  • We visit BURFORD The Cotswolds England for a walk around this stunning town and often referred to as the gateway to the cotswolds!
Also watch our tour of Stow on the Wold - • STOW ON THE WOLD, The ...
Burford is a Cotswolds Town situated about 18 miles west of Oxford and just 22 miles southeast of Cheltenham. Burford is in Oxfordshire although it's only 2 miles from the boundary with Gloucestershire.
One of the most picturesque towns in England, Burford has a beautiful high street that heads up from the River Windrush, and is home to many historic and beautiful buildings, pubs, cafes and shops.
There are also a number of fantastic antique shops to browse when you visit Burford.
In this Cotswolds tour we start at the top of The Hill which is the main street running through Burford village. Along here you'll find the Brian Sinfield gallery, The Tolsey Museum, Burford House, The Mermaid Inn and lots of other Cotswolds Tourist Attractions and visitor landmarks.
The Burford Tolsey Museum and Archive is a fine little two room museum in Burford, England and situated in The Tolsey which is at 126 High Street, Burford and build in an old market house.
The history of this town is fantastic with stories of fiery coaches racing through the streets of the town casting curses on all those who see it, to stories of the English Civil Wars and the Burford Mutiny and Levellers (every day there is a commemoration of the rebellion during Burford Levellers Day)! It's one of the most interesting places in the whole of The Cotswolds England!
If you fancy something sweet and nice to spoil yourself on your visit then head for Huffkins Cafe & Bakery on Burford High Street. Full of delicious cakes and bakery items you'll love it!
Burford is also home to England's oldest pharmacy which has been a chemist since 1734.
Finding something to eat in Burford is easy with teashops, pubs, bakeries, restaurants and hotels dotted along High Street and up the hill.
Burford is an absolute must visit if you are on a holiday or on a visit to The Cotswolds, England. Of all the towns and villages in the UK it's worth a look and worth the travel time. It's also great for walking too with lots of walks in and around the area.
If you're looking for things to do in the Cotswolds then head for Burford and make it your base and you can take a trip to all the tourism hotspots around the cotswold area including nearby chipping campden, broadway, castle combe and more!

The building that I liked the most in your beautiful video was the one named THE COOK SHOP mainly because of the beautiful little oriel window in the facade... ❤🇬🇧

We went to Burford about a week ago and it is a lovely place. We stayed at Lechlade which as a lovely christmas shop. Wonder why there was so many pubs but I guess it was their entertainment in those days.

Burford is indeed a lovely village. Though there are many nice shops, restaurants etc, one of my faves is the Christmas Court. Huffkins Cafe and Bakery is where I would make a stop - I love assorted pastries.

My favourite building would have to be The Cotswold Arms. I was billeted there, after service in the RAF, while doing an agricultural course at Shilton Poultry Farm in 1956/57. I see a lot of changes with the township having become a tourist destination. I used to cycle up and down the hill daily on my way to Shilton. Not many cars in those days. I met my future wife in the lounge bar where I used to take my evening meal. She was from a nearby village called Taynton. We married in 1958 at Taynton Church before I rejoined the RAF. My wife's G/father was a stonemason in Burford and her father was responsible for trimming the High Street trees on a regular basis. Does anyone know what those trees are?
I enjoyed that leisurely stroll with you. Incidentally, when I was living there, the town supported 13 pubs and the population was 900 residents. Ain't nostalgia wonderful. Regards from Queensland Australia.

A little bit more about Burford,
This is the stone country of the Cotswolds, from the quarries on the eastern edge came the easily worked oolite limestone to rebuild many of London's churches after the Great Fire, St Paul's Cathedral, Blenheim Palace, Oxford's colleges and the Sheldonian Theatre are also made from Cotswold Stone.
The ancient Priory, now a closed nunnery, lies to the west, holding the memories of 'pretty witty Nell' and her merry monarch within its austere walls. Their son born in 1670 was created Earl of Burford and Nell Gwyn named her rooms at Windsor Burford House.

Utterly bucolic! Fond memories of wandering the side streets on a foggy spring evening with the gardens still resplendent in the failing light, accompanied by the bells ringing in the church ! Having only arrived in from Australia 2 days earlier we were entranced. Thank you for your efforts.
