26:21 ...blocks, and fire too! Simon, from an aging geezer gearhead, a sincere thank you for your *very* hard work and dedication. Man, I sure do miss my '76 Feather Duster...
For anyone who has done an engine swap where you have to fabricate new engine mounts, this is definitely not as easy he makes it look. It involves a lot of measuring, fabricating, installing the engine, pulling the engine back out, welding, putting the engine back in. This guy is very very good. I installed a Cadillac 472 cubic inch engine in a 1964 Chevrolet pickup.
I was feeling a bit disappointed that you did a boring LS swap but then I read your description above and I understand the reasons now. The new 2 door is a fabulous thing. We only got the 4 door sedans in Australia, nothing as exotic as the 2 door. Really enjoying binging your videos. 😊
If you wanted an EFI motor I think a late 80's or 90's 460 would have been a better choice, but to each their own methods. In 1990 I put a 289 hypo in my 62 ranchero, talk about shredding tire's! Was a fun project.
You can. Save up for something thats cool, but not so desirable. These LTDs, and Galaxys arent that pricy. Pick up a cheap mechanic set of tools (like the ones reviewed in Project Farm) and learn. Manuals are around online, and plenty of people are willing to give help. True, everything is pricy now, but it isnt impossible. Also, craigslist and marketplace is your friend when it comes to used tools and parts. Avoid ebay, unless its a pure original showcare. They price gouge. But, you got somebody out there rooting for you!
Great video, made the swap look easy. What exhaust manifolds are you using? Did you have clearance issues with the steering box? I'm thinking of doing this to my 65 as well.
I used these cheap ones off Amazon: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074KSKGKQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1. It looks like they're unavailable, but if you look up headers for an LS swap into a chevy S10, you should find some. They fit perfect, no steering box issues. Let me know if you have anymore questions on the swap, I'm happy to help.
I understand the LS swap, I am no hater. But it does feel better to have a ford in a ford, Chevy in a Chevy. I would have considered a 302 out of a late 90s exploder/mountaineer. They have the better flowing GT40 heads, efi, and can be found dirt cheap from salvage yards or as a complete donor. And you get a 8.8” rear with disc brakes and optional LSD.
This is the exact engine we get for early Ford Broncos. Often you can buy those explorers for very cheap because the trans was acting up. We tear those 5 liter motors down and the cross hatching is still intact after 200,000 miles. Great motor for a swap, the axles are just a sweet bonus!
Thanks for sharing, I really enjoy watching the mostly mechanical work involved with these old Fords. But question, with the LS swap are you using an ECM in conjunction with it? If so, the original or another?
It's your rig but I have to ask why would you take out 289 to put ls3? 4 barrel headers mild cam 289 screams like no other...5.3 sounds like all 5.3 trucks with straight pipes bad choice in my opinion. I'm set in my ways you have colored my opinion of your work with this project. Not that it matters I'm nobody.
Basically you can convert any carburettor engine to EFI, watch Peter Mbiria channel. He's from Africa and converting carburettor gas guzzlers to EFI, he's selling a kit on his website, ECU and other necessary parts. Conversion costs 1000-1500 usd.
Beautiful work! Would love to get a small v-8 into my 92 Toyota Shortbed pickup when the 22RE finally dies cuz I don't want to give up this outrageously simple vehicle for the junk they're forcing on us today. I can offer room, board and all meals while you're doing the job lol.
Too bad you couldn't have found a nice 2-valve Romeo V8 out of a Crown Vic cop car/taxi w the same mileage. I hope you paid $10 for that 300K mi LS. Like your channel, tho.
If you ever end up with another FE, you might consider the "Carb Cheater" that Thunderhead289 created. For fun, he put a lawnmower carb on a Ford 302 and it ended up with amazing gas mileage (although the lawnmower carb robbed a ton of horsepower): th-cam.com/video/FwhMz2kR4pw/w-d-xo.html He has tried this on many different carbs and it seems to have a positive effect on mileage and performance.
@@SimonFordman Kind of makes me wish I was still driving something with a carb. I honestly think EFI is the default, not because it's necessarily better but because it was easier for the car companies to meet emission control requirements and mileage targets. Carbs work well, but only when they're adjusted properly. EFI works great until it doesn't. Then you're hooped.
He found a LS swapped w/manual 4dr post donor-driver for a parts car my man. What would you rather run? That clapped out 289 w/a leaky, slipping auto? C'mon man, it's a driver not some rare trailer, Queen.
I don't like breeding them. But it's not mine. The 289 would have made it worth more but again not mine. The car was a stick before junky Ls swap not mine again. He does a pretty good job I've liked most of his posts this one was ook.
This channel feels like primitive technology(the youtube channel) meets the roadkill show. Cant wait for more
Oooh, i see u r a man of culture as well
Setting that harness on fire was so freakin' AWESOME! 😂😂😂... Don't know why I thought it was so funny. Good work on the swap though.👍🏿
The lack of shouted expletives is awe inspiring.
not to mention the relentless, methodical and at times ingenious work.
I’m a Ford dealership technician. I enjoy watching this because it reminds me of myself back in 1981.
the safety slippers are a nice touch.
Steeltoed too😂
A young guy with old school technology. I enjoy watching your video’s and as an old Guy I learn from you. 👌🏻
There's hope for our society yet, right?
I LOVE watching these sows! Excellent, methodical work, no mindless talking, etc. make the steps GREAT!
I can’t watch Mortske, or Puddin’, Uncle Tony, or Vicegrip anymore. This is the one…⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I really like your vídeos, i learn a lot from them , and the best part is that they don't have those boring song and conversations.
Best mechanic I've seen on TH-cam. I am amazed.
Uh... OK... I think I just got zapped back to 1973... Oh wait, that's an EFI ingine you're installing. Great work 😃😃😃
Excellent, enjoyed again. Graffiti Town was apocalyptic and wonderful with the V8 soundtrack. Wonderful.
I really love your work, especially those who give the small details as much care as the big issues ! Thank you and stay safe !❤

Thanks for taking the time to read the description and understand my reasoning. One day I’d love to ditch the LS setup
Oh yea you will-good luck though with the new setup -really enjoy your videos too

Old time hot rodding in the year 2024:)
The one-man hood removal technique! Approved.
New most favorite channel ever!!!!!😊
Unbelievable mechanical talent. That little drive reminded me of the twin cities, more like St. Paul.
This is my favorite of all your cars! Wish I could afford one!

This great sound remembers me to the Mustang in Bullit. V8 and shifting gears, perfect!
Sorry man, but 26:20 had me laughing. Heaven knows I've had my share of "oh SHIT!" moments like that. 😂
im impressed with how quiet he stays. Not a single sound out from him.
Great job Simon (not the Fire lol) the Engine sounds good 👍
That was epic. 😂
It’s a ‘bostin’ channel! As already said by many, can’t wait for more.
That 289 engine would look real nice in your Falcon.
Working flip-flop? Cool !
Simon, I think you may need a shop in the country? So good. Excellent videos
Oh, The old Ford Steam and Power plant. Used to do testing of equipment there once upon a time.
That fire was expected.... :D i was watching and was shocked when you light it after spraying the flammable cleaner :D
Sounds really good!
audacious, creative and smart... i like it. you do good work.
Good looking car - should be a lot of fun! Ford had finally caught up to GM with clean, modern good looks by this time.
I really don't know what you mean Ford finally caught up to Chevy😅
Good show, Simon.
What older guy taught you how to do this?
I love the V8 sound
Like your style, subbed👌
i put an injected 5 litre wndsor wit electronic 4 speed box into my 1981 xd falcon utility. work well, drives like a new car now.
wit you mean with speak english

Greetings. Why did you take the engine from the 4d4? That car looked in better shape than the 2dr. Thanks
The roof on the 4dr was rusted out due to it being a vinyl top car, it also had lots more rust overall.
Got to get me sum of those safety slippers.
keep a fire extinguisher handy you never know
Exceptional
Ford tough with Chevy stuff 👍
Respect is Due.😎
Me hice adicto a tus videos e aprendido mucho tengo una f150 1976 que estoy restaurando .
Me gustaria saber donde aprendiste quiente enseño.

Yes, it has the factory Chevy Avalanche ECM/PCM
What did you do with the 289? looking for one for my 64 Ranchero.
Sounds great, I presume it's a worthwhile conversion?

DUEL😅😅
Hi Simon, question: Is the Southdale Mall closed yet in Edina? Thanks for your videos. Out.
They're still bustling

Proof that a $120.00 ryobi works just as good as a $300.00 Milwaukee
🤣🚒🔥 Seus videos são otimos! seus carros melhor ainda! parabéns!
what was wrong with the donor car? it almost looks in better shape.
Where did he find a "donor" car that had already been LS swapped?
Mmmmmm yes....Cathedral ports....
GOOD JOB
The ONLY thing I DONT like about this video is,,, you got your Monkees shirt dirty !! That should be reserved for car shows and such 😁👍🇺🇸
Looks like old Minneapolis / Saint Paul

I like your video but I would have never installed a Chevy engine in a Ford you could install the 5l coyote
I like the 5.0 Coyote too but this swap was on a budget. One day I'd like to put a ford motor back in it
27:00 lol🤣
Breaks my heart you chose a 5.3 when there are so many Coyotes out there, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do. Your skill level is admirable otherwise.
coyote was way out of my price range
what are those seats out of?
84 to 85 Celica Supra. I have an 85 2jz swapped.
“Donor” car? It ran and drove! What was wrong with IT?
Why did you disrespect your name and the 65 ford by using an engine from Shanghai Motors( formerly GM)?
Eargasm!
I like your videos so much
But why are you doing the swap? The donor car looks in much better shape than yours
He dont say much lol but always lets us know what he is doing

Nice swap, and bitchin' car.
Looks like an ex police car in its making the efi should be sufficient for the weight of this project 2 doors hard to find
i would stuck with the ford family of engines in my project.
