- Clutched the 5:02.6xx in classic Niftski fashion by having a bad first room fast accel and saving it with second room fast accel! I got this in only 7 attempts with the first run out of 4-2 getting it as well! Glitchless is now only 0.2 seconds / 12 frames away from the TAS, which is a 5:02.485. I do not plan on just stopping here, I would love to push this to a lower 5:02.6xx in the future since there are 3 easy frames to save in first room. A 5:02.5xx is possible with third room TAS accel + more accels, but if I were to ever achieve this, it would definitely be my stopping point.

@carancool tying TAS on 8-4 is almost on once-in-a-lifetime level bs. These guys grind Individual Level for hours just to get within a few frames, using the Modded Rom to show them if they got the best frame in each room.
Tying TAS blind on 8-4 during a real run is never going to happen.

Now that you're starting to attack TAS 8-4, I'm wondering if this Glitchless category might be the right category for making a push for the World's First TAS 8-4 in a speedrun. Definitely potential for more on-pace attempts here, in preparation for the Any% nerves...
currently tas 8-4 for glitchless is harder than any% because of second room, nobody has been able to replicate the coin block climb the tas does

That was my thought too! The time difference between all glitches used and no glitches used. I think the first warp zone and the flagpoles makes most of the time saving when using all glitches :)

@Niftski I think may have found a new time save while playing SMB the other day. Basically Mario can step at least halfway out onto a deadly obstacle such as a spike or thwomp and he won't die, but if you make him run and jump and land in the exact same spot on a spike instead of walking then he will die.
So you just have to see if there is any place in this game where you normally make Mario jump and land just shy of a deadly obstacle during a speed run. If so then you can very likely make Mario land a fraction of an inch closer to the deadly obstacle, or even closer and touch the obstacle a little if you try it and he doesn't die.
I'll look through the most recent speed run record to see if there are any instances like what I described and see if I can indeed get Mario to land closer to an obstacle to save any small amount of time on a run.
i'm not sure exactly what you're referring to, but even if it works, i don't think there's any place in the game that could be used to our advantage

That was a level I found on Mario Maker 2, but I tested the same scenario with different enemies and objects in Mario Maker 2 and Mario was able to walk out that far onto every enemy and object that I tried without dying.
@@Niftski I found that in 8-4 right before you reach Bowser there is a place where you jump down off of a platform and land on another platform in front of some lava. You land on the lower platform and then jump over the lava to hit Bowser, but I bet if you jumped a little further ahead so that Mario lands partially inside of the lava, that Mario probably still wouldn't die. This is also something that would realistically save time on a speed run if it works.

it is specifically coded in the game where it only checks for collision with enemies on every other frame, and what i did there is simply taking advantage of that game mechanic in order to enter the pipe as early as possible

There isnt a category for it, but Niftski has a run thats a few frames behind the tas
I can only guess there isnt one because d-4 categories are played much less frequently, so optimizing d-4 isn’t necessary
