Thanks for covering this Pravus! If you play again the 'chambers' upgrade in the tavern adds two unit spots to the field, so getting two ingots from the merchant would let you buy one from the hero and then ether another from the portal or you can buy the starting wheat bonus plots and with your orb you can start with 4 wheat and buy the priest on day one. Or get the priest and the portal unit and use the merchant ingots to upgrade a monster.

Suggestion to the devs: Do something to make all persistent upgrades distinct. Give them a flashing border of a unique colour, or have a specific icon, etc.. As a new player, knowing what purchases represent permanent progression vs. what will only help me this run is very valuable.

Tip: those resource next run unlocks open opportunities to skip building some things. Like say starting with wheat coupled with a wheat drop from the supply depot let's you spawn a mule (free hauler) and the Monk.
A few days after clearing the farm you will have gotten some enough wheat from the daily delivery to upgrade the Inn. This lets you deploy that Monk and rearrange your heroes. Make sure you get the Monk early so they can sit no the bench but still level up.

This game seems simple but is a heavy micro management jewel.

Outside of boss fights you can swap unit locations and use your knight to eat some hits to protect your squishier units on the other side. He ends up with a fair bit of armour to its usually no big deal. The opposite is also true, you can swap your hero who is close to death with someone else and let them tank the hit (and often die) for you. But if you're desperate, it might just be enough to survive a wave and hopefully get some upgrades.
