Best part was the live Polynesian music that tou walked by. By the way, I like the authenticity that tou bring to the table and some info that you describe while others only show the killing views. As sailors we know that those picture perfect locations are breathtaking but there is an entire logistic behind it. Thanks for sharing and Alohaaaa
Hey James, glad you were able to find someone who could give you the low-down on anchoring in Bora Bora! The water there is so blue and that sunset was amazing! Great info and video, thanks for sharing! May fair winds be with you! 🌬⛵
James, I began watching your channel when you made your crossing to Hawaii. I have to confess that I have missed a few since then. That sounds like a video binge for next week. I just subscribed to your channel. You produce really good content in your videos. Thank you for sharing. Cheers! Blue Skies! Faithfully, James
Thank you for this video. Bora Bora has been, and still is, the place of my dreams for decades, ever since I watched a TV series that was set there. Hopefully I’ll get there one day 👍🏻
Hell yeah! That's great news regarding anchorage in Bora Bora for boats under 30'. Now you can enjoy your time there. One less thing to worry about. Sweet.
Cool video. Nice details. The orange cruise ship tender, the strategically placed welcoming musicians, then the gift shop.... I recognize it all; I've been on a few cruises with my in laws. You're stuck on this huge ship, it's like being in a shopping mall where all the stores you might be interested in are missing. (The food gets really tedious, but it's limitless.) On board, you can buy the exact same stuff that was in that gift shop on Bora Bora, and you can only buy the exact same stuff. Every port of call is the same. (Except the 'terrible art' sale night on board.) On my first cruise with the family to Hawaii I thought, I'll just buy a ball point pen and note book when I'm on board. Impossible. The concierge offered me three sheets of paper - no more. And, sorry this is my only pen. Then the boat anchors or docks. On shore? 6 - 8 hours: 45 minutes to wait in line, exit the ship, walk to the van. Then the tour, hike the volcano, then back to the dock 90 minutes before the gangplank is pulled up. (You don't dare risk trying to walk a mile to the shops.) Two weeks of this. It was okay... Someone on shore is going to figure out what people on these ships might really want, they're going to make a lot of money until the cruise ship notices (and puts a stop to it.) It won't be cheap jewelry, colorful scarves and t-shirts. I have to sail to Bora Bora, you and Triteia have been there, my boat has even been there! I've got a photo of her (at anchor!) SE of the big squared off side of Mt Otemanu. The last cruise I went on 17 years ago, to Mexico. What I remember best is getting off and just walking around, saying hello to people, being nosy.
Was there in '86 and stayed at the Club Med. Probably the most beautiful place I ever visited, Motu Tapu for snorkeling!! Bloody Mary's Restaurant was neat place to have dinner.
Amazing! Your channel found me on your way to Hawaii. Now here I’m seeing you make the walk into Vaitape, one I made just 10 days ago. We are planing on having our own sailboat in four years. Snorkeling the cuts to the southwest of the airport was definitely some of the best we have seen in a while. I hope you have the opportunity to film the Manta in the lagoon, what majestic creatures. We wish you an amazing adventure here and everywhere the wind takes you.. New Sub.
Hi James..new subscriber here...and i dont sail and never could but i find your channel interesting and i like your take charge attitude on life and living life to the fullest! Just be careful out there man..there isnt much that scares me but all alone on a 30ft sailboat in the middle of the Pacific might do the trick! When you took a swim all by yourself in the middle of the Pacific i was like Ok this guy is crazy AF! But more power to you!! Will keep watching for sure!!
Lynn Pardee always thought small boats were better for cruising, especially for single handers. You should get a cheap bug sprayer and fill it with water to wash your anchor chain for when you bring bring it up. You can, also, use it to clean your deck or shower with on deck.
@Sailing Triteia You know your boat better than I ever will but what I'm thinking of is no bigger than a 3 gallon jerry can and has a hand pump. No electricity.
Hi James, been watching some of your journey for a while, thanks for taking us along! Just wanted to say you have some B- - -S to sail around the big Pacific on your own! I wonder if you are intending to visit the Cook Islands, I have been lucky enough to have spent a couple of weeks on Rarotonga, my idea of paradise. I wish you fair seas and happiness. Alex
Hey there James, can you explain why you "float" your anchor chain and the proper procedure for doing so?....another awesome video!....kepp up the great adventure!
You want to float your chain when you are in coral rich waters to keep the chain from damaging and getting wrapped around coral bommies. I first learned about it on SV Soggy Paws website. Here’s an article about the process: www.cruisingworld.com/how-to/hands-on-sailor-floating-your-anchor-chain/
Not heard good things about Bora Bora for cruisers, but having a 9m boat sure helps. Looks a spectacular and well protected island, and the clip you showed of next episode, looks stunning. Got to be turquoisier (don't think that's a word) than the Exhumas!
My envy for you is at the moon level. The sights you must see on and off the water must be amazing and terrifying at the same time. A true explorer you are Captain.
Another winner video, thumbs up and keep on grooving. Looking forward to the next chapter. I know you basically live on pasta lol but do you ever buy local food?
As a Catalina 25 starter-boat owner myself, I encourage you to go for it. The C25 owners association forums are an amazing resource, I understand the Facebook groups are good too but I do not Face the Book anymore so I can’t say for sure. Just a wealth of advice, information, and encouragement from folks who know sailing and know these boats is a click away, makes them a great choice to start with IMO. Fair winds!
@@SailorJames you were cleaning your anchor chain, you lay down chain on starboard side and port side. One on port side didn’t need cleaning because you don’t use it much, why ? Thank you
As a knowledge worker who is stuck in front of a computer and lives in an apartment, cleaning off an anchor chain on the deck of a yacht under the open sky sounds like hard but blissful work.
curious about those morring rules if your boat is 33.8 feet...... im guessing if i were to be out there on Ciao we would be screwed based on BARELY being over 33 ft. ahahahhah
Congrats on actually going for your dreams! Enjoy the content but brother have your throat checked out. It seems like you might have a problem you’re always clearing it. Good luck
the more of these sailing channels I watch the less inclined I am to go sailing even though at this stage I could literally buy a sailboat with cash as opposed to back in the day, building one would have been the only option. Just looks SO boring ngl.
Bro, I sailed to these islands from Los Angeles… with sails… on a sailboat… when a sailor gets to an island… by sailing… he walks around and enjoys the paradise that he…. Sailed to.

Another delightful show ❤😂🎉!
A brave vintage boat captain's tour of upper class Bora 🌺 Showing us boat lifts made out of sticks and trees. You are a true explorer 🥇

Wow, this really changes my attitude towards having a smaller boat !
Love your vids dude , your an inspiration bro, awesome, living the dream
glad you met a cool anchor guy - well done them
🙂 Yay. Little boat advantage at Bora Bora.
Great video!
Rinsing out that Stanker Locker : )
Thanks always look forward to your videos I could watch this for hours
Ahhhh! I’m jealous of the small boat !
It’s rare that small boats have the upper hand 😂

Bloody Mary’s was amazing! I visited it a week or so later !

Yeah it’s a wild life for sure, I am glad you are enjoying the videos 🙏🏻 thanks for watching
James, if you want to be extra green with your chain cleaning, just use white vinegar. It will help kill the growth and it’s super safe.
Another Great video 👍 hope to see you in the Philippines
Can you do a video on your dingy setup? Specifically what you have and what it takes to travel with it and to deploy it and to retrieve it
My dinghy set up is very basic, but maybe I will do a bonus episode showing how I deploy it and retrieve it solo 👍🏻

I have no room to stow such a tool, space is very limited in a small boat
@Sailing Triteia You know your boat better than I ever will but what I'm thinking of is no bigger than a 3 gallon jerry can and has a hand pump. No electricity.

I had a fantastic time there
Oh lord I’m asking you to make this my life 🙏🏼💜🔮💜
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
What kind of temperatures are you experiencing in these islands (air and water)?
That water looks so inviting.
Thanks for another beautiful view!
Seas the day!
My envy for you is at the moon level. The sights you must see on and off the water must be amazing and terrifying at the same time. A true explorer you are Captain.
Exploring by Sailboat? Deja-vu.
Is this comedy?
Another winner video, thumbs up and keep on grooving. Looking forward to the next chapter. I know you basically live on pasta lol but do you ever buy local food?
I only live on pasta at sea, I eat out locally every chance I get and try all the fish dishes on the various islands
Hey James. What's the point of having that anchor float?
It’s so the chain won’t damage the coral.
Dope videos. What are your thoughts on a Catalina 25 to get me started live in Florida. Loved the water since I was a boy
Catalina 25 would be great starter boat. I met a couple on a Catalina 36 in Fiji that had sailed from Florida and are now in Australia.
As a Catalina 25 starter-boat owner myself, I encourage you to go for it. The C25 owners association forums are an amazing resource, I understand the Facebook groups are good too but I do not Face the Book anymore so I can’t say for sure. Is there a free anchor area on bora bora for 50/60 feet boats?
Yes 3 different anchorages but you can only stay for 36 hours at each anchorage
Are you allowed to use a fishing pole to catch fish while anchoring on your boat next to those islands?
You can’t fish in the lagoons of the South Pacific because of ciguatera poisoning
Your videos instantly relax me. Let us know when you will motor up the Otago harbour in Newzealand.
Happy to hear it 👍🏻
why the port side anchor chain is not use much ? thank you
I don’t understand your question
@@SailorJames you were cleaning your anchor chain, you lay down chain on starboard side and port side. One on port side didn’t need cleaning because you don’t use it much, why ? Thank you
Oh, it has to do with the depths of water I was regularly anchoring it. Since the lagoons there were shallow not as much chain was dirty
From now on we will call it the St. James anchorage
What's the benefit of the 5:1 scope if you just float the chain anyway...???
Because if the winds increase to the point where you need the 5:1 the floats sink and the scope does it’s job
@@SailorJames That's smart.
Large manta rays in that lagoon !!!
I didn’t see any mantas here but swam with some in Tikohau and on the island of Hawaii, magical creatures
Will yoube visiting the Philippines?

There are worse chores in worse locals 😂
How's it 🤙🤙🤙
James are going the world on this boat?
Yes I am circumnavigating
@@SailorJamesHave you thought of including the Great Lakes via the St. Lawrence seaway?
Those waters in the free-zone seem really nice. I never noticed you needed a floater for your chain. Awesome stuff man!
Let’s get this man an updated logo with 2023 on it!
This wasn’t filmed in 2023
@@SailorJames Where are you now if you don’t mind me asking?
@@Sm0kEyX420 he said he has been in New Zealand and is moving on to Australia now.

I believe there called boat gallows james. They want you to stick around and spend some dough. Don't forget what happened to steve Irwin.
are you coming to new zealand

Not for you partner.
Ruined I guess 100 years ago. There’s appalling traffic and noise, horrible.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Bet you wish you were back in Bora Bora as another system trashes NZ..hope you’re hunkered down somewhere safe..
Yeah it’s been wild, I am riding out this storm in a safe spot, been getting lots of editing and writing done with all the storms lately
You said , it wil take 5 days to Bora Bora, where is the sailing part ? You start to make travel trip videos what hardly have to do with sailing, pity
