    🔥 There’s one skill that separates great IT Project Managers from everyone else-project tailoring.
    Most project managers get stuck trying to learn every new tool and process out there. They dive deep into theories but still struggle to deliver projects on time and within budget. It’s frustrating.
    The truth is, great project managers don’t try to do it all-they focus on tailoring simple processes and tools that work best for their team and projects. That’s what creates transparency, predictability, and results.
    But here’s the thing-tailoring isn’t just guessing what might work. It’s about knowing three critical components:
    1) Understanding project management on a deeper level.
    2) Knowing exactly what to tailor.
    3) Applying it effectively in real companies with real people.
    That’s why I created the Professional Development Plan for IT Project Managers-to help you master project tailoring and finally become the project manager who delivers every time, no matter the challenge.
    ✅ Click the link below to get your development plan now and take the next step toward mastering project management.

    I'm about to make this change and starting my first PM job after 17 years of being a programmer and I will say I am scared to death of it but I hope I can make it because I don't want to try and be a programmer forever.

    Dmitriy, you are inspirational. What keeps me from being a PM? OK, I have 6-years plus program experience with HP, and have numerous projects as both a contractor and an employee, but with the Covid job-market, well, things are slow. In any event, I have just completed a PMP certification program at U.C. Davis last month, and I am reading a exam prep book by Rita Mulcahy, to prepare myself for the exam. I apply to few positions that I find I can comfortable relocate to, but no response...as I live in a more rural area of California. What am I missing?

    I have a PMP certification but no experience in IT. What certifications and courses do you recommend to get into this industry ?

    • @ITProjectManagers
      @ITProjectManagers  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’m biased here because I have an online course that covers this exact topic. So, I do recommend it.
      The course teaches practical project management and agile frameworks. You’ll learn how to apply the theory you learned in PMP.
      Also, students see a great value in my step-by-step leadership approach that teaches how to lead your team and manage stakeholders.
      Besides that you get career development advice on how to become a PM and how to rapidly build your career.

    Hi,
    I am Chandrakant from India. I have my bachelor's degree in technology in Mechanical Engineering branch. Currently i am working in Strategic Sourcing and Direct Procurement department in tractor industry since 1 year. I am willing to shift to IT industry by doing master's degree in IT project management. Right now, i am confused whether i should choose IT project management or just master's in Project management. It will very kind of you if you could help me with my decision.

    • @ITProjectManagers
      @ITProjectManagers  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would get for the IT Project Management. Overall, project management in the IT industry is completely different from other industries. We rarely use general principles of PM and tend towards agile methodologies. Planning, budgeting, execution are different.
      But I believe that getting a degree is way too much to get started as a project manager. No degree, certification or gaining more "unrelated experience" will prepare you for the role of a Project Manager. You’ll rapidly learn everything you need in the process. If you want to get more prepared for real-world project management, I would recommend getting my Practical Project Management Course. It will teach you everything you need to know for the first 3-5 years of your career as a PM. Including, step-by-step instructions on how to become a great leader. You can find the link to the course below each video.

    I have a business major, worked as a management assistant for 2 years and 3 years as a Front End Developer, is it possible to transition to a IT Project manager role?

    • @ITProjectManagers
      @ITProjectManagers  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sure, I don’t see any showstoppers for you. Just keep in mind that any dramatic change in career leads to downgrade in salary. If you are OK to get through it - you can become a PM.
      On tip I have for you - do upgrade your CV and keep only achievements relevant for a PM role. Focusing too much on your technical background won’t help you.

    I've opted for Business Analytics (more data oriented) and Project management-IT. Will business analytics (Semi technical skills) will give an added advantage in project management career? As I'll have knowledge of data and management ?

    • @ITProjectManagers
      @ITProjectManagers  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Varun,
      It will give you variety in work. Sometimes employers do need PM and BA in one person. But in most cases, they just want to save money. So, you’ll simply have to do more work.
      With some experience you learn that it’s better not to use your technical skills on a project. You should lead the project on a higher level operating with scope, schedule, budget, risks, etc. You need to let your team make all technical decisions and business analysis. You use your technical skill just to verify their decisions.
      Moreover, if you are a full-time project manager, you business analysis skills will quickly become less efficient. A dedicated BSA with lots of practice will do the work better. Likewise, you as a dedicated project manager will do better your part of the work.
      I hope it makes sense. Please let me know if you have any questions.

    • @ITProjectManagers

      What about network+ security +? ITIL?

    • @ITProjectManagers
      @ITProjectManagers  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@00_meghnath, ITIL is a very expensive path. I would get sponsorship from employer. Network+Security strongly depends on technology that you use. So, generic knowledge is not that valuable. But it might be valuable if you want to focus on infrastructure project not software development. You need to start with smaller projects. If you have extensive experience as a project manager in another industry there will be downgrade in salary and no certificate will fix that.

    • @ITProjectManagers
      @ITProjectManagers  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, for the later response. To me it’s one of the following:
      1. You don’t live in an area with lots of projects in your desired industry.
      2. You don’t position yourself as a leader and manager in your CV (in case recruiters don’t write you back.)
      Which one do you think is more likely?

      @@ITProjectManagers Thanks for getting back to me and thank you for your awesome videos. it is def the first one. i had all my 10 years carrier in Oil & Gas ( engineering part) but currently moved to an area with no oil & gas industry however it is a high in IT field, which i do not seem to be able to get into.
      Also COVID-19 is not helping. my area has a very high unemployment rate, which make so competitive specially with someone from a different back ground.
      I had my resume professionally written and i actually get lots of good feed back on it from recruiters and account mangers from a recruiting companies ( not a hiring company).
