You picked the perfect version. One of the best live performances ever recorded. That solo....
I've mentioned this before but that solo deserves nothing less than a 10 on the volume dial.
I disagree. Zep is almost always bad live because they partied too much before their concert studio versions are always the way to go with Led Zeppelin.
@@BARASOLEX out of curiosity, what is bad about this show?
@@shaykosovac8722 they were always loaded when they played concert and that made their playing and singing abilities very sloppy
@@BARASOLEXthere's some truth to your comment
The exact way you've worded is absolutely not true though
Jpj was always proper
Bonzo was a monster drunk but his drums were always getting better until he died
Your gripe is with Robert and jimmy if you're talking about substances affecting their shows
Roberts voice was fucked by 1973 due to nodules
He bounced back MASSIVELY in 1977 with his vocals
But jimmy was fucked on heroin by that time
But even jimmy still had incredible gigs all throughout Zeppelins 12 year run
Again
There is some truth to your comment
But the specific way you've worded it as a statement is just not true
Led Zeppelin improvised extensively when playing live and created surreal atmospheres with their music. Imagine sitting in front of them and seeing this with the smoke and fog rolling off the stage amidst the changing light scenes. Totally hypnotic and mesmerizing.
Absolutely magnificent! Always a perfect performance!! NOBODY beats Zeppelin...especially live!!
Absolutely
Those drums. Like a steam hammer. RIP John you genius
This is arguably the best guitar solo he ever played live...just awesome
As always, thank you again for doing my pick! I’m glad we waited for this one, I feel you needed a good cross-section of Zeppelin before springing this monster on you lol! I think the reason Zeppelin was so good at doing so many different styles is because they first and foremost did it for themselves not just for the fans. Meaning they weren’t just trying to be different, they took all of their musical influences from growing up and as young musicians and explored them within this band. And of course it’s pure magic! I was privileged to be at this show at the Garden although at the time I had no idea how iconic it would become. Believe it or not you’re not running out of great Zeppelin songs yet, more to come! ❤️
So….the live version with the fantasy sequence is no longer available?
That was wise to spring this on them after a good Zeppelin seasoning. Maybe the Rain Song from this show is in order.
Thanks Ed
@@w.geoffreyspaulding6588 I couldn’t find it as just the song by itself. Obviously, it’s all available in the entire film.
Once again, thank you kindly for taking us on this journey 😊
Robert plants voice was distorted because this is a dark song about giving no mercy to the enemy in battle! That's what giving no quarter means in battle give no mercy!
I was not at this concert, but in 1975 I was there when they performed in L.A.. I was there! IT WAS AWESOME!!!
I bought this Record when I was 15 in 1977, still my favorite record and I am loving "No Quarter" since that
A perfect example of a Zeppelin track that was great in the studio cut, but other-worldly, live.
Which was rare for Zeppelin.
Totally false. Many of their songs were better live than in the studio, and I'll name a few: Dazed and Confused, Trampled Underfoot, Kashmir, The Song Remains The Same, Bron-Y-Raur Stomp, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, Immigrant Song ...I could name a dozen more
I closed the door and put out the light before watching this one! 👍🤘
Wow! No Quarter live at MSG?! Now you’re deep down the Led Zeppelin rabbit hole. Enjoy the ride, there’s none better.
I commend you two for picking this one! It’s tricky to get good live recordings to translate if one has never heard the studio version, but you can’t go wrong with the MSG shows. That solo is mind-bending!
I had seen Zeppelin play No Quarter in concert in 1975 and when Jimmy Page begins his solo it is trance producing and John Bonham was in perfect sync with Jimmy Page. It was just fantastic. To this day I have reflected on that moment many times.
"No Quarter" is up there with my favorite Led Zepplin songs ( this old Led Head cannot pick a favorite). John Paul Jones is amazing in this one. Love your reactions.
No Quarter is still amongst my favorite Led Zeppelin compositions !!!❤❤❤❤🔥🔥🔥
Esa guitarra es como un viaje por el espacio.
Súper . Zeppelin,/,
You guys are my favorite reactors. 👍👍
OMG Jimmy just WOW , no words...
The filter on Plant's voice is to enhance the mood - of threat and foreboding.
I saw them in 1973 at the Atlanta Stadium. 8 of us were there only about 25 feet away from the stage. Wonderful.
Love you both ❤...please consider doing in the light and down by the seaside together they are both beautiful and a bit different zeppelin ...you are just gonna keep on loving what you are hearing... take care see ya soon xx
Comparing led zeppelin to anybody else just isn't fair on anybody else!!! They were just untouchable. The improvisation and the tightness is just sublime!.
They've been described as tight bit loose and it's a great way to sum it up
John Paul Jones on the electric piano. Zeppelin really were 4 equal parts and even if it was maybe hard to understand at the time, I can understand completely why they felt they couldn't continue without John Bonham after his tragic death in 1980. You just couldn't replace anyone in this band.
When I’ve finished building my Time Machine I’ll take you both back to November 1971 in Manchester, England. For the three of us, it would be our first experience of Led Zeppelin live. It will be the loudest thing you will ever hear in your life. Trust me, I’m 70 years old and nothing will ever be so powerful ever again. Best wishes from England. 🏴
GOATS OF GOATS…..PERIOD🤷🏻♂️🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
With a group like Led Zeppelin one should listen to many versions of the same song. And at least also the studio version. There are things you can do in the studio you cannot on stage and there are things you can do on stage you cannot in studios. With Led Zeppelin each time there is a lot of difference. This version of No Quarter I didn't know although I know many versions. The adlibs/solos and what Robert does with his voice is unique once again.
Other bands have some great songs, but Led Zeppelin has soooo many great songs. Even the old cover songs they did, they took a few notes or words, & completely made those songs Led Zeppelin songs. Thanks for your reaction.
If you want to go back in time you can buy this movie by them. It's called the song remains the same. You'll feel like your at the concert. It is a gem imo. Love you two.
Thank you. We'll look for it. 👍
We used to go see it at the Midnight Movies in the early 80s. Just like being at a concert. Really cool on the movie screen.
My friends and me would also go. When it first came out waited in line in NYC just to see it. Your right like going to a concert.
All the videos of the 1973 concerts was 3 nights in row is in the soundtrack the Song Remains the Same it’s a movie from 1976 from Led Zeppelin.
It still blows my mind
Before they would play this the lights would go down and smoke would roll across the stage. One of my favorites
Yeah,…dry ice….
I have seen Zep twice in concert and they improvise like can’t believe and it is other worldly how in sync they are especially John Bonham in sync with Jimmy Page. Zep is the band I still listen to constantly and I am 70.
I loved Zep form I was 9, the song that got me was Ramble On, after that I have been hooked I am now 60, love your reactions!
This was the best tune they played when I saw them in '77.
They were good, but wish I had seen them pre- '74...
You might want to consider watching them perform any of the songs live at Madison Square Garden. Actually watching them perform on stage is amazing. They are magnificent and you’ll be captivated
Peace from New Orleans Yall have become one of my fav channels Your love for good music and most importantly your love for each other is awesome It brings a smile to my face seeing nice people all over the world I think the haters of the world should watch more channels like this Zeppelin fan for life
Excellent reaction to one of the legendary masters of all music, the one and only band of all bands, Led Zeppelin.
This is my favorite version of this song. The guitar solo in the middle is one of my all time favorites. I read that Page was up for 5 days straight at those performances. Its incredible he is able to play that well with no sleep.
Never ceased to be amazed by Jimmy Page's solos. The unlimited creativity that poured from this man was astonishing. His solos were never a continuous repetition of notes as so many others did but a journey that had a start, a middle and an ending. Each solo as unique to the song, so unique that you know the song after hearing just a few notes from a solo. The other thing is that the song was everything for Zeppelin and performances from any member was always to enhance the song and not overshadow it.
This was great at the concert. Love what your doing. ❤
No quarter is well spooky, love it.
No Quarter = No Mercy. The lyrics conjure up a vision of a group fleeing from their pursuers. One of them is wounded (The foot that's slow). They chose a path that no one goes to try to get away. I see Robert's love of J.R R. Tolkien in these lyrics. The music sets the mood, and Robert's voice complete the picture. One of my favorites.
The Path Where No One Goes is a reference to the paths of the dead….which Aragorn reluctantly travels on his way to the siege of Minas Tirith in TLOTR. Of course we all have our interpretations of lyrics, but I don’t know how you get to “they were fleeing”. Quite the contrary, they speak of “carrying news that must get through, to build a dream for me and you”. They’re trying to sneak through the lines in a time of war….they have a message that must get through….to the commander of another army? They are headed directly into danger, not running from it.
Capolavoro, è un opera d'arte ❤❤
❤❤❤Robert❤❤❤
Will never tire of listening to this , that solo from Page is just mesmerising. ❤️
Brilliant. I personally think this track and this live version from MSG is zeppelins pinnacle. Absolute brilliance. I remember buying this album when it was released. No Quarter just blew me away.
And still does. 😊
I think this live version just highlights just how good the two John's were at creating a groove and a feeling... The two of them created the basis for both Jimmy and Robert to soar. All four needed each other to be as good as they are.. Thank goodness Robert said when he was offered the vocalist position that Joh Banham had to come with him... I saw then the next year 1974 in a 3,000 theatre in Glasgow and they played this as well as everything else of course... but I can still remember it. Keep on Rocking.
Now that’s weird…..I guess they at times chose to play smaller venues? I mean, they were filling stadiums in the US at this time. Were they not as popular in Scotland?
@@w.geoffreyspaulding6588 Britain as a whole didn't have that size of venue as establised in the US. That's been a fairly recent thing... Even foorball stadiums weren't used. A bit like when the Beatles played live in the UK... they were to biggest band around bt still played that size of venue in the UK,,, and then went over to the US and played Shea Staduim and Candlestick Park. In fact they were the band that actually started Stadium concerts. British bands KNEW, that if you wanted to make money the US was the biggest market and the promoters just saw dollar signs. After all.. Madison Square Gardens where Zeppelin played was primarily a Sports venue. Sorry for the rambling answer.
Robert's voice has been plugged in-through the wah-wah pedal of Jimmy - that explains the modulated sound it has.
the live performane recordings are amazing,!
Just think of the voice change as a "special effect," and I feel confidant in saying that most fans think it appropriate for this particular song, as it reflects the haunting lyrics and music. But it was definitely intentional and how the studio version sounds, in case you were in doubt, not something that was just an aspect of this live performance.
THA K YOU FOR REACTING TO THIS VERSION. IT IS THE BEST VERSION. I LOVE YOU GUYS
And just that perfect touch of the theremin by Jimmy towards the end……..perfect.
No Quarter means no mercy. They used distortion and echo on Robert's voice to keep the eerie feeling.
Are you sure? I thought No Quarter meant you'd have to give them two dimes and a nickel
@@davidadams5280😂
For me this is 1 of best best ever solos. And he's got ALOT of incredible solos
Thanks for sharing your thoughts regarding these Great Zeppelin songs
I'd say that's every kind of distortion. The engineer said what kind of distortion do you want and Robert said yes
In a hundred years Led Zeppelin will be classical music
You can watch the entire concert on TH-cam. Strongly suggest you do sometime.
every songs a journey. cheers guys
You can see this live, I have seen it, by other reactors! 😎
My favourite Zep song, with my favourite reaction folks. The middle section with the piano, drums & guitar solo, as perfect as music can get for me. Thanks you two, you really cheer me up.
The best version of my favorite Zeppelin song. Masters at work.
THE GREATEST BAND EVER HANDS DOWN !!!❤😊
We all wish it wouldn't end.... Amazing
The video does exist. I have seen it many times.
Very nice react!
You heard a rocking 12:30 more guitar version from 1973. There is of course another 26 minute version of the legendary Earl's Court 1975, where JPJ "inserts half" a piano concerto in between. With The Rain song and Kashmir before it, it was a long music trip of around 45 minutes where some people were certainly walking on a cloud.
18th May version my favourite absolute perfection from JPJ
There was a video until recently. Whoever manages the Zeppelin page keeps removing certain videos and six months later they put it back up.
This was their most psychedelic song I think.
This song is so good ❤❤
Watch the movie song remains the same it’s this concert
Once again........... .who puts on the better performance ??? Plant, Bonzo, JPJ or Page ? take your pick and just sit back and enjoy !
They deliver the listener into perfect bliss.... Astounding musicians!!!!
beautiful
THE band. THE song. One of my top 5 Zepp songs for sure.
Soooo Good!!❤❤❤❤ love my Led Zeppelin!!! ❤
That sound grows on you as your love grows for that song , i felt the same way when i first heard it, go listen again 👍
Hey Guys, a couple more of their songs that are really good, from one of their later albums are.. Night Flight, and Ten years Gone..I think you will really like them..
- This live version is FIRE !!! :)
luv your reactions... You folks need to check out some Zappa tunes. A great one to try is Waka-Jawaka, a really-great big-band instrumental. The music is deep and draws you in with just a few notes. He also has a vast library of Instrumental tunes just like it, his Lyrical tunes are a bit harder to warm up to. Other instrumental tunes: Big Swifty, or Zoot Allures.
Classic piece! If you get the chance look up the same track in 1975 where they add a long piano solo from John Paul Jones, before Jimmy Page joins on guitar.
I’d learned this song from the studio album. I didn’t like this live recording when I first heard it, but it grew on me over time and I appreciate the differences now. I still prefer the studio version though. I saw them perform this in St Louis Missouri in 1977, I was 17 then.
Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy - -
Written by John Paul Jones and featuring him on keyboards....
Here's their last live performance with John Bonham's son Jason Bonham on drums!th-cam.com/video/r7fMMcPByig/w-d-xo.htmlsi=4nNT4cB2FL65Pz9e th-cam.com/video/r7fMMcPByig/w-d-xo.htmlsi=4nNT4cB2FL65Pz9e
Considered by many as the best live solo, EVER.
There are two versions of this song from Madison Square Garden: the version from the video "The Song Remains The Same" and this one. They were recorded on two different nights in the Madison. They are both great and almost identical but I prefer the one from the video. Maybe it's just because it's the one I heard first.
PLEASE LISTEN ⚠️
Your reactions are so true to meaningful Songs.
Please try ELVIS 1968 COMEBACK SPECIAL.
The closing Song is: If I could Dream.
I know you will understand and Love it !!
❤ 🇦🇺
If you haven’t already heard Achilles Last Stand, check it out. It will take you on a journey. ☘️✌️I think you should start with the studio version from the album Presence. greetings from Boston.
Always remember that roberts voice was on its last legs by 1973 due to vocal nodules
He came back with an absolute vengeance in 1977
Oh cmon i love you both, but that oh from YOUR WIFE that comes at the exact time i guess the guitar solo reaches the peak
In my teens I saw The Song Remains the Same feature film on its release in UK. It was a mind blowing recording based in the Madison Swuare Gardens gig that included this stunning rendition of No Quarter. A few years later I witnessed the last live show performed by Led Zeppelin before Bonzo died. The show at Knebworth in 1979 was one of the best gigs I witnessed. I was a skeptic when I first heard Led Zep but they really were very special.
PONTIAC SILVERDOME 1977👍
Make sure you listen to the studio version too (album: Houses Of The Holy). It’s awesome!
Led Zeppelin. Soundtrack to my Life!
personally I like the second half better than the first - where the solo is after the buildup.
YAY OMG SO **Excited** to see what your **Thoughts** & **Feelings** will be on THIS!!! Weeeeee k goin in...
Lovely review. I enjoy your description of what you feel and hear.
The winds of Thor are blowing cold. They wearing steels that's bright and true. To build the dream for me and you. They choose the path where no one goes. They hold no quarter.
