I’m still not selling my A7RIII but I will be using my A7III from this point on for photography🤙 Also check out my merch here: geni.us/MannyMerch I appreciate the support!
After my discovery of your TH-cam channel where I learned a lot of different things, (including full frame Sony camera) i decided to buy my A7III. I’m playing with it for twelve days and I’m so happy with it! Thanks you so much Manny!
People nowadays are so focused on post processing that they forget about the art of photography and nailing the perfect exposure at the point of trigger. At which point, they shouldn't call themselves photographers but post processing artist
I had the A7Riii, when I got the a7iii, I dumped the a7Riii. That was a mistake. I take a lot of group shots. Sometimes large groups. I now just re purchased the a7Riii. No problems with group shots anymore. The clarity from the 42mp is just so much better. I guess it all depends on what you are shooting. For closeups, the a7iii is fine, but not when you need the image to retain the smallest details. And don’t forget the cropping factor or the dynamic range the a7Riii gives you.
I've been bothered by my getting the A7III instead of the RIII but you just listed some key reasons why I will stick to my A7III after all, especially that workflow where I don't want to spend hours editing and indeed I want those 60 options vs 6 shots due to SDCARD spacing. Thank you for that :)
Manny, the a7r3 evf has greater resolution. If you are an evf shooter, and especially if you use manual lenses, there is no competition. I have recently upgraded to a7r3 from a7m2 and the resolution of the evf makes huge difference in shooting experience. It's so much easier to focus with it.
The a7R3 is really a hard sell with the A7iii available new for $1200 less. I don't shoot photos but just like you switched from the R3 and how have 2 A7iii's. For video you get better AF, more detailed 4K and 1080P 120FPS, it seems like slightly better battery life and almost everything else matches up. 👍
Yeah if you're gonna post to social mainly, A7III makes the most sense. Especially if you're gonna shoot mostly wide open anyway. If you're shooting wide open portraits, the eyes are sharp, and the rest of the image is "wasting" the resolution of the A7R anyway, since it's blurring away anyway. Might as well drop down. Save money, save file size, keep bokeh whoring. Makes sense to me
This is exactly how I feel. I had purchased an A7RIII for a week and realized I wasn't doing the extra MP's and justice just posting to IG and FB. I had initially thought I'd use the extra MP's to be able to crop but I don't have a lens that would need that nor does Sony really offer one...yet (like the Nikon 200-500). I ended up returning it and getting the A7iii instead. Noise is noticably less than the RIII. I'm very happy with it (and the 24-105 f4).
Nathan Elcoate How large do you want to print? Even at poster size you’d be hard pressed to tell the difference. Do you have fine art gallery exhibitions of your work? Then yeah, go with the A7riii
Just switched over to an A7iii from a 77D and I love it! Also I wanted to thank you for always uploading links to your gear in the description. Really appreciate that!
But still not as good as X-T20, right? ;) But honestly I compared raw files form A7III and Fuji recently and Sony seems at least 2 stops better in noise. I am thinking about switching. When are you coming with some review on your channel? We are waiting ;)
I have both. I use the 7RIII for sports/action, wide-angle portrait work and the 7III for portraits. My 7R had horrible orange skin casts so I sent it back to Sony. They recalibrated the sensor and it’s now amazing!
Yeah I just got an a7rii because I like to be able to crop. I love being able to recompose my shots without losing a lot of information and still come out with a nice crisp photo in the end. It's not uncommon for me to crop out 50-70% of a photo. I know some people might hear that and say I need to work on composition in the field but I live by the idea that I can always crop in but I can never crop out. So I tend to capture more than necessary just in case I wasn't to recomp later.
@@Coach_Chris_ Never wait on Sony. If you can find a good deal on a A7iii buy it. Get the lenses you want then sell the body once you're ready to upgrade.
@@Coach_Chris_ it depends what you're buying it for. The a73 is work horse for both video and pics. You don't get too much detail that creates more work when taking pics but your images still look amazing. The r4 is going to be pricy when it comes out.
I feel your pain on how big the photos are and fills up your drive. But the detail is so beautiful . I think I will keep mine because it was a gift from my family and I know I can always just backup my photos as soon as a session is done and clear the photos off my drive .
Ipad generation is complaining about disk space. Get a real computer problem solved. Real computer like one you need a fat ugly guy to repair it and not some skinny hipsters in some space looking gallery :D
If Sony would only allow us to shoot smaller RAW files like Canon this wouldn’t be an issue. Seems like a not so hard thing to do. We need to be asking for this at all the Sony events.
At the same time, unless there's a *really* killer feature for you that a higher megapixel camera has over the lower one (which there just might be), you may as well save yourself the money and buy the camera that shoots the size you want.
I shoot quite a bit with canon before moving to Sony, and shooting with smaller size raw than the native resolution, it degrades the files, it does the full read out and then down-sample, I used to do it all the time for my timelapse as I've always exported the final in HD anyway, I've realized and compared them, I've also read quite a few people saying the same in forums, like azenturi said, if you want to shoot smaller, just buy a camera the shoot smaller.
I own both. My a7iii is my main body tho. I do sports photography. But when I do portrait shots I love using my A7rIII. My portrait stuff has to be as crisp as possible since it’s used for promotions.
Good Call Manny! 95% of my shooting is landscapes, and i don't do it for a living, so the A7R3 is my baby, but i'd LOVE to justify the A7III solely for portraits for all these reasons, the 42mpx is a killer for sure, speshly in Lightroom, not so much in Capture 1
I picked an A7III for filming my YT channel assuming that would be all I used it for and I would continue to use my Nikon D850 for photos. After playing with A7III for a bit I noticed my D850 was never coming out of the bag. So I decided to trade in my D850 and get another A7III. I thought about the R but for much the same reasons you mentioned I decided it wasn't worth the extra cost. Jason
I switched in the opposite direction. I was able to pick up an on sale, open box a7riii for $2350 from Best buy. So I returned my a7iii (which I paid 2300 for because the kit was the only one available). I enjoy the photography experience better on the a7riii. The improved viewfinder makes such a difference. Also I print alot so the more megapixels work better. I crop alot too and even with heavy cropping I end up with about 24mp images. If I didn't get that steep a discount on the a7riii I would have def stuck with the a7iii.
I want to get the A7iii as well. for those of you that have the A7RIII and find file size too big, you can reduce the file size in the menu to 18mp, which may be too small, but still can help for certain shoots. The A7III also has great low light especially for video.
Been ragging on Sony since the a7Riii dropped that they need to include a small and medium raw option like in the D850/D810. It’s the only reason I haven’t bought an a7Riii - I just can’t handle that many megapixels day to day! But I’d love to have the option when needed.
The small RAW on the D850 is horrible though. It's not sharp, and that's a problem. So if they do wind up putting something like that in there, they need to at least make sure it's sharp.
JME WILLIAMS oh ok so no need. I currently shoot with a D500; was thinking to add a D850 next year. Have you tried the uncompressed raw settings? If so any difference in quality?
you can still crop a lot with 24 mp.. i did kinda the same thing when I had a d850 than got a d750 for a backup but liked it more than the 850.. never really used the 850 again. just sold it... then I got the z6 and a7 lll . 24 mp is the sweet spot for me. I will never go over 30 mp ever again. glad to see you figured it out too
I've got the A7RII. I am not a professional photographer by trait, more of a hobbiest with an occasional paid gig. I am the type to wait until the new model comes out, they clearance the one being replaced and then I use the extra cash to get better glass. It's always worked for me and may work for others looking to get into or shooting photos as a hobby.
Flash forward to 2021 and both are virtually the same price on the used market now!. I just traded my a73 straight up for an a7R3 today! We both had right around 9k on the shutter. I get nearly twice the resolution, better sensor, better EVF and better rear LCD. I'll take that all day! In fact, the a7R3 sensor still sits atop DXO Mark for the best Sony sensor available. I shoot portraits but I never know when Im going to book a wedding or get a print job for a magazine. Feel much better with the resolution of the a7R3.
Nooo😭 Igot my A7riii while debating on a canon but seeing all the amazing work you could do with the A7riii and also because of your amazing work, I was blown away. I got got it 4 months ago📸
This feels like a sponsored video to sell more A7IIIs because the A7RIII buyers already know what they want. The reasons here are borderline ridiculous. File sizes can be batch changed in processing if needed. Resolution can’t be amped up on the A7III. Lightroom slows down with 2mpix images. Get Capture One and you can have as large a files as you want without any slowdown. If you can’t afford an A7RIII, A7III is fine. But there certainly is no reason to “switch”. Also, the A7RIII is really in a class by itself. If considering the A7III, then you open up a world of competitive considerations that give you similar features and outputs for an even lower price.
You can get a portable 5 TB external hd for $120 new. I paid $220 for a 128 GB UHS-II card by Sony for slot one in my A7Riii.... and space is an issue? Manny has his FF vs Crop sensor video showing almost no difference between the FF and APS-C shots - where you can downsize your file sizes to 18mp by shooting in APS-C mode - if the 42mp is too much. This video isn’t authentic. I delete off shots, who needs them - definitely not the client and especially not me.
I applaud you for being honest in this rat race of the latest and greatest gear for megapixels, fps, sensor size, dynamic range, video capabilities, value and brand to admit that you don't have to use the top of the line most expensive gear to get the results you need.
Hi,thanks for your review. If I had to choose one camera, I'd choose the Sony A7 Riii doubtless. You haven't mention that the Sony A7R iii in crop mode has 18 MP while the Sony A7iii only 8 MP.Bye!
Hi Manny...I wish it was only 200 images for me. For my average shoot for ELLE magazine for example, I will shoot 12-14 pages and for that between 1100-1400 images. Kind of like 3 rolls of 36 exposures per clothing change. I still think analog. I am shooting Haute Couture this weekend on Friday and Sunday and will do around 24 pages total, so will probably shoot over 2000 images...so 200 images would be a dream scenario for me. I am using Capture One Pro for the editing and once our selects are made, they are exported as 16 bit TIFF's to PS for tweaking and then off to our retoucher before sending to the magazine. Looks like a nice camera...but I am kind of committed to two systems, Nikon FF 4 bodies and Fujifilm X series 5 bodies. But most stuff is great these days, so that doesn't matter. To be honest, even 24 megapixels is overkill for most magazines and adverts .Keep up the great vlog! 🙂
100% agree 24mp is more then most users need. I have now ff 36mp and apsc 16mp and a7iii will be next cos it's first Sony with everything what I need and I can easily use my favourite cannon lenses...
Oh my gosh, no... I have both cameras, and I beg to differ. The RM3 has a depth in the images...freshness in the colors... that the M3 doesn't. I know, it's only 1 bit difference... on paper. But in my images, I see more. Whenever I compare pictures from the RM3 and the M3 taken on the same set, almost always I can tell which is which, because the RM3 pictures have more "breath", more air. I can understand the file size and disk space concern, in fact when I shoot weddings, the M3 becomes my main camera, for file size reason except for the spouses portraits, where the RM3 takes over. But the disk space is an easy issue to address: delete. Pick the pictures that are the winners, and delete the rest. You're never going to use the second best pictures anyway. Get rid of them, keep only the winners, disk space issue resolved. All studio work, and outdoors model work is RM3 for me. And, I print a lot. That adds to the value of the RM3 greatly.
I cannot understand the space concern. It's like spending a couple of thousand dollars/euros on camera stuff but can't aford a 100 buck external Harddrive and like 2-6 128gb SDs?! Prices on storage are low these days (except you wanna overkill with like 12TB HDD or stuff like this)... So space - for me - isn't the issue. Even if you do not delete...
@@amentet actually depends on the hard and software. For me, it doesn't really make that huge of a difference ^^ Sure, I'm rocking an i7, but things really are slowing down if you're using really weak PC Hardware or when the programs aren't that well optimized which I personally think of at least Lightroom ...
I love my A7RIII and not selling it and getting an A7III also so I'll have the best of both worlds! Third generation full frame Sony A-series cameras rock no matter which one you get! Always love your videos Manny....keep 'em coming!!!
@@EverythingFilmmaking hi man thanks for the reply, but im saying without crop, the same picture and same lens on different cameres is the image quality different?
I was an A7III fan for a long time but was never completely satisfied with the image quality Since I got the a7riii I have been very satisfied and am sticking with it
Hey I have a question for you! I’m looking at the A7riii . It’s on sale so I have to hurry and make a decision. When you shoot in crop mode, does that make the file size smaller? I’m kind of leery of those huge files. Also do the focus points then fill up the frame? I shoot mostly dogs but I like to shoot landscape sometimes so I would like to have the option of a lot of megapixels.
@@karim1485 that’s awesome news since I literally just hit pay on Adorama! I saw your reply pop up and I was saying.. “this better be good news” now here’s another question when you put it into crop mode do the focus points reach closer to the edges? I’m thinking they might not but it would be great if they did.
No, actually they don't, as you guessed correctly, it is a software limitation. I don't know where you came from but I upgraded from an A6000 and the focus is nothing I ever worried about. I tried out an A7S2 once, that was horrible. A7R2 focus shouldn't disappoint you too much, though I guess after 4 years there certainly is better
I feel you Manny, I recently picked up an A7III as a backup, But then I was floating around with whether my Lightroom workflow would be smoother and faster if I switched over to it over my A7RIII. I might end up doing the same thing for file size and convenience, and just use my A7RIII for travel or when the job calls for greater resolution. Glad to hear I’m not the only one that grapples with the same feelings!
Manny, I also had considerations along the lines you bring up here. But instead of taking the economical loss exchanging my 2 x 7R3 for 2 x 7III, I am downsampling the 7R3 files to 24 MP during import. I can assure you that pays off on the IQ side about the 7R3 which files almost becomes analog .... that clean the files are. The detail level is IMO more impressive than that of the 42MP files. It simply looks more natural. Furthermore the files are more clean than the 7III and the DR a tad better even.
I’ve been using the R versions since the A7Rii mainly for the continuous Eye AF that it featured but also the image quality was unmatched! The files though were murder on CPU, HD space, and worst the ever slowing down of LR. Although the image quality was amazing, I really didn’t need the 42mp. The A7Riii was introduced (before A7iii) and the specs where awesome and I figured the A7iii would have near the same specs. I happily purchased the A7Riii and still love it to this day. Then Sony shocked the industry and set a new bar for quality and value on a full frame camera let alone a mirrorless. The specs honestly were more impressive because of the unbelievable price point. That was the camera I really needed but it came out after the A7Riii. Now I’m still happy with the A7Riii and I too tend to over shoot. Thankfully drive space is pretty affordable nowadays. The image quality and resolution still continue to impress me so I’m still happy to own it. What would solve my issue and possibly yours (Manny Ortiz along with many others), is if Sony would simply add Small and Medium RAW size options like other camera manufactures. I’ve been screaming for this since the A7Rii. Not sure why Sony won’t add that feature! It would make sense as someone who spends more on an A7Riii will have the ability to cover the range of the A7iii. That being said, I’m sure Sony would rather people have to buy multiple camera bodies. Pros and amateurs tend to need more than one body. Sony please add Small and Med RAW options! YMMV PS: Add fully articulating screen on the side for the upcoming rumored video centric models A7Siii and A7000. I actually prefer front tilting up screens (A6400) for photography.
@Big Ant TV Media LLC the difference is about 12mp between the two. Uncompressed A7R3 is about 80mb and compressed about 40mb. I shoot Compressed for the smaller files. It’s probably not going to be a huge difference but I believe the 5D4 does have separable RAW sizes available as a feature.
WELCOME TO THE A7iii REVOLUTION BROTHER! I am obsessed with this camera. I love mine I've had since release. I'm so curious to hear your thoughts once you fully transition and shoot with it for a few shoots. Put up a follow-up video comparing your experience!! I'd watch that!
Yup Manny!! Totally agree. That's why I will shoot APS-C mode (mostly) with the A7R3 for weddings and events. Smaller file sizes, faster writing / copying speed, and a waaaay better workflow in post, especially since these events will come with several thousand photos. Pretty much only use the A7R3 now with studio work. Have been seriously considering selling my A7R3 and buying an additional A73. The megapixel hype was initially what got me, but I quickly realized it doesn't work with my workflow. That's not to say that the A7R3 isn't a bomb ass camera, because it definitely is. Just depends on the work I'm doing.
Manny keep the A7RIII in case you ever do a commercial shoot, where they expect the large file size. I do have an A7III, but use it for video work. If my images only went to the web or if I only shot e-comm, then the 7III would do the trick! I crop in camera, so I don't have to crop very often and no more than 20%, so that is not a concern for me. Also, as to not bog down Lr, I do a first edit in Photo Mechanic, because it's super fast and then I can take only the selects into Lr for processing. CaptureOne for tethering, and as someone here said, it doesn't care about the file size. My image count typically ranges anywhere from 100 to 15,000 images, depending on the job, I can't imagine culling a large job solely in Lr. Continued success!
Respectfully, not relating to the premise here. First, it doesn't matter how trigger-happy you are as a shooter -- just get in the habit of deleting all but the best photos, and storage won't be an issue. (Why would you even want to keep sub-par shots and keep seeing them over and over again?) Second, high percentage cropping can be very, very useful in post. But in a situation you're *sure* you won't need to crop, you can always shoot the a7R3 in APS-C mode anytime you want at 18MP/image, for very respectable and printable shots. I'm keeping my R3! Still enjoy your videos. Good luck!
James Taylor it’s really no the thing for stills so much, it has one stop lesser of dynamic range and the colours aren’t that good. But when talking speed, there’s nothing better
Welcome to the club Manny! A7III better low light, better focusing with files that are suitable for most people. Also, no crop in 4k 24p :) What size hoodie you got on? I'm copping for sure!
The high megapixel count only is an advantage when you have studio light or perfect lit scene. If the A7RIII must go up in ISO you are losing dynamic range and edge to edge sharpness very fast - you basically get nearly the same results with the A7III and you blow up the resolution to the A7RIII and compare the images - you will see they are getting identical the more you raise ISO. To me, the A7RIII feels a little like a landscape seller with reduced functionality - if you really want to get something out of this camera for really good landscapes compared to the FUJI medium format line - then you got to use Pixelshift and hope nothing is moving - otherwise stick to the A7III because when it's not pixel-shift the image will not change your game.
I've went trough the same. Upgraded from a7r2 to a7iii and it's such a relieve not to deal with all the storage it eats up. It's nice to crop from 43mpx but probably do only 1-2 pictures out of 100
Smaller RAW size options would make the A7RIII a beast and would take the guess work out of which camera would be the "go to". Hopefully Sony is listening.
@@djovak3236 Ohh well congrats! In fact I just finished school and I'll be going to university Yeah when am going to work I'll try to buy one. Can't wait haha
@Manny I would love to hear your input on this, now that the A7R IV has been released, and the A7RIII is only about $500 more than the A7III Would you recommend going for the 7-R3 instead of the 7-3? For my personal style, 42MP is overkill, I don't crop my images that much, and don't do video, but having an improved EVF, Monitor screen... it's tempting. Also, I've heard the R3 has twice the shutter longevity of the 7-3... and although bodies have the same shape, the R3 is weather sealed(better?) and body itself is more durable? Love to hear your thoughts. Thanks!
Not editing out your mistakes is a big plus. Most people are scared to do that. It feels more real and gives confidence to people like me who’s not that great in front of cameras. Great job man!
I’m getting my a7iii very soon! Switch from Canon!!!! I wish the canon lens adapters worked well for video too (I’m a filmmaker and photographer). Sigma MC-11 works only for photography I hear (AF is important to me in video and photo). Don’t want to spend so much on native Sony glass when I already invested so much on Canon glass... what a world
1. I'm curious to see if the upcoming firmware update will have any influence on that. Probably not, but we'll see. I'm hoping for AF-C support for Canon's non-USM lenses myself. 2. Do you change lenses a lot for your video work? How wide an aperture do you need? Just looked at your channel. Wouldn't the 16-35mm GM have you covered for most of what you do? Or do you need primes for the wider apertures?
@@bioliv1 My 50/1.4 USM worked flawlessly through my MC-11. I only ditched it because it simply didn't look good enough wide open. It had Eye-AF, AF-C, and focus points across the entire screen. In fact it's one of the Canon lenses that I've tested that performed that has performed best adapted. So I suspect you may gave a very early model, or even a slightly defective one. I did try one copy that worked oerfectly on Canon bodies, but not at all when I adapted it. Changed the circuit board in it, and it too worked flawlessly. EDIT: Well, when I say "flawlessly", I mean within the known limitations when adapting Canon glass. You are of course correct about the missing DMF support. By the way, is both the adapter and camera updated to the latest firmware?
Torben Lysholm my usual go to’s for video are my sigma 18-35 f/1.8 and 100mm Macro f/2.8. For portraiture, it is the same plus the 85mm f/1.4. The videos on my channel are old and trashy, I have diverted away from posting on TH-cam. If you check out my Instagram highlights @jamikephotography, you can see I shoot and edit cool BTS shorts at the locations and with my clients! Make sure to check them out! But ya I will look into some ‘somewhat’ budget friendly GM lenses
That feeling of possibly missing a shot when your model is doing their thang and not being able to recreate that emotion again IS SO REAL!!! You're not alone there Manny. Although it is nice to recrop your image to change the composition, that is not always something that goes through my mind during a shoot.
Manny keep putting out that good work bro. Your doing great job breaking down these different cameras so people know the difference in each camera & lens.
Good to hear your views on the A7 iii, at the moment this camera is ticking all the boxes for me and I'll probably get it but it'll be interesting to hear from anyone who has issues with build quality and Sony aftercare as it's seems to be an issue. I'm not a professional photographer so need to choose wisely as it's a big investment for me
Your channel is dope, very informative, and you got mad skills man. Some input on this video style attempt: I think YOU SHOULD keep using cuts when you need them. I respect you trying to improve the full length video speaking abilities without cutting, but honestly the cuts really do help make it more smooth and make things sound more articulate. The stutters and repeating words can distract a bit and make you come off more amateur. I'm not trying to come off negative or hateful at all. It's just my thoughts since you tried something new and I dont see many ppl giving feedback on it. You're a beast and I'll continue watching your videos either way. Keep up the great work man.
Don't forget that the A7III basically shares the A9's focusing system (with a different algorithm, as far as I know) and lets its focusing points go farther off to the side than the A7RIII. I've got the A7III for that very reason on top of it just flat out not needing the resolution. The resolution would be *nice* , sure, but I don't *need* it.
Is it that noticeable. I know someone on dpreview complained that the a7iii screen blows up highlight when brightness is set ro high so you end up over compensating it, ending up with underexposed photos.
I know someone on dpreview complained that the a7iii screen blows up highlight when brightness is set ro high so you end up over compensating it, ending up with underexposed photos.
Main reason I didn't go for the A7 III because of the lower res EVF and the display. When you look at an image, it makes a difference. And also the resolution is there. If I could do with 24MP, I would've gotten the A9 hahaha. But hey all the best, I love your videos.
Thanks for the video. You come across as humble and honest, but at the same time you provide helpful technical information, which matches the quality of your work. A lot of these youtube "photographers" are arrogant and yet they don't have the work product to match.
I've long since stopped importing everything to Lightroom; prefiltering directly from fast UHS-II card with a fast USB-C reader with FastRawViewer keeps import/preview generation times in Lightroom much more manageable and one can spend time on LR in stuff other than organizing.
I am still using a7ii with extra 4 batteries. Yes huge mp will produce huge file size. 5 months ago I am still using d800e 36mp and I love the cropping and details of the images. 80mb for each raw files, that is pretty huge. Once i step-down to a7ii the file size is half of it. Now i can spend money on manual lens as it has peeking AF. Would love to have a7iii but real world money problems. Perhaps I should able to get one someday.
Manny this video came right on time! I have an a6000. My job has been reaching out to me for small social media projects and seeing things are going in a good direction I’ve been in the market looking to invest in a pro camera and through all my research the A7iii was top of my list. I debated the A7Riii but now I’m sold the A7iii will be the right choice. I’m not a pro by any means but I’m positive this camera will give me the results I need !!
I have an A7III, A7C, and I hope to get an A7RIII because my 105 becomes a 160, and I get more than double the shutter life (in theory). Im more selective about my shot bursts so I don't shoot as many frames. And I throw out lousy RAWS as a first step. On the used market here in Toronto, both A7III and and 7RIII cost the same. I love your videos!!

Makes sense to me
@Beard Guy101 😪🤔😂😂
@@timphillips3873 What if you want to print large?

24MP is enough for what I do. Portraits. Also heard that Sony improved how the a7III renders skin compared to the A7RIII. So far so good one month in.
But still not as good as X-T20, right? ;) But honestly I compared raw files form A7III and Fuji recently and Sony seems at least 2 stops better in noise. I am thinking about switching. When are you coming with some review on your channel? We are waiting ;)
@@grooze XT20 all the way! Lol...I need more time and shoots with it but so far homerun from Sony. IQ is out of this world sharp.
@@grooze Northrup did a test and photographers put the Sony on top. For my work skin tones on Sony are better for sure:) used the xt2 but changed..
A7iii is better than the riii at lowlight video too.
you can downscale a7riii images and kill all the high iso noise too, you can't do that with a7iii, hehe.
That's not the experience I had
Would you recommend an a7iii in 2020? Or wait for the a7iv?

Just upgraded to an A7III from a Nikon D7200....all I have to say is WOW!! I shoot portraiture as well and this AF system is phenomenal.
Good video but I'm keeping my A7Riii due to cropping and using the APS-C mode which brings it down to 18 MP as oppose to 8MP in A7iii
I will buy the a7riii because I will shoot mostly in 16:9 crop mode.

Welcome to the Sony A7iii team. 😎
I shoot quite a bit with canon before moving to Sony, and shooting with smaller size raw than the native resolution, it degrades the files, it does the full read out and then down-sample, I used to do it all the time for my timelapse as I've always exported the final in HD anyway, I've realized and compared them, I've also read quite a few people saying the same in forums, like azenturi said, if you want to shoot smaller, just buy a camera the shoot smaller.
but then you only buy one camera. Sony wants us to buy three cameras. business 101
Shoot in crop mode. 18 mp stills on the riii
Dang man... You were my inspiration to upgrade to the A7RIII... I am still getting it! I LOVE the extreme amounts of detail! My A7rII has me HOOKED!
Jason
In my opinion, A7III is undeniably stellar, no matter where you are in the mirrorless/DSLR market. I am feelin' the low cuts in the video man!
Reading your description, I have to say that going with A7iii is NOT a good decision for you in the first place sir.
Yep I see A7III going for $1700 new and A7RIII going for $2400 new on the low end. It's a hard choice.
I agree there. 24mp is a pretty happy medium of detail and size.
Couldn't agree more... a7III is a BEAST!
@@tronderikbrekke8792 what about the medium raw size? Was curious about that
It has compressed RAW already which cuts the files in half
JME WILLIAMS oh ok so no need. I currently shoot with a D500; was thinking to add a D850 next year. Have you tried the uncompressed raw settings? If so any difference in quality?
What if you shoot in jpg ? Still takes long to edit?
you can still crop a lot with 24 mp.. i did kinda the same thing when I had a d850 than got a d750 for a backup but liked it more than the 850.. never really used the 850 again. just sold it... then I got the z6 and a7 lll .

Igot my A7riii while debating on a canon but seeing all the amazing work you could do with the A7riii and also because of your amazing work, I was blown away. I got got it 4 months ago📸

Thanks - one of the first opinions on that topic which gives a real personal reason. Not just a listing of the technical details. Thanks a lot! 🙏
2k$ camera. Complains about HD space :D
That’s right, blatantly inauthentic. Unsubbed.
Dan The Man how can you say this is unauthentic if it is indeed his opinion?
Dan The Man I also unsubbed... total nonsense.

Been using the A7iii since it came out last year! Best camera I've bought for portraits and my video work.
1 bit difference makes twice the amount, so it is not "only" ;)
I cannot understand the space concern.
Even if you do not delete...
it is funny when people complain about disk space when they drop 2k to camera and 4tB HD costs couple hundred.
I have no concern for storage space but editing a 24mp file vs a 42mp file, is a lot faster.
@@amentet actually depends on the hard and software. For me, it doesn't really make that huge of a difference ^^

A7III for location shoots. A7RIII for studio work, how I use my two babies. =D
This is exactly how I want to use them. I have the a7iii hoping to get the Riii in the near future for studio work, even as a travel/landscape cam.
How do you downsample from 42 to 24 Mpix during import exactly?
@@jorismaasvisuals ...Using Photoshop ACR
@@gernerchristensen8114 explain please
YMMV
PS: Add fully articulating screen on the side for the upcoming rumored video centric models A7Siii and A7000. I actually prefer front tilting up screens (A6400) for photography.
sniperv are the files really that big I’m
Thinking of switching too Sony from a 5D4
Sony has compressed RAW file(50% smaller) which is ok for 95% of the time. Some only use uncompressed for low light stuff.
Welcome to the club manny 👌🏾👌🏾💪🏽💪🏽 you did good job. Without messing up
Hi Manny, I'm also shifting to Sony and going to purchase A7iii
I'm right there with you Manny. I upgraded from the A7rii to the A7III. The A7RII is now my video camera or product camera. Enjoyed the video.
Hey Manny, first welcome to the club! Have you ever planned on doing a comparison of 35mm lenses like the samyang vs sigma vs sony for e-mount?
Getting my a7iii in March!! Great video as always Manny!
Good luck!
Brother Ted the bokeh is different in APS-C mode
@ Manny why not the a9 instead, with the 2 new updates coming this summer a9 will be a monster of a camera.
Welcome to a7iii club !!!! Now I got matching lens except 35mm 1.4 😂
The A7Riii is my first full frame purchase after shooting for 4 years! I saved up and got the beast. Hoping it’ll last for many years to come!
I love my a7iii it's a game changer.

That was my main reason as well man. Smaller file sizes, more AF points, and more money to spend on glass. Dope video!
My MC11 doesn't focus very well with my EF 50 mm f1.4, and it doesn't take DMF :-(
@@bioliv1 My 50/1.4 USM worked flawlessly through my MC-11.
Although it is nice to recrop your image to change the composition, that is not always something that goes through my mind during a shoot.
>still waiting for a7Siii
Manny keep putting out that good work bro. Your doing great job breaking down these different cameras so people know the difference in each camera & lens.
"Lazy retoucher".. we all know you use too much of the liquefy tool on photoshop Manny. Stop lying.. lol.. nah I'm just kidding bro. Ya tu sabe🤣 🇵🇷👌💯
Good to hear your views on the A7 iii, at the moment this camera is ticking all the boxes for me and I'll probably get it but it'll be interesting to hear from anyone who has issues with build quality and Sony aftercare as it's seems to be an issue. I'm not a professional photographer so need to choose wisely as it's a big investment for me
In that case I’ll just stick with my a7r
"hit it with a present and export" actually made me laugh out loud
Don't forget that the A7III basically shares the A9's focusing system (with a different algorithm, as far as I know) and lets its focusing points go farther off to the side than the A7RIII.
I've got the A7III for that very reason on top of it just flat out not needing the resolution. The resolution would be *nice* , sure, but I don't *need* it.
If only the a7iii had the viewfinder quality of the R3!
Is it that noticeable. I know someone on dpreview complained that the a7iii screen blows up highlight when brightness is set ro high so you end up over compensating it, ending up with underexposed photos.

It does that for me too. One of my biggest complaints with the camera.
@@timlane8061 so how do you mitigate the issue.
@@anulearntech I just learned after a while what's blown out and what isn't bu trial and error.
Not a sony shooter bro, but I dig TF outta your content! One of my favorite photogs and I use most of your tips & tricks in my photography
Hey manny I’m looking to cross over to sony from the the canon 5d mkiii which sony you recommend
Sony A7III / Sony A7C
Main reason I didn't go for the A7 III because of the lower res EVF and the display. When you look at an image, it makes a difference. And also the resolution is there. If I could do with 24MP, I would've gotten the A9 hahaha. But hey all the best, I love your videos.
Just bought The 7III :D
