I wanted to thank you for sharing this. I installed the same tube on my '19 R/T Shaker and I've been showing it to people in my car groups and telling them about your channel and giving 100% of the credit for the idea to you. Before installing this hose and the MoPar headlight intake tube I put in the headlight grilles from Merrick Motorsports. This step has helped keep out bugs and leaves and even rocks from going into the intake or down the passenger side tube. I routed the hose on mine differently than you did. I ran it in front of the radiator and then straight down because I didn't want to take the chance of any water or more specifically dust and dirt from blowing in and onto the alternator or belts and getting into the engine bay. I live in the desert so dust is more of a threat than rain, but I try hard not to drive my car in the rain anyways. I take my truck instead. Thanks again for posting this! C. Ward N. Las Vegas, NV
Merrick is amazing. Easily the coolest and most original exterior mod I have ever seen on a car. The intake rings are great. I’d love to get more of each color.
Saw this the other day and liked it so well I just bought it for my 2020 Dodge Challenger SXT. You can point the tube any direction you want. Benefit is that water will be directed back on the ground if it gets in the tube and outside air will get directed on engine. Thank You for posting it Work Play Drive.......

You’re making me spend money again! Lol this was a great mod. I just installed one today thanks to you and it looks pretty clean. That spectre tube is pretty strong and very flexible, plus it holds itself in pretty good. I ordered a coupler to clamp it down better. I ran my tube down the passenger side, not over to the right like you did. For some reason I was considering the alternator but it hardly rains and if need be you can reroute it how you like. I’m sure it’ll help with cooling a bit. I just wanted the look of both lights without getting a bunch of grim in the engine bay.
Yeah, i like the air getting in more than it having dust. Its a good idea i guess but I dont have the expensive aluminum covers in mine and wont. It dont rain very often where i live either, but when its 110 degrees out with the AC running, the air will be more beneficial.
I have two factory turbo inlet sized holes in the radiator mount of my 68 coronet RT and just may retro fit these headlights into my car and run some inlet tubes into the headlights…
Honestly the only way I would buy something like this is for it to have a purpose. While driving your vehicle it receives enough air though the grill. Even the hellcats have that extra hole but it’s capped for a reason while the other inlet hole is the intake so if they don’t need it on a blower app why add it to a shaker scat na. Dodge does there homework. Now the only reason I would do this is if the holes routed to the air box like a double ram air otherwise it provides no benefit and actually is just another thing to clean with extra money spent and no functionality. No hate just being real here with everybody and if you like it then great no harm just calling it how it is.
Got me some aftermarket projector lights for my Challenger that we will be installing next week, so I wanted to see what ya guys are doing for this issue. She is a 2010 SRT8 and the new lights are just like the 2015+ model years, so they will have the updated look as well as the air intake ports. Not sure on the factory ones, but these aftermarkets have air induction in both lights and is mainly why I wanted them. Plus they have halos, so l don't have to get any of those now and can't wait to get them on her. I've been doing quite a bit of weight reduction, and am getting ready to order a demon style hood that is made of aluminum. All of them are made of either composite materials or fiberglass, so I was really pleased to find one made of lighter material and is actually aircraft-grade quality. No one has a great selection of carbon, at least not for demon style and is the only one that I've been able to find like it. Also just got new 17" racing wheels with 305x45 MT drag radials on it as well as ultra lightweight braille battery and will be doing a cam with kooks longtubes soon, so ya know that I'm not messin y'all 💪🏼😎
Where can I get these headlights with the center cap that is removable? I have a 2013 and it has the big bulky yellow headlight lens rather than the ring with the removable center.

The T/A does not pull air from the passenger side headlight. The T/A kit pulls air from the hood scoop. check out my video I pop the hood at 9 minutes. th-cam.com/video/by6SmuZU6U8/w-d-xo.html

How do the intake tubes work with your CAI. I rmb u putting the hellcat intake tube in one of your older videos that routed to your Cold air intake. Did u close it off? Does the filter get wet now?
Nope, I'm still using the mopar intake tube open to the air filter. It was never an issue with the original Hellcat tube, but I have not checked on this one.

I'm in NJ just purchased a 1320. Package. So will this work on all challengers. STILL thinking about putting in upgrade CAI. But still getting ups and downs on it. What is your thoughts ?
No this was only necessary for the 2015 and 2016. The 1320s have the lit inlet tubes so the passenger side is capped off. This tube didn’t result in much air cooling off the engine it was more to route the water from spraying everywhere. it can, but it's not worth the effort, you need to down size the pipe to 2" then pass it across the back of the radiator in the hot engine bay. I found it to be too much effort with no reward.
@@WorkPlayDrive that's great man to know and my other question is what do you think the fit will be if I had a 392 intake manifold on my 18 challenger 5.7 with your set up and will I be able to supercharger under their later on with your set up because it looked tight in their already
@@WorkPlayDrive and what about the 392 manifold will that hood still fit sorry for being a pest but love the hood love the Function of air flow and hate to hate to send the money on the hood and not fit shit or have a big scoop that just sits their and dont lead to the air box no more and thank you for your response.
That defeats the purpose of removing the cap in the first place. With the hose, it's not adding air to help cool engine but funneling the air down and out. Maybe putting a thin wire neating over it would help with air intake without getting rain or debris into motor.
@@WorkPlayDrive Isn't it capped stock? So if opening it up doesn't really cool the engine then wtf is the point of this video even? lmao So just leave it stock! hahahah
be ready to replace your serpentine belt and alternator. You do know that the passenger side light on a Hellcat is used as a cooling duct. I think there's either a brake, trans or oil cooler on that side of the car.
@@WorkPlayDrive either way I know there's a cooler in that area of the car. Also I didn't have a plug in my passenger light. There's a tube that leads to the top of what I'm being told is a LTR(low temp radiator).
Hmmm.......I had mine open to the engine bay for a couple years now, engine bay seems top stay pretty clean to me. Seems the way you got it aimed if it does get any water in it, its gonna get sprayed all over the alternator and that cant be good.
no spray, it's the same concept as the Hellcat air intake, The bends will kill the spray and collect it at the bottom of the tube and clean air will flow while the water will drop. ...at least that's the plan ;) the bend in my airbox intake is a lot less severe and does a good job of it.
No issues since install I didn’t see major dirt or water spray like I did with the holes open. I just installed the lit inlet tube so I had to take three hose out for now and modify it to fit with the new setup.
Thank you for making the video after speaking to you before about removing the rear cap off the right Inlet I didn't even think about implications of water or anything like that. So again thank you for thinking for me, only one question was it a little bit of a optical illusion or was the end of the tube hanging directly over one of the accessory pulleys?
yes but all the water mist would collect in the bend and simply drip down into the pan just like the hellcat air intake and only air should be blowing on the area above the alternator.
Yes, you would need to downsize the tube to at least a 2" rigid tube then run it across the front of the engine. By then if not insulated you are now looking at hot air so it's not too worth it. With the hellcat intake and airbox you are already getting more air than is needed.
the driver side is direct to the airbox, the passenger side is not worth it, by the time you down size the pipe and route it across the hot engine bay, it's pushing low pressure warm air. I took the Passenger inlet and pushed it to the front of the engine to pass cool air.
@@WorkPlayDrive thanks for the clarification, I like the lit up air inlets that they have on the Merrick motorsports site, but I would need to grab a separate hellcat intake from back of headlamp to air box then do something like the 3"pipe (spector) pipe away from engine to keep ther dirt and shit off. I plan on grabbing a 2019 redeye hood with the twin snorkel ram air, and then would like to do the headlight intake as well- not that it will probably make much difference but I think it looks Sharpe AF.
Totally agree, the new hoods with the ram air will feed plenty of air into the intake, but if you're going to open up the holes, might was well make them functional ;)
The Driver side headlight intake directly into the air box gives more cold air while in motion, lower intake temperatures and faster cool down from heat soak. The passenger side intake - stops people from constantly telling my my driver side headlight is broken.
Why not just keep the cap on the passenger side headlight air hole? Keeping it open and using a tube to redirect the air, dirt, and water seems like more of a hassle than anything else.
Cool mod literally but not sure how long it took you to get the rubber sleeve into the opening but I'm at an hour plus and it isn't happening just to tight with that close 90 degree turn 😤
The rubber sleeve took less than a minute to insert into the opening. I spent a little time finding the location I wanted to route the tube, but once I figured it out it literally slides right in and the tube is flexible enough to move out of the way.
All good you came across fine ;) With the Driver side working as an active intake you can see the open hole in the Headlight. The passenger side is capped so when you approach the car it appears uneven (triggers my OCD) for people who are not aware of the intake, I've had them tell me my headlight on the driver's side was broken or missing. Removing the cap evens it out, the tube helps keep my engine bay cleaner.
Call me crazy but why not just put the cap back on and close it. You can get a thermostat that will keep your engine cool. I don't really see the point of that .
it's not dumping water onto the alternator, it's dumping it down to the maintenance pan. Getting the air to the intake is not worth the effort. I found a better solution in my latest video, it's a blocking plate with a drain.
On the driver side if you run it to the air box you get faster recovery from heat soak. On the passenger side no benefit other than making them look even to prevent people tell you one of your headlights is broken.
It’s funny you’re worried about the air coming in through the air intake on the headlight area but what about your grill? All that water is being sucked in through your radiator and thrown all over the front of your engine, if you don’t want it getting dirty from the rain don’t drive it in the rain.
Not worried about water coming in, it was the additional time it took to clean that area due to the opening. This was my solution to enjoy my car whenever I want and lower the effort to shine it up for shows.
This is a whole lot of work for nothing. lol At this point just keep the cap on the headlight ffs. Maybe remove the lense at the track OR build something where the passenger side inlet can connect to the intake. This right here is a total waste of time.
I have toe cap off so it looks even, 1 cap on 1 cap off was bugging my ocd. The effort was simply to stop spraying my engine bay. Moving it to the intake is not worth the effort.
I still do not see the point of that tube, it is not providing any cooling benefit, it's not giving you any horsepower, all it's doing is making your engine bay dirty. I don't see any positive outcome to putting a tube like that in your engine bay all you are doing is routing the air so it goes down and does not even hit the engine. Even if it did hit the engine it is providing no cooling benefit whatsoever. That's what your antifreeze is for and your thermostat. If you're worried about keeping your engine cooler just get another thermostat. I can't believe how all these people on this website are agreeing that that is a cool modification. It's a waste of $20 and I just don't got why you put a tube on there if all it's going to do is put water and dirt somewhere where you don't want it. The driver side one I could see if you had a Hellcat airbox but the passenger side is absolutely pointless and I just don't get it. If you think it works or if it benefits more power to you but it's not doing anything I will tell you that. Even the Hellcat airbox provides a tiny bit of horsepower that you cannot even feel maybe about 10 crank horsepower which comes out to about 2 wheel horsepower. If you want to make your car faster save that money for a blower and get a tune but that's the only way I can justify getting more horsepower for your vehicle. I just don't get some of the crap that people come up with. I have a 2019 Scat Pack and there's no way in hell I would put that in my engine bay so water can get everywhere in my opinion and in a lot of mechanics opinion it is doing nothing except making your engine dirty so good luck with that
Agreed it does absolutely nothing to benefit performance, and as I stated in the beginning of the video its an option to keep the engine bay clean by converting the water spray into a controlled drip out the bottom maintenance pan and diverting a little extra airflow into the engine bay. This was not meant to be a performance modification, but a solution to an issue with opening up the inlet tube for whatever purpose the vehicle owner chooses to.
I'm sorry but close the door when it rains open the door when it's sunny invent a deal like open headers closed headers cable operated there ya go get to inventing
Really no need for the effort, the water at this point is minimal and over 4 years has not cause any issues, rust or lasting dirt. Look at the hellcat heat extractors wide open and the water from the hood drains down into them.
Shoot the charger had air operated headlight covers ,air grabber hoods were air operated in sure thers someone out there who can figure something out I've already told ya how to do it now get after it "!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is just for aesthetics because the whole cooling portion is going directly under and out the car at high speed.

The tube held up great where I installed it, I did not have it in contact with the engine or exhaust
@@WorkPlayDrive that's great man to know and my other question is what do you think the fit will be if I had a 392 intake manifold on my 18 challenger 5.7 with your set up and will I be able to supercharger under their later on with your set up because it looked tight in their already
Thats a question for when you select your supercharger.
The air from the opening doesn’t really cool the engine so it’s not really a loss.
@@WorkPlayDrive Isn't it capped stock? So if opening it up doesn't really cool the engine then wtf is the point of this video even? lmao So just leave it stock! hahahah
Having 1 headlight capped and 1 not capped bugged me.
be ready to replace your serpentine belt and alternator. You do know that the passenger side light on a Hellcat is used as a cooling duct. I think there's either a brake, trans or oil cooler on that side of the car.
The passenger side headlight on the hellcat is plugged with a cap, it does not go anywhere.
Any Update on how this worked out for you?
No issues since install I didn’t see major dirt or water spray like I did with the holes open.
I just installed the lit inlet tube so I had to take three hose out for now and modify it to fit with the new setup.
Work Play Drive how did you modify the 3 tube to make it work with the inlet tube, i am wanting to do the same
How does it cool your engine?
It really doesn’t, it just keeps the rain water from spraying on the washer reservoir. I never noticed a difference in temperature.
@@WorkPlayDrive think I will keep the cover on,no need.good video
Thank you for making the video after speaking to you before about removing the rear cap off the right Inlet I didn't even think about implications of water or anything like that. So again thank you for thinking for me, only one question was it a little bit of a optical illusion or was the end of the tube hanging directly over one of the accessory pulleys?
yes but all the water mist would collect in the bend and simply drip down into the pan just like the hellcat air intake and only air should be blowing on the area above the alternator.
Is there any way to bend/extend it so that it goes into the air intake like the normal hellcat intake
Yes, you would need to downsize the tube to at least a 2" rigid tube then run it across the front of the engine. By then if not insulated you are now looking at hot air so it's not too worth it. With the hellcat intake and airbox you are already getting more air than is needed.
@@WorkPlayDrive unless you have a Hellcat.
Thought these air ducts were too be plumbed over to air box? So, it's just for looks?
the driver side is direct to the airbox, the passenger side is not worth it, by the time you down size the pipe and route it across the hot engine bay, it's pushing low pressure warm air.
What’s the benefit of the headlight intake ?
The Driver side headlight intake directly into the air box gives more cold air while in motion, lower intake temperatures and faster cool down from heat soak.
The passenger side intake - stops people from constantly telling my my driver side headlight is broken.
Why not just keep the cap on the passenger side headlight air hole? Keeping it open and using a tube to redirect the air, dirt, and water seems like more of a hassle than anything else.
OCD with making the car look even on both sides.
I just realized you don't have a blower. I have a Hellcat so the 2 intercooler lines run right down next to the alternator.. Time for plan B.. Lol
Fastman
Can you update your plan B
I’m curious because I have a Hellcat and was thinking about doing the same thing
I would have just put the cap back on but maybe I'm missing something 🤔
Don't mean for this to come across as talking s***t
All good you came across fine ;) With the Driver side working as an active intake you can see the open hole in the Headlight. The passenger side is capped so when you approach the car it appears uneven (triggers my OCD) for people who are not aware of the intake, I've had them tell me my headlight on the driver's side was broken or missing. Removing the cap evens it out, the tube helps keep my engine bay cleaner.
@@WorkPlayDrive oh okay yeah that makes sense haha
@@WorkPlayDrive I thought my OCD was bad!... Great job. Thankfully with this mod the wallets will not be in ICU...
Should have sent it to the intake
Like it
Call me crazy but why not just put the cap back on and close it. You can get a thermostat that will keep your engine cool. I don't really see the point of that .
The Did not fit with the headlight rings. And I also didn’t like having one open headlight and one cat headlight did not look even
Still using?
I was until I upgraded to the hellcat.
@@WorkPlayDrive thanks, so with the Hellcat the inlets come both already open correct? Not worth adding the diverter then?
@the_tire_smoker
Nope one is open only.
So you are dumping rain water directly onto your alternator? What is the point, why not pipe it actually to your intake?
it's not dumping water onto the alternator, it's dumping it down to the maintenance pan. Getting the air to the intake is not worth the effort. I found a better solution in my latest video, it's a blocking plate with a drain.
Work Play Drive won’t those blocking plates with the drain still make the passenger side look different from the driver side?
What’s the benefit of removing the caps to let more air in? I’m new to all this so I’m considering should I do this or not 🤔
On the driver side if you run it to the air box you get faster recovery from heat soak.
On the passenger side no benefit other than making them look even to prevent people tell you one of your headlights is broken.
So does the passengers side have to come out looks like the flex tube went in just as far
Our pass
Very interesting. Like #140
It’s funny you’re worried about the air coming in through the air intake on the headlight area but what about your grill? All that water is being sucked in through your radiator and thrown all over the front of your engine, if you don’t want it getting dirty from the rain don’t drive it in the rain.
Not worried about water coming in, it was the additional time it took to clean that area due to the opening.
This was my solution to enjoy my car whenever I want and lower the effort to shine it up for shows.
Do people not realize that stuff comes through the front grill? LoL
Vacuum operated like headlight covers
