Okay so on the vanilla extract... The reason they have that surprise seal is because alcohol evaporates. If they didn't seal it completely the bottle would be empty after sitting on the store shelf for months. I do agree that the other seal on the exterior is unnecessary too.
@@msmiami212 It does at a very slow rate as long as you keep the cap screwed tight on the bottle. You won't lose much if you keep it on. If you leave the cap off however you'll probably have an empty bottle in a week at room temperature.

@@recoil53 Yeah they really went to some Gucci grocery store if Bob's Red Mill flour was the cheapest they could find. If they went to a normal grocery store and bought some brand staples (Hershey's chocolate chips, Gold Medal flour, Roger's sugar, regular cows milk) then it probably would have been an additional $10 cheaper. So not only would it be cheaper than buying 0 waste, you could also get more for your money.
Yeah I'm all for them trying to promote zero waste but at least be honest about it and don't try to bend the facts to fit your narrative 🙄 If it is more expensive, people should know and be ready to accept that as a consequence.

No shade I love zero waste options! But I’m pretty sure immunodeficient people highly appreciate the double seals. People with weak immune systems are at way higher risk than the average person and want to feel secure knowing things were extra sealed and have the lowest chance of contamination or people messing with it. Also a lot of disposable stuff helps those people too, knowing everything is totally sanitary for them. I think more companies need to focus instead of taking away those things, providing cheap biodegradable options! Like seals that can handle the alcohol in the extract, but won’t take 400 years to break down and give back to the earth. But I feel like instead of doing that so many people are focused on completely eliminating things like this, which scares people with low immune systems for the fear they will have to settle for things that are more likely to be compromised 😕
I love when you fabulous ladies do these challenges. It’s so informative and y’all make it fun!!! I’m always amazed by the amount of waste, and how “not crazy” it ends up being buying bulk ingredients with your own containers. And soooo many “ah ha!!” moments. THANK YOU!!!!
Every holiday I make butter with heavy cream. I make a honey butter just by adding honey. And a garlic butter. I also always make homemade whipped cream. You can literally just pour some out of the bottle and shake it right in the bottle. But I put it in a Pyrex container and shake in that. For whipped cream you can use a hand mixer. With butter you’ll shake it, it’ll turn to whipped cream, then all the sudden you’ll feel it “break” where suddenly it goes from whipped cream to a hard lump of butter and some butter milk.
