Facts Todays racers bikes are all about even in performance. It’s pushed the young rides to new heights. Fun to watch. At 52 we didn’t even imagine we’d do the things people do on modern bikes
Theres a couple jump trails near me that the council built, was there a few months ago when it was pretty busy. This kid about 11 or 12 was on an absolute shitter of a bike, best rider there by miles, his whips were proper sideways on tiny jumps, impressive.
That's definitely true. Dude took a Walmart fully rigid to Whistler and rode it a whole day. But they're talking about DH racing. And the rider is absolutely the biggest part of winning, but the bikes matter as well. The gains made of just a few seconds can be the difference between winning and losing. It can be the difference between a podium and not. The points can be the difference at the end of the season.
90% pilot 10% bike. Always. Some names were named in examples. However. Im 100% confident, that man right there, Blake, is also one of those legends that can shred anything. No doubt.
As the GCN+ (I miss it a lot) video Retro vs Modern covered by Simon Richardson highlighted, in road cycling 80% of the aerodynamics are the rider and 20% the bike. This thumb rule could apply to off-road cycling as well, in a general case. Cycling performance is probably 80% the rider and 20% the bike. Assuming that the off-road racers are effectively worth 75 to 80% points then that 20% points for the bike are critical. But for everyone else (5 to 75% points) the bike (1 to 20% points) are less relevant. The exception to my thumb rule is my fat tire bikes on snow, ice, mud, and rocks larger than my fist. In eastern Idaho sometimes all bikes stop except for a fat tire bike.
Course seems to have played the biggest role in Poland, it does play a huge role everywhere else too. How conditions changed as track dried out, what are proportions of fast and technical sections, is there even a rock garden demanding of heavier tyres, etc. Many good runs earlier in the day lacked early acceleration, for some later on it gave false confidence in the woods, and in the end of the day we saw brute force of pure speed dominate, while tech and skill almost caught up but just missed a bit.
@@MehYam2112 the 🥧 filling (cyclist) defines the 🥧 (🚵) more than the crust (🚲), I think. But the pie filling (cyclist) alone or crust (🚲) alone isn't a 🥧 (🚵).
Yep Pilgrim is an absolute master of all disciplines on any kind of bike. His bike skills are insane. Literally a handful of riders of his calibre world wide. I would say Seminuk, Goldstone, Pilgrim, Kade Edwards and no doubt a few others are in a league of their own 🤩🤌
I've heard the same conversation about driver vs. car in Formula 1 where a lot of fans think that Max Verstappen is the best driver because he wins most of the time. But the truth is that the Red Bull car he drives is a better than the others. I'd say he's an excellent driver on the best car. Note that a car that is only 0.5% faster will have a 26 second advantage by the end of the race!
A good bike can’t make a shitty rider good - we all know that. But a bad bike can make a good rider comparatively bad. Yes, a good rider will be able to extract 100% out of a bad bike, but there will be a limit based on the bike. Therefore if you have two riders of equal ability, the bike becomes the factor. It seems popular to say it is the rider, but the bikes are just as important, whether we admit it or not.
Hi guys ..great show and yes let's see Blake in that bike ... And someone needs to check the spelling at the bottom of the page..@16.32 😅 someone put Kate instead of Katie
Sticking to the topics within the video. (I enjoy watching the channel) At 9:00 minutes in, they mention "woke" type culture. Woke has a context, unfortunately the term is applied to far more topic than it's meant to be applied too. I am Scottish and Irish from my dad's side. But my mom is South Korean. So I am basically a typical mixed American. In America, which is not to say that diversity doesn't exist in the UK. So to correct the terms usage, the term comes from African American Culture. It is a slang term. It is short for "aware", it is for the idea of being awake about the problems of racial disparity. It also applies to the idea of segregation here in America. So the idea is that we are all equals, and that our rights as American citizens do not apply to race. Some might say, no, we have no issues with racial prejudice. Others who do not deny that the problem exists are awake. Or woke. That is what woke is. So if we do not support being woke, without saying it, or not knowing it, you support the idea that racism doesn't even exist. Racism is not recognized. It's there, that's just how things are, no one cares. Why bring it up, be quiet. Basically asleep to a fact. It's invisible. They know, but we don't. No offense, I still like the channel.
wish you would give out free shipping or discounts for good entries with the caption contest or uploads. I'm losing faith that all entries are even considered.
Haven't even made it through the ad yet but seriously if you have seen Sam Pilgrim's cheap bike challenge then you'd already know the amswer

GIANT mudguards for the bike vault getting Super Nice wow, seeing pigs fly and angels singing hacks and bodges.
It’s definitely the rider that makes the difference! Great to see a “full shed” show!!!
How important do you think bike tech is for racing?

Is it the pie crust, or the filling? Without both it isn’t a pie innit

I was there, what an event! All the riders were cool and signed my son's book. Some top people there. Sam Pilgrim is a legend...

Bike up until skill and confidence catches up, and then it’s the rider.
I’m assuming they’re talking about jack moir on the old Canyon Strive. That bike was notoriously bad.
If you go back in time before the first intense in DH things were really bad all around 💀🤣
So the winning margin in the downhill. Is the standard width of a mountain bike handlebars.
The rider 100%! Ronan said he was going to win or be taken of the mountain in a helicopter! All or nothing!😎
