They asked me me the name of the track playing but hell I couldn’t remember! Puddled!! I said I’m off to the toilet! Be back in five! Half an hour later waiting for the toilet ended up back with my mates! Gets back to work on Monday. My mate says you dick head where did you go!!!??? Me! Just went to the toilet! My mate says them girls were well into you! If there was a time for a Time Machine! But you know what, one hell of a night!!!!!!!?! Nice one brother!

I don’t think I have ever been present at a set like this, that was so atmospheric, where everyone- and I mean everyone- was so spannered and so in tune with everything Oakey touched. It felt like an awakening but we’d all done Oakey sets at Cream where he’d just done residency; it was like this was the absolute high watermark of Oakey. Nothing could compare after this. I feel so lucky this was recorded as it really captures that cavernous tent. Outrageously good and I will never stop returning to this. I just remember that moment when Oakey triggered his own delay on The Lizard..that crowd, I can’t even estimate how many were in there, just lost it. I am so pleased everyone can now still enjoy it, just as we did. Crikey, we got 2 Lotherton Halls back-to-back 98 and 99...
Thanks for sharing these memories! I love to read about festivals and raves as I did not experience it when I was younger. The sound of Oakenfold introduced me to electronic music, I listened to a lot of his music and mixes but never saw him live. I discovered this set a few months ago and have been hooked.. so much energy, I can almost feel part of the atmosphere that you are describing and the sound quality and crowd reactions add to it! I was there, my first big event. When lizard hit and the prophet the crowd went mad. I'm sure the big tune at the time was The launch. Also saw goldie, Liam howlet from the prodigy and then sunrise it was sasha and digweed northern exposure. If I remember right!! as after this event did every major uk event till early to mid 2000 and most weekends gods kitchen at the sanctuary Birmingham. Them were the days.
