you are very smart and I will buy your parts you recommend and follow and learn more from you thanks again
Yea Mondays suck
Loving your vids sam
Hey Sam,
I have a 2014 2.0t manual with injen intake, NGK plugs and SFR canned tune. I’d like to add more stuff from this video to improve performance…turbo, boost controller and exhaust.
Will I need to retune the ECU after making these additional mods or will the SFR tune suffice? Also, what PSI do you recommend to run with the turbo you mentioned?
Btw, love this video. So glad I stumbled on it.
You will definitely need to get a retune when changing the turbo
I loved the video, do you know if the ISR down pipe would work in place of the MXP down pipe you have listed?
It will work :)
Hey Sam, just wondering, does the turbo just run off wastegate spring pressure? Or is it compatible with the electronic wastegate setup from the stock ECU?
You will need to run a electronic boost controller :)
What about the 8at? i mean what´s the biggest ft/lbs that bk2 with the 8at can be upgraded?
quick question about the ace alloy wheels, if i buy them on your website there is no option to change offset or anything? do they come sized to fit genesis coupe already
?
Yes they are spec’d to fit gencoupes. if you want custom offsets please put them in notes section and we can review it and let you know if its possible
Man…. A drop in turbo is sooo much more economical for labor.
Now they do a drop in option for VN.
I’m the dude who u did the Garrett GTX install on my VN.
I know this is a BK2 vid but I’m enjoying the vids and tend to comment way too much on TH-cam vids lol (yes I talk too much I know)
The biggest advantage to the genesis coupe is the position of the turbo. Its way easier to work on the turbo swap compared to the location of the turbo on the Veloster N
what about the mxp race pipes its the quad tips but full straight pipe 3inch. i am currently running it and love the sound but since id be following this to a tea would i need to pick up the one in this video for my 2013 auto to get close to 400 wheel
Same design just no mufflers. The one we choose has mufflers more toned sound
This video is awesome! I do have a quick question if that's okay. I just got a 2013 2.0t and want to get these mods but it's also my daily driver. As long as I don't punch the throttle every day do you think these mods will impact reliability much? Sorry if that's a basic question. I work with EVs for a living so ICE vehicles are a bit beyond my expertise when mods are involved.
This is perfect for what you are describing. Everything is setup with longevity in mind
Hey got another question if its alright. Planning on gettting a downpipe but dont really wanna get rid of the second cat. Will a downpipe alone without test pipes or a replacement second cat be worth it? And will i get any gains from that sound wise and performance wise?
Oem cats flow very well for what they are, so if you decide not to upgrade them its ok. Although changing the 2nd cat to the test pipe will give you advantage of increasing the pipe diameter evenly to 3” giving you even better gains than just the downpipe
@@BTRcarcustoms okok noted thanks! A test pipe might be something I'd consider down the road but now I'll stick on getting just the downpipe😁 really appreciate the quick replies its been very helpful👌🏻
If I already have a canned tune from you guys is it absolutely necessary to get re-tuned? What would the estimated difference in power be?
If you follow our guide you would be upgrading your turbo. Which requires a custom retune for you
@@BTRcarcustoms damn
@@BTRcarcustoms thanks for the reply
Will the same mods works for my 2017 Hyundai turbo?
Hi sorry but got another question. Im looking to get some power out of my stock turbo and wanna push just around 300whp. Was looking on getting an upgraded compressor wheel and pairing that with the downpipe and the bov spacer. After all that I'll get a tune as not really looking into going catless and what not as the gen is my daily. As mentioned before right now only have a K&N intake and a muffler delete. Wanted to ask if the compressor wheel would be worth it? And if so are there specific specs for the wheel I should look for? Im new to all this and was hoping you would be able to help. If you also have any other recommendations to push out as much with the stock turbo, that would be much appreciated. Sorry I keep asking questions but you've been the best source of information😅
Bk2 stock turbos can put down near 300 whp on manual transmission cars. Beyond that you do need to upgrade your turbo
@@BTRcarcustoms will an upgraded compressor wheel be worth it in reaching the 300whp? My bk2 is a manual as well.
@@jym4712 you don’t need it to reach 300
@@BTRcarcustoms Noted thanks again😁
So for a build like this you don't need to forge any engine internals? If I was trying to go for similar power say with 70k miles on engine? We gucci with just bigger snail, bolt ons and tune ?👍🏾
No need to build
You said the turbo you picked has to use the bk1 02 housing. Do all the other turbos need it too? i dont wanna have to buy another one cause i just bought this one.
All the turbos in the kit uses the bk1 housing
would the stock clutch be able to hold all this power, if not what clutch kit do u recommend?
Low miles yes. High miles you would want to upgrade to competition stage 2
Hey wanted to ask will a bov spacer be okay to run? I heard people saying it could cause future problems while others say it's fine to run them. Only thing I have on my gen is an intake and a muffler delete.
Spacers wont cause issues
@@BTRcarcustoms Thanks for the info! One more thing, do you have any particular brands you could recommend for the spacers?
@@jym4712 they are pretty much all same
@@BTRcarcustoms Thanks! Really appreciate the fast feedback! Looking forward to your next vids😁
Im interested in buying this set up this winter, just curious if I can use a block off plate where the bov is on the turbo and continue using the synapse bov on my turbo xs intercooler?
Yes you sure can
@@BTRcarcustoms thank you! I've heard the factory ecu's are tricky to tune, and I have no local alphaspeed tuner in my province so should I go about the standalone ecu route or trailer it to somewhere in Canada?
I just bought a 2013 2.0 a/t with only 22k on the clock. I'm 56 now so my rally driving days are over. I'm not looking to drag race all the wrx's, I'd just like a little bit more zip in me motor. I'm still learning about everything as when I was in my 20's it was all parts to be added. There was no panacea.
I'd just like a decent upgrade to get over 300 whp
Ecu and tcu tune with simple bolts on will net you just around that figure
@@BTRcarcustoms I'll do the first two. Not sure on the bolts on's though.
Can you give me an idea of the bolts on's? I see you're based in IL. That's a bit of a drive from MD. do you have a local dealer in MD?
idk if i trust just slapping a bigger turbo on this car i have a bk2 2.0t and im looking to make some power too but is that reliable?
Yes it is very reliable.
Any thing for a 2012 bk1 2.0? All i have is a blow of valve
Holy Crap, was the yeti Randy Pobs from Hagerdy?
I have 2 questions
1. Will car pass emissions after all these mods, I'm local.
2. I have a BK2 2.0T, when I replace my 02 housing should I buy the BK1 housing, I am not doing big turbo just yet.
You can pass emissions by running a catalytic converter. Oem ones flow relatively well even with the big turbo
I just put in a new boost gauge and I'm pushing 20 psi at wot (2013 2.0t), would that mean I'm definitely tuned? I have no idea whether I'm tuned or not, bought it from a dealership
not necessarily, we've seen some stock tune cars push 20psi peak. oem has a wide range of peak boost levels depending on the weather / sea level, etc.
@@BTRcarcustoms I appreciate it!
Do you recommend keeping the 2016 3.8 engine, or having a built 2.0 engine installed in the future? Either that, or have it LS swapped. How much cheaper would that be compared to keeping the 3.8 motor and trying to have it built to 4.0? I just started a new job in December at a game company, and I am saving. My goal someday with the car is 500whp+ as a daily, street, or possibly track on a weekend. People on forums and FB keep saying, "The ONLY place you should get a built motor from is Travis at MT Motorsports," and nothing else matters. I can never get accurate estimates or answers, and most of it seems to be a secret. Meanwhile, the new Supra, C8, and Fairylady Z will be reaching higher horsepower and not keeping secrets.
This isn’t the car for you… I love mine but your goals are out of reach on this platform! I’ll be happy to make 350 reliably on my bk2 2.0… 500 is a dream with all the money and problems you’ll run into you’re better off buying a car that will actually be reliable at 500 hp
You’re talking about engine swaps, and then modding said engines. Yet you are complaining about not having enough cash to build up a 3.8…lol. Buddy I don’t think you know how much an LS engine swap entails or costs, and then to mod one on top of it…Like I don’t want to call you dumb. However this comment you made kind of leads me to that conclusion 🤣🤣🤣😞 Just save up like 5-7 grand. Buy a turbo, intercooler, exhaust, cai, and get a tune for the 3.8. That’d be way cheaper than engine swapping shit.

Any idea what a realiable whp figure would be on stock internals? My goal is to daily drive at around 400. Do able?
400 whp on manual, 350 whp on automatics
@@BTRcarcustoms thank you!
Do I still buy the bk1 o2 housing if I still have the factor turbo. Or bk2
you only buy the bk1 housing if you are using the turbo upgrade outlined in the video
In the commercial they should showed it going past with a flame tune popping and bangin
Hyundai had very weak commercials for the Genesis Coupe, almost felt as if they themselves had no idea how to sell them
Is it better to straight pipe or buy an exhaust system ?
We’ve seen custom exhausts be more restrictive before so using something thats been proven to work is our suggestion
Hey so help me out here. I’m looking to buying a gene but it’s hard whats should I get. A 2.0t or a 3.8
th-cam.com/video/57wsYOknAD8/w-d-xo.html check out this video
if i was to just get the full mxp exhaust setup, how long could that be run without a tune?
if you do a full setup, you can drive on it but most likely will trip turbo overspeed code as the exhaust being opened up allows for a different spool rate on the turbo. if you wanted to run the exhaust without a tune, i would suggest putting on everything minus the o2 housing that way you don't have to worry about the code.
you can always add the o2 housing on when it comes time to tune
Thank you so much! That’s exactly what i ordered, everything but the O2 housing! Just really wanted a better sound for the time being!
quick question i'm at 109k miles 2.0t A/T..... i want to keep the car for a long time what do i have to change
have a mechanic check compression of the engine to see how healthy it is, then do the timing chain so you don't have to worry about it stretching out.
So... just curious why are we not porting the head, upgrading cams, or really anything with internals? I've just bought my 2013 coupe and really want to build the engine
These engines are expensive as hell to build internally unless you do it yourself, which most can’t/won’t do.
@@mito8393 ok makes sense. I grew up rebuilding engines so I am always thinking people into cars did as well.
@@jaysoncrider5431 see, that’s the only area my expertise is lacking. I can do everything else solo, but engine rebuilds are where I have the least experience. I’m gonna buy an old Honda and start there as far as building a block goes.
@@mito8393 yeah no doubt I was doing the 4G63 myself. I got to a point where I could have it out of the car, torn down, cleaned, put together and running in like 8 hours. No power tools all hand wrenches (that sucked.) I've been doing it since I was 16. I'm a mechanic by trade so I get to do what I enjoy but no doubt some cars are the bane of my existence 😂😂
I like how he has all the info laid out for you in a video and shows you what you need. It seems to be legit but i beleve the bk2 at 400+ hp will need some upgraded internals. Ive read about the reliabilty issues when you start pushing 400hp. Other than that this guy is ontop of the right info. Good video!
It does not need internals :) bk2 manuals put down 400+ whp all day every day with proper mods and tune with great reliability
I'd listen to the professional bud! 😉
@@trippleoseven the "professional" lol
@@Chickadee It is his profession. So yes.
@@trippleoseven im confident he is.
Should I buy some aftermarket gauge ?
its not a requirement but nice to have
how much power would all these mods make for a bk2?
Manual would put down 400 whp
Automatic would put down around 360 whp
Would recommend modding a sedan version of the 2014 gene 3.8
Coupe has way more aftermarket support but sedans are really nice when you start to mod them. Just really tough to find parts
Does the BK2 have Forged Internals?
No it does not, but they are stronger than bk1
