- In the Quran, Allah SWT mentions that the Sabiqun (the forerunners) will be the nearest to Him in the Hereafter. The Sabiqun are those who excel beyond others in their righteousness and love of doing good deeds - they are the 'VIPs' of the Hereafter.
Can we ever become of the Sabiqun? What if we've sinned in the past? Does this eliminate our chances of reaching this status? Allah SWT also mentions that we should hasten towards His forgiveness and His Paradise. What does this competition actually look like?

True. I also believe some are born different and have different capacity. Allah test us Differently, some with more and some with less. Therefore my own experience is that of the lesser but better then million. But those who succeed say we did it with our own effort and we made it. They should step in our shoes and see how it feels to have doors closed and when nothing works for you when ever where ever you go you find only failure. So I suggest be thankful for what you have gotten and live for what we have been sent to do. I feel this is much more easier to realize for those who haven't made it than those who have.
As for hard work you can't work harder than the guy who breaks rocks all day but earns a days meal. Alhumdulillah even for that.

As a person who used to do some efforts to get good grades in school and got them,I used to see someone who'd made more efforts than me but still fail to achieve that goal.
When in college/Uni- I used to do minimal efforts but still get good scores.
My intention is not to brag abt me,but it really heartbreaking to see a friend of mine(whom worked really hard-I taught him some of the subjects he's struggling with)
worked harder than anyone else but still got bad grades.
To me,it's Allah's mercy that I can just do the efforts and get what I want and I do offer help where I can.
It's true that not everyone's efforts eventhough they'd worked hard enough will achieve their target.
Those whom Allah has blessed i.e like me should be very grateful.
Maybe Allah gave them in other ways that we don't know.

Im from South Africa, my mom's SA and my dad's Indian. I didn't grow up in a restrictive environment. So when finding myself in India, I immediately notice this culture of copycats. Nothing wrong with the intelect, it's just the mindset that sets so many people up for failure.

The Prophet (ﷺ) used to teach us the Istikhara for each and every matter as he used to teach us the Suras from the Holy Qur'an. (He used to say), "If anyone of you intends to do something, he should offer a two-rak`at prayer other than the obligatory prayer, and then say: 'Allahumma inni astakhiruka bi'ilmika, wa astaqdiruka biqudratika, wa as'aluka min fadlika-l-'azim, fa innaka taqdiru wala aqdiru, wa ta'lamu wala a'lamu, wa anta'allamu-l-ghuyub. Allahumma in kunta ta'lamu anna hadha-lamra khairun li fi dini wa ma'ashi wa 'aqibati `Amri (or said, fi 'ajili `Amri wa ajilihi) fa-qdurhu li, Wa in kunta ta'lamu anna ha-dha-l-amra sharrun li fi dini wa ma'ashi wa 'aqibati `Amri (or said, fi ajili `Amri wa ajilihi) fasrifhu 'anni was-rifni 'anhu wa aqdur li alkhaira haithu kana, thumma Raddani bihi," Then he should mention his matter (need).
حَدَّثَنَا مُطَرِّفُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَبُو مُصْعَبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبِي الْمَوَالِ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ قَالَ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم يُعَلِّمُنَا الاِسْتِخَارَةَ فِي الأُمُورِ كُلِّهَا كَالسُّورَةِ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ " إِذَا هَمَّ بِالأَمْرِ فَلْيَرْكَعْ رَكْعَتَيْنِ، ثُمَّ يَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْتَخِيرُكَ بِعِلْمِكَ، وَأَسْتَقْدِرُكَ بِقُدْرَتِكَ، وَأَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ الْعَظِيمِ، فَإِنَّكَ تَقْدِرُ وَلاَ أَقْدِرُ، وَتَعْلَمُ وَلاَ أَعْلَمُ، وَأَنْتَ عَلاَّمُ الْغُيُوبِ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنَّ هَذَا الأَمْرَ خَيْرٌ لِي فِي دِينِي وَمَعَاشِي وَعَاقِبَةِ أَمْرِي ـ أَوْ قَالَ عَاجِلِ أَمْرِي وَآجِلِهِ ـ فَاقْدُرْهُ لِي، وَإِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنَّ هَذَا الأَمْرَ شَرٌّ لِي فِي دِينِي وَمَعَاشِي وَعَاقِبَةِ أَمْرِي ـ أَوْ قَالَ فِي عَاجِلِ أَمْرِي وَآجِلِهِ ـ فَاصْرِفْهُ عَنِّي وَاصْرِفْنِي عَنْهُ، وَاقْدُرْ لِيَ الْخَيْرَ حَيْثُ كَانَ، ثُمَّ رَضِّنِي بِهِ. وَيُسَمِّي حَاجَتَهُ ".

وَإِذَا سَأَلَكَ عِبَادِي عَنِّي فَإِنِّي قَرِيبٌ ۖ أُجِيبُ دَعْوَةَ الدَّاعِ إِذَا دَعَانِ ۖ فَلْيَسْتَجِيبُوا لِي وَلْيُؤْمِنُوا بِي لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْشُدُونَ ﴿١٨٦﴾
Nafal hajaat and istakhara seems like a forgotten sunnah. Prophet s a used to teach istakhara as he taught Quran.
When we can hate a thing thats good for us and love a thing thats bad for us, why trust own aqal and not do istakhara.
Find own passion and talent gifted by Allah polish it and take up a direction that Allah guides to. In sha Allah. Differently useful doesnt mean useless. A car with the best engine is no good without tyres. Everyone has a role.
