500 miles is amazing. Now I want to see what kind of range it gets in normal daily-type driving with Kyle driving. If it can get 375+, I may pick one of these up in a few years lightly used. It amazes me that Tesla has 10 years head start on Lucid, and they come out and in less than a handful of years they push out a 500 mile vehicle. It'll be exciting to see what Lucid can do in the next few years.
Its all about cost. Tesla could put even bigger battery in a Model S and match this. The question is how much more would it cost and would it be usefull to pack around that extra weight for most drives. No knock on Lucid they are definitely targeting a very high scale market. At this point they are not even tring to make a product that can make money.
I'd love to see a 500 mile Model S. But a 400 mile Model S at $50k less (!) than the Air GT stacks up pretty well. I'm not sure how much market there is for $120k sedans.
I hope so but phone makers keep choosing cost (and thinness) over battery capacity and I am afraid car makers will do the same. If they can keep range the same with smaller, cheaper batteries, that is probably what they will choose rather than giving us more range out of the same size battery. I really hope I am wrong because this kind of range makes charging infrastructure a non-issue. I regularly drive from Atlanta to upstate NY, about 900 miles, with a stop overnight to sleep and charge back up to 100%. If I did that trip with this Lucid, I would never have to DC fast charge at all.
@@meandmyEVwell there were some phones that had huge batteries, but noone bought them since for most people, 2 days battery life is enough ;) Same with EVs, very few people actually have an advantage of such a range and the 50k over a Model S or 100k or more above a Model 3 wouldnt be worth it for me to maybe stop one time less in a year. Most will stop to eat or use restrooms in such a trip multiple times anyways. I thought I needed a lot of range and bough a Model 3, but honestly most of my driving, including trips I can do in our Mini SE as well. Doing 800 miles in a day in the Tesla is not an issue. I never drove this much in my ICE vehicle.
When I load something low/flat onto my lowboy trailer, I like to put the tongue jack down and raise the front several inches to decrease the angle at the top of the loading ramps to minimize scraping of something important.
Sensational car!! Bravo Lucid 👏. Some might think that 500 mile range is not important but when you factor in ideal charging and discharging rate to maximise battery life; there goes 20% at least and a bit of spirited driving; you'll be left with probably a conservative 350 miles range. Apply the same to a car with a maximum range of 350 miles; now you're dealing with a 200-mile range; real world driving. For people who mainly charge at home or have poor access to a public charging network, such cars are ideal.
Doesn’t the cybertruck have vehicle to vehicle charging capability ? I thought you might be able to charge the Lucid a bit after it died just to get it to the charging station and save the trouble of loading a trailer.
You are one of the only guys I really like and enjoy watching videos online because you are so nice tbh, nice range test how does lucid compare to the big brother ? Model s Tesla
That is amazing. I have a question on this test is it better to turn off Regen on the highway or have it at its lowest or auto, I wonder for vehicles like the Ioniq 5 which has many Regen tests and does it make a difference?
I think people mostly think about how they only need range far enough for bathroom/eat type charging stop. However, there are definitely some charging deadzones in rural areas that aren’t anywhere near interstates. I have family in very rural areas and some of them there’s no way I could get to and back in even a Tesla. Maybe if I tried to find a business with 249v, but that’s just annoying and super inconvenient. With this kind of range, you can actually go most places in the US without really having to think about it too much. Especially in 2025 when they move to NACS and can get on the supercharger network. This thing will definitely be on my list in 2025.
Doing some quick math, it should get 700 miles at 60mph, which is insane. I love my Rivian, but I drive so much I wish it could do 500 miles instead of the ~300 it gets.
Very nice job 👍. But the biggest thing is that most of us can't afford it. What really is needed a 30k 300 miles Bolt type for us retired road tripper folks.
You're in luck. The KIA EV3 will be launching in 2025. Similar size to a Bolt but it has a 81.4kwh gross battery versus the Bolts ~67kwh battery. EV3 is more aerodynamic, has better thermal management, and overall should be more efficient than the already efficient Bolt. It will also have a heat pump available for FWD models and AWD performance model releasing later. Bolt is rated at 4 miles/kwh. I expect a 4-4.3 miles/kwh rating for the EV3 on the newer/stricter EPA test. Assuming 77kwh is usable, that would equate to 308-330 mile EPA range rating. So the highway range should be around 275 miles which is good for a car starting between 30-35K before the tax credit. Charging is also WAY faster than the Bolt. I believe they are claiming 10-80% in 31 minutes which is less than half the time it took the Bolt to do 10-80% on a much smaller battery. EV3 is a perfect replacement for the Bolt. Especially since it allows for bidirectional charging, and many features the Bolt didn't have. Performance is similar to the bolt with a 0-60 under 7 seconds based on some reviews in Korea. Also passenger space is excellent but cargo space is smaller than the Bolt which is the only downside I see.
@@Cyrribrae it's been released in Korea for a month or so. Owners have already taken delivery and are doing reviews. Seems to be solid and very efficient like all the other Korean FWD EVs. Plenty of people are reporting 350+ miles of real world range in lower speed suburbs/city driving. I'm guessing 260 miles of range at 75mph and right under 300 miles of highway range @70mph for the FWD long range models
Lucid should make one with half the battery with like 300miles at a half a price which is enough considering charging network in us. Their efficiency should be used to grab more market
Wow, that is beautiful. 516 rated 510.5 actual not bad. Not bad at all. And if you were to do the same test City driving style that might be somewhere between 600 and 700+ range Great job bro. Keep up the great work. Have a good one. Catch you on the next one lucid telling all the EV manufacturers hold my beer LOL And from 100% to 0% 523.7 mi 118 KW hours. Beautiful stuff Could you imagine if this bad boy had a Silverado battery in it? It will be like the Energizer Bunny going and going and going LOL
This tech will allow a sub$40k EVs. 4.4 miles per KwH will allow really small batteries with decent daily range. Smaller batteries = cheaper cars. Lucid is doing good work.
What's with the chick bot commentators on this video. Good for the algorithm i guess. Love the content on this channel. Wish every car had a similar charging curve like this - it's a monster under the right conditions with a charging dispenser that's not limiting the car.
Glad to see that range anxiety is becoming a thing of the past. Now all we need is for these companies to get on the same page as Tesla when it comes to charging network placement and reliability.
If only they offered a light colored interior up front. We bought a Model S since Lucid only offers dark interiors up front. Such a shame their interior color options are so arrogant.
Do you understand the meaning of buffer in this context. it is the point in which the fuel gauge says it is (empty) but keeps going. Some concept exists with gas cars.
@@summertyme5748 buffer is the difference between gross capacity and net capacity (usable battery). In this test it shows that it is above 118kWh usable. The gross capacity is as I understand 119kWh. But it said 118 quite some time. The first generation e-tron had 8% buffer. (95/83.6). It stopped when you had used 83.6 Some cars have a non linear SOC rating and have much larger percent from 0-1% than 1-2%.The lucid is an example of that, but it is not a buffer, but some call it a zero buffer. But is is usable so it does not protect battery.
It’s how the estimated range is displayed vs. actual range. It will always be conservative. So whatever the final number is here, Lucid already knows the buffer.
Have you ever or do you ever plan to do a series of tests that test range at different speeds? What's the range of an EV at 30 mph? 40mph? 50 mph? Etc.
Just report on the miles per kWh when going at a steady speed w/o any elevation changes or wind. Do one test/measurement for each speed. You won't spend as much time/days doing this.
Why a struggling OEM doesn't acquire Lucid is beyond me. If VW Group is willing to spend USD 5bn to improve their software / electrical architecture, I don't see why it doesn't make sense for an OEM to spend c. 12bn (assuming a 25% acquisition premium on current mkt cap) to buy out Lucid for proprietary access to the best EV tech in the business. If any attempts have been made, maybe the PIF has blocked them being the majority shareholders?
Lucid does not want to be sold. They are funded by the Saudi wealth fund. At 60% controlling interest is a massive bet on this being a cash cow. Give it maybe 5 years then it could be on the table.
Because the Saudi’s fund their investment portfolio w oil revenue, it isn’t really portfolio diversification if the controlling company is primary ICE/gas fueled. They are thinking about both short term and long term ROI w their oil revenue reinvestment.
"Vehicle may shut down unexpectedly" - weve all been staring at the battery gauge for 500 miles; it could be many things, but unexpected wont be one of them.
WOW! Surely this is the end of GAS... who the hell would ever need to driver further than 500miles and not stop for at least 20 minutes.. Edit: I should say as a 2009 TSLA investor despite what 'King Elon' says Rawlinson and the entire Lucid team deserve a huge round of kudos and respect! GO LUCID! WELL DONE!
I had to drive 700 miles and back last week, trip was 10 hours each way and I did it in one day. 1400 miles. You couldn't do this in ANY electric vehicle, 20 minutes of charge time would do nothing for you and nevermind I saw no places to charge along the way really.
@@TxChristopher I call cap... you drove 700 miles non stop and turned around and went back? what real life situation would ever need such a trip and not include a minute of stopping at the destination?
@@SuperKimjong It's not like the charge location advertise exactly where they are.. but you can check on apps and see that charge locations are basically everywhere all over the US yeah..
For all ppl saying you don't need this much range. True but this were ideal circumstances... if you drive in the winter, when it's wet and windy + if you drive a bit faster (130 km/h / ~82 miles/h which is the allowed highway speed in many EU countries) your range will suffer immensely. 500 miles become 300 miles and I'm not even talking about the German Autobahn. That said I believe when Lucid puts in ~150 kWh batteries and the cars stay this efficient then we are where we want to be!
If this means the Pure trim will get me 300 miles in the middle of a Michigan winter with the heat going and my music blasting, I'm down to get one as soon as I can afford it.
That is pretty incredible efficiency. I wonder what it would do with the ultra efficient Hankook iON EVO AS tires. I got 315 miles of range with my 2024 Model 3 Performance and those tires in the 235/45/18 size with 8% SOC left. In controlled testing the Hankook AS tires were 16% more efficient than the stock summer tires that came on the car. I really hope Out of Spec tests these tires with the 70 mph range test.
Lucid makes world class cars. The Air starts at $69,990.00, is proudly Engineered and built by American Craftsmen in America. As far as the Saudi's investing and Lucid building a factory that will produce 100,000 cars for foreign markets in 2023 in Jeddah along with their Arizona factory built earlier. Comments left by people are kind of ridiculous, since the 1950's, Saudi Petroleum has been a part of every Americans life. Powering the ICE cars, industrial plants, plastics revolution, etc. Every store> Home Depot, Walmart, etc. They all have merchandise/tools/appliances made with some form of Saudi Petroleum. It'll be exciting to see what Lucid can do in the next few years.
Keep in mind the price difference of the Lucid Air vs anything Tesla currently has available. Think people forget that important point
It should go much further than 500 miles with daily driving. The highway is the most inefficient form of driving for EVs; the slower, the better.
Means this will be normal for the rest of us in 10 years.
@@meandmyEVwell there were some phones that had huge batteries, but noone bought them since for most people, 2 days battery life is enough ;)
Same with EVs, very few people actually have an advantage of such a range and the 50k over a Model S or 100k or more above a Model 3 wouldnt be worth it for me to maybe stop one time less in a year.
Imagine if/when Lucid's charging curve can compete with the refresh Taycan's. The true long distance EV king!
That charging curve is also killing the Taycan battery much faster than Lucid’s.
@@johnreed5056does it?
@@johnreed5056that's BS misinformation from a tesla owner most.likely 🤡
Wait….you went 500 HIGHWAY miles on a single charge? That’s unbelievable!
I love your enthusiasm
Sensational car!!
Bravo Lucid 👏.
Some might think that 500 mile range is not important but when you factor in ideal charging and discharging rate to maximise battery life; there goes 20% at least and a bit of spirited driving; you'll be left with probably a conservative 350 miles range. Apply the same to a car with a maximum range of 350 miles; now you're dealing with a 200-mile range; real world driving.
For people who mainly charge at home or have poor access to a public charging network, such cars are ideal.
Test drove lucid it's an amazing car soon we will see a lot of Lucids on the road.
8:12 Thank you for the clarification, I was thinking 72 mph would mean 515 miles to hit 500, but the odometer is bang on.
Great opening Kyle!
This was absolutely amazing! The future has indeed arrived! 🚗🇺🇸⚡🔌
That car range tested you!
the best of everything
Except price
Doesn’t the cybertruck have vehicle to vehicle charging capability ? I thought you might be able to charge the Lucid a bit after it died just to get it to the charging station and save the trouble of loading a trailer.
Probably faster to just use the trailer.
34:15 The silhouette of the Cybertruck looks really nice.
You are one of the only guys I really like and enjoy watching videos online because you are so nice tbh, nice range test how does lucid compare to the big brother ? Model s Tesla
The Lucid is certainly top level efficiency tech, but I wouldn’t call the “standard”. This is the “big boy” as Kyle said.
No bolts ever too slow charging
Buy 2 years used and you have a bunch of options.
@@ayushmalpeddi2793wait they've already done testing on EV3? I thought they only just revealed it. Interesting..
Its coming in fact there will be three
They have different models already and are working on some smaller sized cars, too.
They kinda do with the pure trim . Half the price or so of this 400 miles and good incentives
Wow, that is beautiful. 516 rated 510.5 actual not bad. Not bad at all. And if you were to do the same test City driving style that might be somewhere between 600 and 700+ range
Great job bro. Keep up the great work. Have a good one. Catch you on the next one lucid telling all the EV manufacturers hold my beer LOL
And from 100% to 0% 523.7 mi
118 KW hours. Beautiful stuff
Could you imagine if this bad boy had a Silverado battery in it? It will be like the Energizer Bunny going and going and going LOL
Now to get this tech in a sub 40k EV.
This tech will allow a sub$40k EVs. 4.4 miles per KwH will allow really small batteries with decent daily range. Smaller batteries = cheaper cars. Lucid is doing good work.
Before 2035 sure 😊
you going to make the batteries cheap? or just whine
I'd be able to go from my house in the San Luis Valley to Denver and back on one charge in this car. ❤
Please do this with the Camry and Prius hybrid in the same roads and weather and traffic conditions.
And nail.mixed driving and in chicago winters.
Really love these cars, if I can get into a position where I can afford one I’m definitely going for it
Tesla got beaten, well done Lucid!
Great test. Makes me wonder if it has any buffer at all, since it let you drive the cells to their are almost completely empty.
(95/83.6). It stopped when you had used 83.6
Some cars have a non linear SOC rating and have much larger percent from 0-1% than 1-2%.The lucid is an example of that, but it is not a buffer, but some call it a zero buffer. But is is usable so it does not protect battery.
It’s how the estimated range is displayed vs. actual range. It will always be conservative. So whatever the final number is here, Lucid already knows the buffer.
Wow. Lucid is the range beast
The regen kept you going!! 😂😂😂
This is simply amazing, I wish we could get Lucid in Europe.
Love the video. Have you ever correlated the range at 65 mph?
I predicted 523 miles during the live stream. 💪
This was an awesome test!!!!
Saudi whitewashing.
SMART MOVE CHANGING THE NAME OF THAT GAS STATION
Lucky you battery packs can’t sue you😆, watch for AI battery pack personnas in the future !
"Vehicle may shut down unexpectedly" - weve all been staring at the battery gauge for 500 miles; it could be many things, but unexpected wont be one of them.
Like the idea of owning an EV that you only have to charge when stopped at nigh, Impressive.
I'd love to see how it's running at 85mph.
GO LUCID! WELL DONE!
The end of gas is a stretch 😅 unless we have su mch cars for cheaper so that the majority can afford.
You're talking like it's priced like a Civic 😂
Tesla bought to go Bankrupt this Lucid Air Looks Way better and gets 500 miles Distance
If this means the Pure trim will get me 300 miles in the middle of a Michigan winter with the heat going and my music blasting, I'm down to get one as soon as I can afford it.
would you get a longer range in just city driving?
Yes.
Also, Lucid actually uses 2x 12volt AGM batteries.
Range is king!
Lucid is far better than Tesla when it comes to range. ❤Far better
Imagine if Tesla wasn’t so distracted with FSD…
Tesla is distracted with presidential politics
So, to say. I am not going to buy a Lucid because the Saudi's have made an investment in this American company is being pretty naive.
I'm hoping to upgrade from MY to Lucid Gravity next summer
