I wouldn’t say their mothers loved them. I’d say their mothers loved the idea of who they were and lived vicariously through that. It’s as close to living in someone else’s skin as possible. I think both mothers were able to live lavishly and live lives they could only dream of through their daughters, and were willing to do so at all costs. There’s absolutely no love in a “mother” that’s willing to date/sleep with your boyfriends, just the age differences alone would’ve been revolting or a mother that would put your young body (Brooke Shields) in jeopardy by leaving you unprotected and unsupervised in an industry that’s known for it extreme perversity. I think the human need to cope with trauma makes us see people the way we want to see them instead of the monsters they truly are.
A mother’s love is nurturing and caring and loving and kind and protecting. It doesn’t sell you to the highest bidder just as long as they get a bit of the shine or to tag along like a parasite.

Thank you Karine, I was feeling guilty when you said they both had spoke about still seeing their mothers. My mother is toxic and bipolar extremely dangerous violent and damaging to my children and myself. I chose not to see her for the sake of my own mental health. It was terribly difficult and took me all my life to have to not see her.

Seeing the video of Drew at 9 years old at some club. Surrounded by grown ass people. Only kid there. It was beyond heartbreaking. She got lucky she wasn't kidnapped or abused at that age. Drew to me is resilience. I wish I could go on her show & tell her that. Give her a great big hug. This is why I love her. Because she broke the Hollywood curse. It does take a lot of strength in life. To overcome your demons famous or not. As we all know not everybody makes it over the rainbow.

I’m a bit older than Drew and remember the media reporting her adolescent struggles. Karine’s comment that “God brought her into this world” offers great perspective. An accurate reminder that when things get out of control, there’s a higher power for us. Listen for the whispers…that’s where the truth lives.

I once read that she heavily relied on her friends as a support system throughout her life because her own family was never there for her. Drew has been best friends with Cameron Diaz since they were teenagers and I think close relationships she has had like that one really saved her in many ways. God bless them both 🙏💚

Amen, Karine. AMEN… our parents are vessels and and gaurdians charged with our upbringing. We owe them at minimum some respect for that. But some don’t even deserve that. I admire Drew for her tender forgiving heart. She was lucky. Some children are simply destroyed by their parents as they were by their own. Not all parents deserve “a second chance.” Maybe just a “move along.”

Drew Barrymore is one of my favorite actresses. She's gone through a lot of therapy to be where she is now. I think that and her children are what keep her in check and open about things she went through. I believe because of all of that, she is able to forgive but she doesn't forget. She is the boss now. I think that made a difference too. The fact that she became a producer and director and has her own show. She took the reins of her professional life and I think that helped her in her personal life too. She calls the shots so no one else can have that control of her. 💚💚💚
