Not going to lie, she’s one of my favorite people from buzzfeed. She’s so keen on helping out environment and making a difference (both personal and environmental) which is inspiring.
If you are finding it hard at first, what my family did was we made an eco brick with any plastic we couldn't recycle. You could look it up, there's plenty of info about them online.
When you need to buy something, I'd say to always be thinking, do I have something at home that I could use for this purpose? Or could I borrow it? Minimising consumption is a good way to reduce waste! As for food waste, just do your best within your budget to reduce packaging.
I want to do the same. The first thing I want to do is completely stop using plastic water bottles because I have 2 reusable ones and a big 2 litter one. It’s easy and saves so much waste. I’m going to try to bring my own cup when getting coffee out from now one too. I don’t really know how to start doing zero waste but I’m definitely going to be doing thsi
you obviously didn't read the comments made at the time that i wrote my comment. People went on and on about how nobody cares about what she's doing and so on. I wouldn't just make something like that up. Why would i ?
I love this girl she is super cute (her nose is wonderful with the little freckles) she is a modern Hippy trying her best to live a life that does not just take from the planet. I love when her videos pop to see what she is trying this time. And they always give me a new insight to life and where we can better ourselves in some small way. Like trying not to make as much trash as we do.
Dave Meades did you just assume all of the haters make tons of trash? I am definitely a hater but I don't produce an absurd amount of trash and I don't litter.
You guys are so weird making fun of her or asking why this video should matter. She's showing you that you can do something, like backpacking for example, without creating trash on your journey. This is just one example of something you can do without making trash and hurting the environment. If you've seen some of her other videos you'd know she's passionate about not creating a ton of waste / unnecessary garbage that will end up in a landfill. Maybe use common sense and see why a video demonstrating this stuff can be important.
Josh Jonathan this is about educating a wide population. Loads of people watch buzzfeed and it's good that this is a video they are doing! It has a lot of different messages: you can create zero waste, women can travel by themselves, doing something for yourself can help you figure out some things in life.
Josh Jonathan what was the point of your comment? Of course other people backpack without creating a bunch of garbage but she’s using the platform of buzzfeed to show a huge audience that you can do every day things without leaving trash everywhere. It’s important to showcase this considering how much garbage is in our environment currently.
If your shoulders are hurting the weight of your backpack is the wrong place, it should be in the strap around your waist not on your shoulders - in future sit on the ground push your backpack up and tighten the waist strap really tightly this should relieve the strain on your shoulders xx
Imagine the rest of those insufferable Buzzfeed SJW doing that kind of outdoor videos. "Manspreading in the Grand Canyon: will tourists mind?" "Are gays allowed in the forest?" "Why is nobody growing pumpkins on the PCT?
I'm not quite sure why some people are complaining or are confused. This is the same sort of things vloggers do she just made a better quality video. I know some people find her annoying but you just have to try and warm up to her. After watching enough of her videos you'll like her more. ❤
I really don't understand the negative comments? This is wholesome and inspiring and she's so sweet and positive like I really love her vibes, I admire her inner strength and sense of self. Love her vids wanna see more! 🖤
I hope you can make zero waste wedding series.. it would be super fun to watch. Collaborate with tasty for the foods and nifty for decoration.. I know its a big project, but if youcan doccument it all process, i hope more people will get more excited for this zero waste / no plastick life style.
I don't get why there's so many people hating on this video. If you don't like and appreciate zero waste video's don't watch it? And there's so many people commenting about the purpose of this video, and it's called "Caring for your body and the planet", you should try it sometime.
Hugo Gonzalez I have a ? About zero waste. Is it necessary to take your apple cores back w you to compost? Wouldn’t it be acceptable to leave them behind ( off the trail) for animals/ insects to consume? Since it’s obviously biodegradable ...
@@natalierozean5989 it depends. Usually, you can, and it would only be common sense to leave compost behind (fruit peels, apple cores, etc), but I know that some parks don't allow hikers to leave organic matter behind. It's best to ask park managers/land owners before your hike.
Josh Jonathan you have to befriend people when you backpack so you can learn from them or rely on one another for help but obviously be cautious and use your best judgement
This is definitely a great way to release stress and get out of your comfort zone and along the way, you even made a couple of friends. I believe that you are strong, independent, selfless, and caring women standing out for others, yourself, and the environment.
„I woke up before my alarm. I‘m very ready.“ is such a powerful sentence. Others would say they‘re nervous, which she was probably too, but turning that nervous feeling into excitement and confidence is one of the best things you can do. Keep it up Ari, you strong human being!

But New Zealand offers some really good and unique tracks.

Lmao all these negative comments.... You guys try hiking and filming. It is not easy at all. This girl is amazing for doing this and showing how it's possible for anyone. I'm guessing the ones dismissing this video' either really dislike nature or are ashamed of their health/fitness. Which is heartbreaking cause you're not living life to its full potential. Stop dragging people down just cause you can't do it.
First of all: I think it's great that Ari tried herself at backpacking. And it's a great video. It shows why we all love this activity so much: the views, the physical exercise, the interactions with fellow hikers, the self reflection, the lessons learned ... She really seemed to enjoy herself. Kudos to her for figuring out her body and adapting on the trail. That's some advanced backpacker stuff right there! And she seemed to be well prepared generally, with her gear, the mapping material, the food etc... But I also gotta say that this "zero waste approach" is nothing new, let alone original. Quite the opposite: It is actually quite common for backpackers/hikers to minimize any potential for waste from the get go and pack out any trash. That is what we call "Leave No Trace" ethics - LNT in short. It consists of 7 principles, all aimed at minimizing your impact on the environment, by - simply put - leaving the outdoors just as you found 'em. AND: waste is weight you HAVE to carry. That's why backpackers try and start with as little waste potential as possible. Littering is just not an option. As for the Jetboil at 3:41 ... You don't need the middle piece when only boiling water in a pod. The Jetboil is a compact cooking system. Meaning the pod connects directly to the stove. That middle piece is only needed when using a frying pan or a pod from a different system or brand. It allows you to use devices which would not directly connect to the stove :) Anyway, this was meant as additional information. And not as criticism. The outdoor community is a very welcoming and inclusive community. We all love to see new faces out here and we are all eager to help newcomers in any way we can.

LikeO LikeH I can do it. I'm fit and like nature. I am not a feminist and hate buzzfeed. Those are our differences
ohhemmgeeitsjenna What? Lmfaaooooo please explain the relevance of being a feminist?
Josh Jonathan And for the record I'm not a feminist. Lol but thanks for assuming.
LikeO LikeH wut? I said I agree with you
First of all: I think it's great that Ari tried herself at backpacking.
It allows you to use devices which would not directly connect to the stove :)
Anyway, this was meant as additional information. And not as criticism. The outdoor community is a very welcoming and inclusive community. We all love to see new faces out here and we are all eager to help newcomers in any way we can.
