      Bluetooth is equally my most beloved and hated feature in technology. I had a bluetooth dongle I got for my PC to let it connect my headphones when I was younger. The fucker corrupted the drivers the very first time they were installed. This turned into a technological tug of war when the software borked every few months, needing me to dive progressively further and further into settings and registry and device manager with every time they failed. Until eventually I gutted *everything* bluetooth related, turned off the services, deleted the files deep in explorer, and chewed through the registry, and bought a new dongle. Virtually no problems ever since.

    The Pixel Buds Pro have been pretty great from a guy who's been using only Google bluetooth headphones since the crappy first generation Pixel Buds. I've noticed the same thing you did about the noise cancellation, as I like to sit on my patio and the AC units outside are loud and can sometimes still get through the noise cancellation, but it also made me aware of just how much noise pollution there is around me. Overall I'm pretty happy with them. They have their cons but for my use I feel they've been a great overall so far, at least for someone that wants to just keep them in my pocket for use while I'm out and about.

      Realistically I think Framework would only go into the over-ear headphone market like Fairphone has. I can see them making the case serviceable, but the buds themselves are so tiny I don't see how they can make it repairable for most tech nerds who don't have specialized equipment.
      Fairphone does also make TWS buds, but they are not serviceable or repairable.

    These are an improvement over the 1st gen buds. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxK5mc3yw4xA7Mf2j6k6n1Uqv_KUgrKdeM Pros: The fit is fantastic. This is the biggest plus. They stay in my ears when running and become unnoticeable. They are tight but comfortable. The sound quality is about the same as the 1st gen buds. They pair more easily with my LG G8 ThinQ and immediately reconnect when removed from the case. The sound balance is excellent, good but not overpowering base and clean mid tones and highs.Cons: The noise cancellation is good but perhaps a little less effective than the Bose ANC on the 1st gen buds. Passthrough mode as not as good as the 1st gen buds making it a little more difficult to hear conversations when in passthrough.

    One of the reasons I prefer the "tiny smash into your ear canal" style is they work for sleeping (I'm a side sleeper) and under my 3M ear protection. I haven't had the money to test, but based on where the stems land on the ear in pictures they would absolutely pop out the instant I started adjusting my 3Ms or rolled over. Plus some companies have actually competed pretty well with the Apple Pros for slimness - my Galaxy Bud Pros have a VERY slim case that is also smaller in surface area than my fiancee's Apple Pros. Plus the battery life is WAY longer and they come in a color other than Sterile Hospital.

    • @m4t7eo
      @m4t7eo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      In my testing, among in ears the AirPods Pro are easily one of the less bad. The stem is not the problem, the eartip pushing is. The only decent ones for sleeping I’ve tried are the original AirPods. No pressure on the ear canal, and the stem is hardly an issue.
      Galaxy buds were completely unusable in bed, between accidental touch presses and really annoying pressure on the canal.

First one developed the equivalent of a nervous tic on a few separate songs and the battery life was cut in half, so I messaged anker about a month before the warranty was up. They sent me a brand new pair and case.
      Then my wife lost them. I'm not an audiophile when it comes to mobile listening, but they sounded great all things considered and are singularly the best fitting earbuds I've ever used. They fit snug, but they didn't get that annoying vacuum seal feel, they were great at blocking out noise (and I worked in a steel mill at the time, so plenty of fucking noise to go around), didn't have a lot of issues with connectivity, and had a pretty great sound overall.
      The only thing is that the microphone sucked, which is just the nature of buds. I tried a ton of different pairs of buds trying to find one with a good mic as I couldn't wear a traditional headset of any kind with my hardhat and finally just gave up.
      For the price, and knowing that in the end wireless buds are disposable, I really don't know why people go so hard for stuff like airpod pros.

Having used a pair for half a year 6am-6pm 5-6 days a week, always using active noise cancelling and medium volume, no problems so far, yes as Mr. Dank said, high pitched noises come through pretty clear, but loud boomy, crashy sounds they do great with. Late reply, but that's a thing with earpro like 3M COMTAC/SWATTAC, since they're meant for both protecting your hearing and allowing you to clearly communicate. I'm p sure there's stuff like that in industrial environments too under different names/brands/price ranges. Not so sure about music-geared wired stuff. The problem with wired noise cancelling is that they still need bats for ANC. Or (theoretically) to mooch off some other power supply. Which is why ANC is so prolific on wireless headsets, since they're cramming a spicy pillow in there anyway. As a side note, уou can get Anker(y) Q30s off Amazon p cheap if you need budget ANC headphones. Not the best for music, but gud enuff for ambient sounds or podcasts where bass sounds don't dominate.

      @@TheUltimateEel It's possible they just got incredibly unlucky with bad hardware. Semi-related anecdote - I got a KZ ZSN Pro w/mic because of Dank, because I wanted a corded pair of buds for doing business calls at work over using bluetooth. During calls, they either work great or suddenly have static-related feedback and cut out entirely. It's really frustrating, because for just listening to music they're great, and the mic/audio quality is good when it works during calls, but now I'm paranoid about using them otherwise.

      @@TheUltimateEel Yea, I have been using Pixel 5 since like 3-4 year's and they literally have no physical issues other than battery which is to be expected after such long usage.

      @@TheUltimateEel Do please tell me what I could possibly be doing wrong with phones that aren't mistreated in any way, shape or form then?
      I work in IT with years of experience troubleshooting and repairing hardware, so I can tell you with total certainty there is not a single thing I did wrong to those phones. They failed out of the blue. Not after being dropped, not after being exposed to water, not after being allowed to overheat, none of that. I do not mistreat my devices. In fact, both the 3 and the 5 failed in the exact same way, which if you look it up was a common failure point for many other people. Search power button issues for the 3 or the 5 because they both failed in that way for me and have for other people as well.

    Wire may seem to have a better mic, but probably not for the reason everyone thinks. A cable has the mic near your chest, closer to the direction of which sound flows out of your mouth. TWS earphones by nature have them near your ear. You can only do so much with mic beam arrays.

    They're quite possibly the single closest thing Android has to Airpods Pro.

    I could be wrong but I always thought that the reason the mics on Bluetooth buds were so bad is because of the proximity. With the wired ones the mic is usually placed right up where your mouth is but the wireless ones are obviously in your ears so the sound is a lot less clear and more echoey.

    The microphone quality is a limitation of bluetooth
    In order to send both a micrphone and an audio signal over the same wave, you have to compress the audio a lot
    and you also have to ensure minimal latency, which once again destroys the sound and microphone quality during conversations.

  • @BillyBraga
    @BillyBraga 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I believe a big part of the problem for the mic quality is the position of the mic. The fact that the mic on TWS is so far from the mouth makes it physically impossible to have good sound.
    I tested that with my cheap BT headphones that had I mic in the earcup. I unsodered the mic from the board and converted it to a boom mic. It was night and day.
