To be fair, the internal structure of high end SR Suntour forks are similar to Fox; IFP damper with high and low compression and rebound adjustments, and a self equalizing negative air spring.
Considering that factory settings on a Fox always makes it feel like someone is kicking my handlebars, (Whereas Rockshox tends to work out of the box,) I think I could tell the difference with suspension.
I don’t know which duo I like more. Blake&Martyn vs Blake&Rich. Also keep the hacks and bodges song it’s the highlight of the show, even my wife sings along.
Suspension these days all feel very similar and I bet they feel even more similar if you use the same suspension fluid. Nothing compares to the old Marzocchi tho. True open bath coil with air bottom out support. There's the oil seal that they gave up because of friction but all the new forks have a lot more o rings and quad seals. 😅 Did they really fix a problem or was it all about weight?
They fixed the problem of making more money. Old Marzocchi's never broke or needed $100 service. Oil Bath is always best for reliability. Cartridge forks perform better but need more maintenance.
I’d say Fox and Rockshox (and Marzocchi) feel similar. I think Rockshox feels better overall but has less adjustment in terms of getting it dialed in, while Fox has finer adjustments I actually prefer Marzocchi to Fox just because it is easier to set and forget. That being said Öhlins feels very different to any other suspension I’ve ridden. It was easier to dial in and is better both off the top and at the end of the stroke. If I had to rank the suspension I’ve ridden it would go Öhlins, Rockshox, Marzocchi, Fox, Manitou. The last manitou suspension I rode was a little old so it is probably way better now.
talking about high end parts i would say if you are not professional that need every % of performance and still want to buy high end to feel good you focus on looks to be more happy when you stare at your bike
That depends what you mean by professional. I can definitely tell a difference in my high end suspension and I break cheaper stuff and it's worth suspension or parts not failing causing you to wreck and have thousands of medical bills
Are there some terrible forks out there? Yes. But nearly everything over $500 is overpriced. I've ridden $500 forks that felt better than $1000 forks. I feel that most Rock Shox give you pretty good bang for your buck, meanwhile most Fox forks are way overpriced. SR Suntour and Manitou make some amazing forks at great prices, unfortunately most people relate those brands to their entry-level offerings, when in fact they have a whole range of products, many of which are amazing.
Recently picked up the last gen KIS Spectral, with rockshox select + RC and going from the spectral to my old hardtail with lowest end charger damper and debonair air chamber and it is night and day. Shimano brakes are also more bitey than sram I find
These 2 guys are the best pair ever!! I absolutely LOVED this episode!!! My husband wanted to call my dog sprocket and I just called him Blake instead 😜😜 love you guys!
What about DVO? They have some nice looking stuff, they are out of southern Ca. They offer custom tuned/built shocks. I was checking out the Jade rear coil. For an additional price they can build and tune it to your weight, terrain, riding style and the model bike you have. I havent seen that with other susp companies.
I have rock shox silver recons on many of my mtbs, a rock shox psylo on my heavy tools and a rock shox sid gold race on my gary fisher. The recon silver tk solor air is a very good allround fork due to its solor air spring which is adjustable and is solid due to its 32mm steel stanchions
FOX 36 GRIP 2 160mm fork for the win. They make my local trails feel very nice! Riding a Specialized STEVO and its been the best ride since starting this hobby 2 years ago.
Just switched from a fox 38 performance elite to a Zeb ultimate, both on a giant reign. Hard to describe but they do feel different, the Fox being more precise and supportive on the big stuff and the Zeb being much plusher and more sensitive. Quite the opposite to what the reviews say 😅
Budget Fox forks (OEM Rhythm) are very good. But budget RockShox 35 Silver/Gold are terrible, especially after a handful of rides, like the bushings are toast. Highend Fox and Rock Shox are all good.
Only thing I found out based off tons of research fox factory has more adjustability but both are great RockShox ultimate not their lower end stuff but the most important thing was I heard fox supports their suspension for up to 10 years where RockShox is more innovative not a dealbreaker but can cost a lot more if you own RockShox suspension but I know sram will find their comfort zone when they find what works for them and up there service on their suspension products may take awhile
Hi gmbn I’m 12 years old and saving up for a full suspension bike I really love what you do and I am just so annoyed at the price of bikes these days it’s to expensive and I just want a good full suspension bike your videos are amazing thanks a lot ❤❤
My marzi 888 with very fine tuning and upgraded internals. (Still half the price of the roxshocks) feels just as good as any roxshocks ive ever ridden. And fox from factory are set up for giants i think cause theyre always so damn stiff and have to be tuned. But fox in the long run is best. Not only are they plush like the rest of the brands. But stronger.
What would people say is the best budget brand hardtail? I rode a carrera code disk from Halfords I paid £280 brand new, I’ve been to a few bike parks and mountains range in and around south wales and it performs pretty well. But would like better brakes and 1 by gearing system.
To me, the Atherton S170 has very similar geo to the Santa Cruz Nomad V5 but with a 29" front wheel - (size 7 = L and 11 + XL) and heavier, and more expensive. I'd rather have a carbon Nomad thanks.
I bought both of the highest top of the line most recommended DJ forks and they both epic fail so quickly its ridiculous. Sent them into the "top shops" and they come back working like crap. I finally just now bought the one everyone says sucks (the manitou circus expert) and hoping it works much better than the "best". My friend has a set and has never serviced them and theyre like 4 years old...so jealous
The suspension ones you can get away with as you were only thinking it had to be between fox and rockshox and they gave you SR Suntour and manitou obviously you would get that wrong as wasn't in the description lol
@EMTB17 WOW, so much negativity, in many of your past comments. It's TH-cam. Entertainment is the point here. Didn't your Mom teach you to keep your mouth shut unless you have something positive to say? Useless is your negativity, guy. If you don't like GMBN, turn the channel. Be kind man. I wish you the best though. Life is beautiful.
For a long time now, I've been wondering how long a lugged bike would hold together, considering their $13,000+ price tag. Well, Bernard Kerr's crash the other day in New Zealand on his lugged Pivot answered that. He had had the bike about 1-1/2 yrs before the frame separated from the lugged headset. If that had happened at Red Bull Hardline, it could've been disastrous. Personally, you couldn't get me to ride a lugged bike, if you paid me. I expect my bikes to last at least 10 years w/o killing me, especially at today's prices.
Just getting into mountain biking and while rhe first segment was entertaining I have no idea what the outcome was. Other then that you they could identify their own bikes. The feel and vibe of the show feels like it could be to biking what Top Gear was to cars. It just needs to be a little more accessible to riders of all levels.
I think for the layperson, telling the difference between suspension is hard because we probably haven't compared them much. If we've changed brands, it's possibly during a bike swap since it's so expensive to buy the kit just to try. I've swapped brakes over though on bikes because it's far cheaper and controversially, my old Avids were better than the Shimano XT's that I "upgraded" to because the calliper leaked at the rear and I had zero braking back there.
Brakes and shifters are too easy. Suspension is easy too if you ride it. At very high pressure RS is jittery, but Fox is still progressive and damps well. Also RS has no full lockout, which would be a dead giveaway even parked.
I can notice when suspension doesnt have high speed compression / rebound. Roots and rocks kind of become a game of luck. Well, not really but you know what i mean.
"why wouldn't you?". Because no one is giving me one and I'm not spending £6k+. Guess I'll have to get fit instead On that note, riding there Wednesday nights through winter

I have a Marzocchi Bomber Z1 on my 2019 Felt Compulsion 1, RS Zeb 190mm on my 2021 YT Capra AL, and a Fox 38 on my 2024 YT Decoy. Love them all. Really Impressed with the Z1 as it is as stout as the 38mm stanchion forks.
#CAPTIONCONTEST With the high cost of bikes, Rich & Blake plan a heist to steal them. Being amateurs, they never got the cover-your-face part quite right and in the end, they ended up stealing each other's bikes.
Do you think you could guess bike parts without looking?
Some forks and brakes do have that characteristic feel no matter how you setup those. Or rather did - people like 'em more predictive now
The ones I already tried probly, especially the saggy droppers ...
Certain ones absolutely but not forks ha.
no
I think I will recognize my XT brakes and shifters, but for the rest no way that I would have a clue.
I laughed so hard at 3:20 Blake was guessing Fox as he was struggling between Fox and RockShox in his head but it turned out to be a Suntour!
To be fair, the internal structure of high end SR Suntour forks are similar to Fox; IFP damper with high and low compression and rebound adjustments, and a self equalizing negative air spring.
or maybe it is Manitou dorado.
