Yup, the legendary 元華 aka Yuen Wah.
And a lot of the guys who were in Enter the Dragon were on the testing panel for my black belt (which I failed).
And the landlady was one of the 2 girls that helps Roger Moore out at the karate school in The Man with the Golden Gun. :)

You would never know based on appearance how rich they are, but generations of farmers in their family have left them a hefty inheritance - not to mention what they've made in their lifetime.
@@The_Bean_Machine_ Oh my goodness, we have a guy like that where I live in Texas. He owns a very successful longhorn ranch, and on work days he's the grubbiest cowboy you've ever seen. But his house is massive, and his family clean up well and hang with the governor or something. Gotta respect those types, because you know they're working hard for that money.
The part where a half dead Chow lifts the stick to hit the guy might just be one the funniest scenes in any movie ever

I love how you can see the landlord couple learning their opponent as they fight. Every move was so well thought out and choreographed by the film makers. Nothing was random, everything was done with intent. What a joy to watch.
Even helps that the actors involved are veteran actors in chinese action flicks
2:51 One of the most genius realization in history of combat cinema is when the lady realizes she can use the bell as a loudspeaker. this took tremendous combat intelligence, situational awareness, improvisation, and creativity to quickly adapt and improvise an effective attack. Truly underrated.
I've always assumed that it's part of their strategy. That they gave such a gift not only for the chinese pun, but also in case they encountered more resistance than they expected.

There’s nothing that wasn’t thought about in this film. Literally every fiber of every detail in this movie was given just extreme thought. I consider the original version to be one of the greatest “kung fu” movies ever made. Just so well done all around.
It's so good! That like squeak from the Beast's shower shoes as he clenches his feet at 0:41 is one of those perfect little details

I was laughing so hard for hours after the Beast totally destroyed Sing, then he ask after why you hit me and then Sing pick up the little stick tapping him on the head again (LMAO basically saying F U) ending up with the Beast smashing his face in 3 more times.

Best Kung-Fu comedy ever. Titles like "Druken Master" come close, but Kung-Fu Hustle is the funniest, most entertaining of them all.
The "Road-Runner" chase sequence between Sing and the Landlady was hilarious.

I love this movie. The fact that the land lady is a chain smoker and has amazing lung power is one of the many nice little touches in this movie.
Clearly, the harmful cig material is too afraid to stay in those lungs!

Love the soundtrack of this movie. This opening scene introducing the couple as masters with the grand Chinese orchestra music, and then transitions to ominous drums when the Beast does literally owns the couple. Amazing

Back then it wasnt considered bad cgi ,some old classic movies have bad cgi but they are still good
The movie manages to strike a balance with serious action and comedy. It made the ‘bad’ CGI acceptable hence why it aged well.

@Asian Wick.......Totally agree! IMHO, Stephen Chow is [as much as I hate using this massively over-used term] an absolute genius. I have both DVD versions of 'Kung Fu Hustle' as well as 'Shaolin Soccer' and 'King of Beggars'. All brilliant films.
It is such a tragedy that Mr Chow seems to have turned his back on film-making these days to become a property baron and spend his time chasing prepubescent girls.
Lol that's because you haven't seen his stuff in China. He was already a house hold name in China before his movies were shown outside of Aisa. There is a sitcom with him in it. He plays a court advisor to some emperor. It's just as funny as his movies.
He should do more directing. Imagine a Dragonball series by this guy. The most difficult part would be the cast itself. Perhaps a Street Fighter film. They failed before but Stephen seems to actually know what he is doing. Hire the entire team from this film. Let him do Mortal Kombat, the last one was bad. Graphics in this was superior for some reason.

2:35 love that sequence, very practical and well done.
I especially like the "Show don't tell" way this scene inroduces the beast as an absolute monster while still showing that landlord and landlady are strong themselves.
They should do this more in films and shows.

I don't know how they translated "火云邪神" into "Beast". In fact, it means "Fire Cloud Evil God". A ferocious name.👏👏👏
I love how The Beast isn't visually intimidating, he's just some balding dude in bad shape that wears flip-flops until he starts massacring everything and everyone around him.

When you know the story behind it, this isn't just a great fight scene. This is one the best scenes I've witnessed in any movie
For those who may be confused by the scene which Chow hit the man in suit (his boss) with a stick while exchanging several cantonese/chinese words, i as a native speaker can explain how funny it actually is.
The boss keeps saying "Hit him"
"摳佢", Then, he says " Hit the shit out of him" to put more emphasis on the word "him" . Actually you can hear four words in cantonese" 摳佢老母" which means "hit his mother", however the implied meaning in this sentence is not hit his mother, in chinese it is just a funny emphasis on the word "him" "佢".
Its usage here is like when someone gets mad and say "get the fuck of here" "beat the shit out of him". The words "fuck" & "the shit out of" are used for emphasis tone but no actual meaning.
So, in the scene, Chow takes the words "him" & "his mother" so seriously and he is angry and confused of which one (him or his mother) to hit and awkwardly hit his boss. I think it is funny as hell to most who speaks chinese as no one made this kind of joke about language before.

the way the director & staff played the limits of CGI at the time of filming is what makes this movie legendary
The fact that they still manage to handle the fight and even went as far as to make the strongest kungfu master in history to surrender for a moment is a testament to how strong they are even as a two ordinary kungfu masters.
not for a moment they should've won and kept using the lions roar bell combo and he ded but they too merciful and the beast had to resort to cowardice and trickery to win
those two are not ordinary kungfu masters, their also S tier in terms of reputation in the kungfu community lol, just a little bit below the S ranked 1 of the "the beast", but already well above the A - tier assassins,

As goofy as it is, this movie is a masterpiece. There’s just so much to every little detail.
This movie was great and definitely worth a watch. The action was awesome, the comedy was funny and everything else blended well. Both fights against the beast were epic

The greatest Martial Arts Movie ever. The story, acting, plot points, stunts, lighting, action...was a masterpiece.
This is and will be always one of the best comedy action movies. Period!
Fun Fact: My wife from Hong Kong told me what was so funny about this couple. Known as "The Lovers" in old Chinese stories they were the young couple in love where she had taught him everything to know about fighting. What made it so funny was this was a "where they are now after 20 years" moment. I have to say though, one of the most subtle badass scenes is where you see them both sitting at a game table together.
Their names came from a super well-known novel titled “The Return of the Condor Heroes”(神鵰俠侶, lit. The Divine Eagle and The Heroic Couple) by Jin Yong. Yang guo and Xian long nu are the names of the titular couple.
That was shown in the movie. Didn’t need much explaining

The hilarious part is that the two characters in kung fu hustle have totally opposite image and personality than in the original story. The original story is a romantic one, Xian long nu is a pretty and very quiet girl, but in kung fu hustle she became fat ugly and loud; Yang guo on the other hand is a nice guy and extremely love his wife, but in kung fu hustle he became a mess and always looking at other girls.

The beast is such a cool character. This movie was great. One of the first that I felt captured a DBZ live action type feel.
This was an absolutely amazing film. From the first time I saw this as a teen, I knew I was watching a classic. The fighting sequences were both outlandish and mesmerizing at how well they were put together and choreographed. Probably my favorite Asian movie ever.

Well.... I have never seen nor heard of this film before watching this clip today and now it seems that I'm the lucky one who is going to watch this for the first time later tonight.
This was one of the best Kung fu films I have ever seen. I have watched this type of movie since I was 16 ( over 50 years ). And I loved every second of this film. Stephan Chow is a great actor / director. 👍👍👍👍

Alright, how can you not put this movie in your top-ten? There’s plenty of “good” movies but so few ever are “perfect” for nearly every frame.
Critics don’t talk about this movie, bad or good, because it’s just not worth telling people about. You show it to them so that they show it to others.
So hilarious with great martial arts skills by the characters. Very amazing storyline and cast of characters. I bought the cd and watch it frequently on movie night.

Go watch Journey To The West, it's the spiritual sequel to this one, it's Kung-Fu vs demons instead of Kung-Fu vs gangsters, but it's the exact same thing. It blows my mind, everybody knows Kung-Fu Hustle but nobody knows Journey To The West. Same actors, same special effects, same sense of humor.

Great, great, movie. Wow, saw it a couple of times many years ago. Great script, acting, cinematography, twists and turns. The writing makes a movie great, and this movie has a fantastic story. Love it. Has Matrix in it, a Heroe's Journey, the whole everything. Will watch it again. Love the part where the Hero...changes...into something that is honorable.
