After much thinking, when it comes to getting the most out of one of these phones, the Note 20 Ultra would actually be the better choice. When you consider what you're gaining vs what you're losing. Consider this, especially assuming you already own a Note 20 Ultra and have been debating whether to upgrade...
When getting the S21 Ultra, you're gaining:
    - Incrementally better processor (the 888), which you won't really notice any better performance in day to day use compared to the 865+
    - Better camera. But unless you're dedicated photographer who wants the perfectly crafted shots, then it's not really worth it in the long run IMHO as the Note 20 Ultra camera already takes great photos
    - Larger battery....does not necessarily mean better battery life compared to the Note 20 Ultra
    - Combined quadHD+ and 120hz refresh rate
    - S Pen support (but it's kinda redundant when the Note 20 Ultra has a dedicated S Pen
    What you're losing:
    - microSD expansion
    - MST support for card payments using the phone (NFC only greatly limits that digital card reach compared to MST)
    - Always on-the-go S Pen availability right in the phone
Three of the gains are incremental at best while all three loses are substantial. The loss of MST support for making card transactions drastically cuts down on where you can use your phone for payments, when you're limited to NFC. microSD card expansion is just another example of Samsung copying Apple...the blind leading the blind. On principle alone, the line must be drawn with the microSD card slot alone. As for the S Pen, it becomes a hassle when you have to have a case on your phone that adds more width and bulk just to have the S Pen handy. With the Note 20 Ultra, like all Note phones before it, the S Pen is tucked neatly inside the phone itself. And for that matter, the S Pen in the Note is bluetooth enabled while the one you can get for the S21 Ultra, at least for the time being, is not.
Bottom line is after a couple months of really analyzing the S21 Ultra...sure, it's a great phone and the form factor seems to be one of the biggest selling points, you gotta keep in mind what you're giving up. The only real reason why anyone would want to upgrade is to have 1440p resolution and 120hz refresh rate at the same time. But seriously, I switched back and forth between 1080p and 1440p resolution and honestly, I don't see much difference. I personally think if you already have the Note 20 Ultra, you should hold onto it and skip the S21 Ultra, however tempting it may be. If you can get a good deal on it, I'd encourage you to get the Note 20 Ultra instead, considering you still get a periscope telephoto lens for 5x optical zoom and 50x "space zoom". Overall, the Note 20 Ultra may be the last overall great Samsung phone left, if the company keeps removing features from their flagships. After plenty of thinking, I've concluded that for all its wow factor; when you see past that and look at the gains vs the losses, the S21 Ultra just isn't worth it to me. Even if I traded in my Note 20 Ultra for it and got the S21 Ultra for $550 (because I would get no less than the 256GB model), I know I'll end up with buyer's remorse once the charm of owning it wears off and I realize what I've just given up just to have the latest.
Keep or buy the Note 20 Ultra. Trust me on this.

Samsung really dropped the ball with the S21 Ultra. My Note20 Ultra is better and I'll skip buying this smartphone because its more like Samsung is trying to be like Apple by taking away more then they offer, my Note20 Ultra is 6'9 inches, the S21 Ultra is 6'8 inches I have an Micro SD slot the S21 Ultra don't, you have to buy an S Pin and a case to house it in for the S21 Ultra, I have an S Pin free with a place in my Note20 Ultra for it. Etc, etc etc my Note20Ultra came with a charger your going to pay 20 bucks for a chargerif you get a S21 Ultra. You get it,, everything else the S21 has my Note20 Ultra has....
Samsung is doing what Apple does and taking away features instead of adding them, this is why I switched from Apple to Samsung in the first place.... Samsung DONT BECOME APPLE.

How? The S21 Ultra is literally an upgrade in EVERY way...what make's the Note a more complete phone when the S21 Ultra is better in every single category other then the Micro SD slot which hardly anybody uses anymore anyway? That make's no sense to call an older phone that has less and older tech inside the more complete device...

Also having the integrated S pen is a massive bonus, not having to carry around that S pen case is always a win for the note.
The only feature that I feel the note is lacking is 1440 at 120Hz which is a bummer, but you can barely even tell the difference b/w 1080 and 1440

The S21 Ultra. Not even a comparison. The Note user's don't even have the "I can use an S Pen and you can't" line to S Ultra user's anymore. The S21 Ultra is an upgrade in LITERALLY every way and we can ALSO now use an S Pen as well. Samsung is replacing the Note series with the Ultra series, so they are packing all of their best tech into the Ultra now just like they used to do with the Note. The fact of the matter is the S21 Ultra is the best phone on the market right now.

    • @Noir_Baa
      @Noir_Baa 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Your purchase reassurance rhetoric couldn't be more evident and pulsating with insecurity.
*The Note user's don't even have the "I can use an S Pen and you can't" line to S Ultra user's anymore.*
Yet, the Note phones come WITH an S-Pen, storage onboard for the S-Pen, WITH Bluetooth compatibility, and without the need to waste $40+ extra dollars on the pen, some stupid add-on case that adds MORE bulk to the S21 Ultra, and the even more expensive "Pro" S-Pen, or whatever they are calling it, that will be released later this year...to get the amenities of what the S-Pen in Note devices already has. It's safe to say the S-Pen support for the S21 is half-baked, but...arbitrarily give these multi-billion dollar companies ALL of your money and then think afterwards, champ!
*The S21 Ultra is an upgrade in LITERALLY every way*
No...no; it's not. Lack of expandable storage, a charging brick, a slightly better SoC and other specs, etc. doesn't make it an "upgrade in LITERALLY every way" by far. At best, it's another incremental refresh that the starry-eyed ignorant misunderstand as something that's actually a game changer. Perhaps you should...look up the word 'upgrade' before misusing it next time?
Samsung cut the same anti-consumer corners they mocked, yet imitated Apple over, because they are just another unoriginal, gluttonous, and dishonorable capitalist snake/Apple imitation, or Apple Mini, who lost their identity for that cold hard cash, and consumers like yourself don't even have a clue what's going on here, other than enabling them and the downgrades they made to the S21 line. But...ignorance is bliss.
*Samsung is replacing the Note series with the Ultra series*
Aw...how adorable - you're the type that believes ANYTHING you see on the internet! No wonder you typed a ballad of uninformed hilarity!
If it makes you feel better, type whatever comes to your imagination. I just felt it was a good time killer to correct the laughably misguided pride you have over your purchase you truly think is that much better than the Note 20 Ultra, let alone the "best phone on the market right now".

Definitely right about hardly being able to tell the difference between 1080p and 1440p on a display this small. You have to do some intensive side by side comparisons to really see the difference. Only time I make use of it is for HQ video content or some image viewing. Games depend...not a big gamer on phones.
Also as far as speed. I have my old s10+ and I usually leave it on full power save mode. So it throttles the cpus and keeps the phone at 70% max speed. I still can use it casually and pretty much forget it's slowed down. So...if a s10+ @ 70% max performance is passable for most content to run smoothly. The likes of full n20u or s21u are going to be good enough for a long time.

    Comparisons:
The only real world advantage that I can see for the S21 Ultra are :
    1. Better front facing camera
    2. Better zoom on back facing camera
    3. Ever so slightly cheaper
    Note 20 Ultra advantages:
    1. MST still in play with Samsung Pay. This is not the same as NFC
(You can trick magnetic card readers into thinking you swiped a card. It is still supported, though the Note will be the last to have it).
    2. S-Pen included and storage for S-Pen
    3. S-Pen is better (BT support, more pressure sensitivity)
    4. SD Card support
Aside from that, there are some differences, battery life, processor speeds, DPI, screen size... but none of that is noticeable from day to day use.
I am completely torn. I want the better cameras and screen, but I also want everything else that the Note offers.

Even tho you can't do 1440p@120hz on the note, you can run it at 1439p@120hz if you do an adb command. Have it running on mine and it looks pretty good. Have to stick with the note for now. I use mst abd the sd card slot often. Otherwise, I would go with the s21.

I have ordered a Note 20 ultra last week. Its otw. As an avid photographer in the past grappling with film rolls and accidental exposures, then came the digital cameras. It was the chicken and egg scenario. Getting a high power digital camera was expensive then. The question was about good resolution camera vs hungry battery gobbling processors which led to overheating and ultimately inadequate room for storage. Both battery and storage would bankrupt anybody dare to venture in.
This would ultimately led me to buy this Note Ultra with 512gb storage, my god the 8k video would knock your storage dry! And if its not enough just simply buy another sdxc card! It can be until 1TB. For that, I will sacrifice some picture quality. If I want serious photography, might as well buy a full size digital camera with all kind of lenses. Cheers!

Used both, kept my note 20 ultra, bigger screen, sd card, built in s pen and there's no noticeable performance difference. Note 20 Ultra has a bad battery and doesn't have 120hz (120 at fhd is not 120, there's a noticeable loss of detail going from WQHD to fhd)
The S21 is just not a note and the SD 888 runs hot and throttles making the SD 865+ actually better in performance. S21 has no advantage other than 120hz at WQHD and battery life, it lags in every other category making it an overall downgrade compared to Note get a 1TB SD card in your note and load it up with content and you can never go without an SD card again.
The cameras show no difference in real life testing.

I just ordered the S21 Ultra 512GB Unlocked from Best Buy. I have the 12 Pro Max, and I have until Thursday to decide if I want to cancel/refund it. I have been wanting to switch since the Note came out, but never pulled the trigger and instead jumped on the iPhone when the old design came back out. I am also sorta deep in the ecosystem and will be wanting a tablet later on. I already have the AirPods Pro, Watch, and Apple TV, and Apple Credit Card, so I'm so torn. But I jumped on the S21 Ultra just in case while it was available because of how hard it is to get right now. Also, the ecosystem aside, losing iMessage will be hard for me, especially losing my group chats and the ability to natively send and receive large data and full quality photos and videos. I just don't know what to do at this point. Is the S21 Ultra really worth switching to?

Note 20 ultra has MST aswell as a Bluetooth spen, these are two other features you missed out the note has the s21ultra lacks. Software can always be upgraded, however hardware is a different story. The extra hardware features make note 20ultra better.
