Some of my old stuff has proprietary cables, which were normal to me back then, but seem like total freaks now. For instance, my DS Lite has a cable that was only ever used for that particular model, not even any other type of DS. Then there's a 3rd gen iPod touch, which has the Apple 30 pin. My Galaxy Tab 8.9 from 2012 has Samsung's 30 pin (like the Apple one but with some bits swapped) and is my newest device with a proprietary port.

Mini USB was great. Micro USB was a fragile abomination by comparison, only benefit was being a bit smaller to fit into our ever smaller and sleeker devices. But as is the case with Micro USB today for a while using Mini USB was a sign that the device was being made as cheap as possible as the chips and connectors cost less than the newer micro ones, which is why all the nuggets used it for soooo long

    • @bland9876
      @bland9876 ปีที่แล้ว +15

Mini USB is way to big for modern electronics. Plus I can't handle all the extra stuff that USB C can like video out or Power Delivery (PD) so ya mini USB sucks.

    • @Grapefruit5000

I was so happy to see the title of this weeks video. We have these at work and boy do they stink. You wouldn't believe how many higher-ups demanded we start supporting Microsoft Surface Tablets and the likes since they "are the best in the business". Of course, they HAD to have the Earbuds with their fancy tablets as well (and not just because they didn't have an earphone jack). Well the short of it is, they all hated them and now we've got shelves full of MS Surface products that no one wants.

A teacher told me they were deployed Surfaces for Covid remote learning, they overheated while running a sustained Zoom session. The IT guy's solution was bendy USB fans. I personally never liked the wireless radios, and the flappy keyboards and cranked up scaling errors really didn't come off well. They are sealed up like iPads despite having a modular SSD and plenty of chunk for open compartments. I would often discourage people from buying them.

Fun fact: in order to get good, deep bass, fit is everything.
Regardless of the earbuds: if your ear tips don’t fit well, you will hear drastically less bass. Any personal audio product that boasts about “not blocking you from the outside world” will not product good bass. This is why things like bone conduction buds and the Bose sunglasses sound so thin.
This is also why leather(ette) ear pads for headphones are so popular these days. Fabric, velour or other materials reduce bass, while thick leather like material helps keep it in. On both iems and headphones, changing ear tips or ear pads can totally transform the sound for this reason.

    • @Fruggggg

the static noise comes them switching to an alternate protocol for phone calls. Bluetooth implements two separate protocols for audio, TCS (also know as the "walkie-talkie protocol") for telephony and AVDTP for general-purpose audio. some devices only support TCS so Bluetooth audio equipment will usually expose both protocols; that's why, say, Beats headphones show up as two separate devices on Windows. the static noise occurs when the device microphone is being used because only TCS supports audio input

Also, just made a voice recording on my current Jlabs, I think $50, sounds wired. First recording was on a Galaxy S9 2 years ago and current phone is S21. There might be an issue with windows when you use wireless earbuds sometimes they are put as hands free, and you get that static and in general lower quality audio because windows reserves badwidth for audio in. I'm glad you reviewed these lol. I was an early adopter of them. Got them on release. For the most part, I do really like them. I agree with basically everything; except the buzz. I don't have buzz. But the case. If you give the case a 1/10, I'm going 0/10. I hate the case more than I've ever hated anything. Lately, when I slot the right ear bud in, it blinks red. Now, according to the manual, that means ERROR. WHAT ERROR? Are the pins not lined up? is the battery dead? No idea. When it happens, I usually have to shuffle it around for minutes at a time. Eventually, it will work. I have no idea what the problem is. I thought maybe I somehow greased one of the charging pads with either sweat (i wear them during workouts) or earwax. I've cleaned it thoroughly. No idea. I hate it SO much.
For the people that ask, I got them early due to the comfort aspect. I can't wear most earbuds. But when you learn how to lock these things into your ear (and there is a learning curve), they are so comfortable.

@@bendoesmtb the noise cancelling is really good. Better then the sony wh1000xm3 ive had before but havent compared to the xm4 or 5 which i know are highly rated. Headphones have a great seal around them so even passive they block a lot of sound. There's 10 levels of noise cancelling.
The headband is a single piece of metal and as a have a large head I do find the clamping of my ears is a little firm. I'm hoping this will give a little after I've worn them for a bit.
Touch controls are nice and accurate.
Build quality wise they do feel a little more fragile than my old Sony's which I used to always just throw about. These go into their hardcase after every use.
Sound quality wise, they arent 350 quid headphones. I'd go for the xm4's if I wanted to pay North of 300 but if you can get them for less than 200, they are great. Bass is punchy without being woofy. Mids are strong but with some higher frequencies I've found to be a little over bearing on some early 2000 trance/dance songs but modern pop and soft rock (greenday etc) they sound great. Really good for films aswell, not quite as good as my DT770 80ohm but I can walk around without dangling 10ft of cable and a DAC.

I gotta say I quite like my Beans. I wear them when I'm out riding my bicycle, and find that they let me be aware of traffic. Especially the cars that sneaks up behind me. The noise cancelling is for sure not the best, but I've used it in a pinch on airplanes, and they are definitely better than nothing. And if you jam them in there good, they actually filter out a good amount of airplane noise. But of course, they got nothing on a pair of good earphones with noise cancelling.

I've owned three pairs of wireless earbuds. Nothing premium, the most expensive ones were $50. But what puts me off of buying expensive ones is all three of mine broke within a month. In the same way one of the buds stopped charging. I just don't trust expensive buds to have fixed that issue

    • @hopec1091

get a pair of AirPods, genuinely buying quality from it, in every aspect of the purchase.
Apple didn't cheap out on the case design, charging capability (wireless charging for the case, consistent charge, good battery life), and everything else. The sound quality is more than serviceable for wireless headphones and will likely not break on you unless you treat it like crap. I've dropped mine dozens of times, and it still works perfectly. After over a year, the charging and battery life is about as great as it was on day one. (I have Gen 3 AirPods, but the Gen 1 AirPod Pros and Gen 2 are just as great. Gen 2 will also give you a great purchase for a bit cheaper too.)

The expensive ones, at least the AirPods and Beats, don’t have this problem.
Well, eventually they will ofcourse. But not within the first 2 years.
Battery-health is a real problem with these small products, especially since they always go back into the charging and won’t turn off outside of the case.
So always be prepared to throw these things out after 3 years. Unless you are willing to try and open these small electronics, which 95% of people won’t.
