Today is one of the most important days in all of speedrunning history! All the greats who broke second barriers in the past (from Andrewg to Niftski's own 4:54.948 back in 2021) have carved their names in gaming history, but this, tying the TAS up to 8-4, is on another level. Getting this close to human perfection in a videogame is one of the most beautiful things this community has achieved over the last few decades, and congratulations to Niftski for being the one to actually do it!!
Funny how the system of framerules makes the game truly awesome, and lets humans actually approach TAS times. To actually hit every single one of them playing RTA is incredibly awesome. only 8-4 is free of frame rules, and is the final frontier.
The TAS tie saga has finally TRULY begun!! 6. runs. past. Lightning. in. one. session. All that needs to be said about the 🐐. Unstoppable. G fricking G!
Exactly what I was going to say. It wasn't even that long ago that no human had ever matched lightning 4-2 even in an individual level run. Now he's getting it twice in a row.
While I'm not actively following the mario speedrunning scene, the absolute dedication and skill to be able to tie a (human) TAS for framerules is absolutely incredible, amazing work!

This kid probably got confused by the Kosmic video that talks about the multiple near-misses in being able to save extra frame rules, that are just barely impossible.
As much as it’s satisfying to hit the milestone of matching the TAS up to the final level, I don’t know how it must feel in your shoes when you’re just frames away from complete perfection as we know it.
Congratulations on the run, this is incredible.
Imagine telling Niftski just under 3 years ago when he got lightning for the first time that the record would reach this point. Absolute insanity, gg
honestly I'm not sure what impresses me more, the speedrun, or the fact you survived those heart rates
You'd have to be really old or unhealthy for those heart rates to kill you.

I’m not even super big into speedrunning but every once in a while I’ll search to see if there is a new SMB world record. It’s like some form of accomplishment for humanity to match the precision and speed of a computer. Glad to see this in my feed. Legendary.
This is basically me. I don’t follow any speed runners or anything, but I’ll casually watch speed runs sometimes, and every few months I search SMB WR haha.
@@9000ryan you have to check Karl Jobst channel for your monthly speedrun news.
yep i fall into the same category as well! very good run, great job 👍🏻
@hafcat: Have you checked out the youtube channel Summoning Salt? I'll watch world record progression videos of games I've never played before just because he does them so well.
this is the only reaction to a WR that i feel like is completely warranted. LITERAL perfection is something to be proud of
kinda disrespectful. Most WRs are something to be proud of and take ridiculous amounts of time to pull off.
@@simanolastname2399 if you feel thats direspectful thats on you alone buddy
The original commenter meant to say "you could only react like this to a WR this mindblowing", which means that this WR *will* amaze you. It has nothing to do with any other WR. Holy shit, man!! I never thought I'd see the day where an RTA run could tie to TAS to 8-4. And that was tears of joy man. You sir, are a living myth! Congratulations man, you earned this!
I mean about year ago i was sure already that Niftski could do it... and he delivered
Too late to explore the world, too early to explore the galaxy, just in time to witness THIS RUN!

Super Mario Bros. Any% is probably the most prestigious category of Speedrunning. Congrats brother. Your talent is unfathomable.
I'm not even a speedrunner or watch much of it on twitch, but from watching lots of Summoning Salt & the progression of different games I've come to appreciate how amazing this run is. To tie the TAS to 8-4 is... otherworldly. Wow, just wow, congrats!
he failed. It was done on a PC keyboard and emulator so it doesn't count.
@@plasmaastronaut
1. Emulator is identical to the original game and is allowed by the leaderboards as long as No L+R is on
2. Keyboards are allowed by leaderboards and in fact keyboards are likely worse for speedrunning Mario. Niftski has done some amazing runs on controller despite not typically playing on controller, such as a 4:54.931, which would land him at 4th on the leaderboards (including his current world record).
@@plasmaastronautThen why were his previous WRs on keyboards (4:54.9xx, 4:54.8xx, 4:54.789) counted if they were all on keyboards? It still counts. Plus, at the Mario speed running event he achieved a 4:56, a 4:55 and a 4:54.931 on a controller. He’s still amazing at this game and this does count.
Same here, his documentaries are done so well, it keeps you interested
Holy crap, you’re not giving anybody ANY breathing room for improving this record anymore. It’s all about improving 8-4 now. Congrats to you Niftski, hopefully you’re ready for what’s next in your speedrunning journey.
He also broke the sound barrier 🚧
One day everyone will truly understand how insane of a milestone this actually is. You are a legend, man!
This also ties the L+R TAS for framerules
@@nucularsr …maybe
The nerves of this run is unlike anything I have ever seen. This man made SMB1 history once again.
I sadly missed it, but watching it back on TH-cam is so raw...
Thank you for creating history... and I hope you continue to do so as long as you can!
making SMB1 history is pretty much Niftski's job description at this point lmao
It's actually nice to see someone react appropriately to such an achievement, well done 🔥
This is the holy grail of speedruns and you smashed it. Congrats. This is so awesome.
A few years back when Niftski got 4:54 only one player had ever gotten Lightning 4-2 on an individual level run. That player was Niftski. Now he is the first to get it in a full WR run. Literally the greatest trio of achievements in Super Mario Bros history.
Totally unreal, dude. There aren’t enough superlatives to fully convey just how massive of an accomplishment this is.
Thank you for all your effort and passion. I think you’re gonna do pretty well with this little hobby we call speedrunning.

To put in perspective the effort to achieve something like this is almost impossible. The execution required to peform a feat like this is inhuman. This truly is the greatest milestone in mario bros speed running if not speed running as a whole. The effect super mario speedrunning has had on speedrunning as a whole is immeasurable, and to reach this perfection is to certify yourself as perhaps the greatest speed runners in all of history. Think about the love the world has for people that didnt even achive these records like billy Michelle who "did" the impossible. To actually perform a feat of perfection in a game so influential is something never experienced by anyone to this calliaber. You have gone the distance Nifski, your are, at least to me, the greatest speedrunner in history.

@@TheLucyKemp if someone practiced for the high jump world record every day, and then went to the olympics and achieved it, then started celebrating, would you be calling them a drug addict looking for a high?
