    They were all Irish. Not by birth, but they, all of the original line-up, we're all Irish by way of their parentage and the Irish environment in which they grew up, just like The Smiths, and it was this culture that moulded them and their musical abilities and directions. Noel even said that 'Definitely Maybe' was the "sound of five Irish Catholics from an English housing estate". To deny this is simple ignorance.

    Noel has said many times that he doesn't really think about his nationality, he just is. He is influenced by both cultures, without both influences we don't get Oasis. In a recent interview however on his current press tour for his new album he did say he would like his ashes to be scattered in Ireland when he dies.
    Noel on his nationality from an interview on US radio and reported in the Daily Mirror:
    "I don't consider myself to be English, my parents are Irish, my wife's Scottish, my children have got some Scottish in them, but at the same time I don't feel a hundred percent Irish either because I was born in England."
    On the English football team from the same interview:
    "I am not a fan of the English team....If Ireland were playing England, I would be supporting Ireland."
    Noel from an interview with FourFourTwo magazine:
    "I've always supported Ireland since I was a kid. Oasis were asked to do the England song and go on at Wembley, we couldn't do it - My uncles would have killed me"

    I became a Oasis fan in the summer of 2007 just before high school started and when I heard ‘Live Forever’ for the first time and saw the video. I watched their live performances on Jools Holland and I was hooked. When their final album came out I started my freshman year and thought it was their best work. Then the band broke up a year later when I became a sophomore but I heard Beady Eye and High Flying Bird’s. It showed there was still life after Oasis but hard for the fans to crossover. As an African 🇸🇸🇨🇮 born and breed in the American Midwest 🇺🇸 and a fan of Nirvana and Kurt Cobian, Liam and Noel Gallagher and Oasis I love so very much. Great British band. ☘️🇮🇪🇬🇧

    I got into [oasis] right from the beginning, as soon as I seen supersonic on the word I decided I wanted to teach myself the guitar, I still think [oasis] are cool even although they split in 2009. Liam was cool with Beady eye all great songs and Noel's still rocking with the high flying birds. hopefully they'll reform in 2017 marking the 20th anniversary of Be Here Now.

    God, who knew how much the Irish were hated. This comment section is like 1950s London when they had signs saying NO IRISH, NO BLACKS, NO DOGS. Yes, it's true, most of your favourite artists, including 3/4 of the Beatles have Irish blood. Sorry.

    • @jennifershelley6938
      @jennifershelley6938 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      + Misses Robot -
      I was just thinking that same thing myself.
      Their parents (Peggy and Tommy) were Irish (born and raised). They moved to Manchester, met there and married. Had three sons - who have *all* IRISH DNA. They were born in England and are British nationality - BUT *ETHNICALLY THEY ARE IRISH*. They played GAA football (Irish football) as kids/teens and went to Ireland every summer to visit family. They still had a connection to Ireland. Even now, their Mam has a house in Ireland and they are go back to visit family.
      They are British by birth only. Get over it. Liverpool and Manchester have a large amount of people of Irish descent. It doesn't take anything away from Noel, Liam or Paul to claim they feel Irish or if they claim to feel British. Who are any of you to decide what a total stranger (since you don't know any of these men) what they can/can't feel or think?
      I'm a Yank of European ancestry, but I've always felt more of a connection with Europe than I do the US. I don't hate the US, just don't feel much like an American.
      If people can feel/identify as a different gender - why can't people of 100% Irish dna (born in Britain) feel more like Irish people than British people?

    The opening shot of this film is the canal in King Cross, London. ... On a separate point: Noel always shows such loyalty to England, waving the England flag, having the England flag on Oasis tour programmes in the 1990's, cheering for the England football team and always saying "we" regarding the English team supporters - and having a large Union Jack on his guitar back in the 1990's. I'm aware his ancestry is Irish, but his self-identification has always been English. I'm very surprised therefore to hear him say in the clips in this film that he is Irish (Irish in his attitude, not just in his bloodline).

    As an Irish person I think we try to claim them a lot but so do English people. I think at the ends of the day both countries just want to have the pleasure of saying they produced this amazing band but I think we just have to accept that they are Irish and they are English and we would not have oasis is it wasn’t for the Irishness but we wouldn’t have it without the Englishness either. Everyone I see who has Irish background are so extremely proud of it because we were a great country who fought hard for independence for hundreds of years. This is also another reason why I think second and third generation Irish people shy away from saying that they’re British or whatever because of how Ireland were treated by the brits for so many years and at the end of the day they are Irish and therefore will probably dislike what the brits did to this country. I don’t mind British people where’re you’re English Scottish welsh whatever once you are a good person and u aren’t ignorant to the fact that we Irish are independent proud people and aren’t these people who think we should be still part of Britain and all the rest of it. Bottom line is we don’t get to decide what the Gallaghers choose to be and just accept the fact that without both countries (Ireland and england) there would be no oasis

    • @hannahfitzsimons2180
      @hannahfitzsimons2180 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The irish are known for being musical, so it should be no suprise that alot of great bands have irish roots....i defo reckon there is something in the genes! but they were raised in Manchester at the end of the day so they are still mancs as far as im concerned, its grim up north and thats what created the oasis sound (it wud never have happened in ireland)

    • @chriswhamilton
      @chriswhamilton 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Oasis sound is an amalgamation of everything they were exposed to growing up. Noel says the Oasis punch the air attitude comes from the Irish rebel songs he grew up listening to. Without the mixture of both Irish and English culture we would not have Oasis. Im just thankful we do.

      @Searlaigh Daily Just because his mother was Irish don't make him Irish. Why is it that none of us like when americans claim to be Irish but when it's someone famous the kerry gold butter runs in their veins and they only eat brennan's bread ? He's not Irish while he has an Irish mother he was born and raised in The UK. I am Irish and I am from the oldest county and city in Ireland, Waterford where Thomas Francis Meagher flew the first ever Irish flag. Where Waterford Crystal is made and that very glass is the ball dropped every new years in New York. Waterford has the oldest building in Ireland the reginald's tower.

    What a load of bollocks that they didn't write a song for the England football team because they was Irish!? They fucking adored football and their favourite team is a Manchester club, there proud of being from Manchester, they didn't write one cause they just thought it wasn't for them to do that and might have been a bad career move. Irish my arse.

      Noel Gallagher direct quote from a US radio show in 2014, talking on the English football team: "I am not a fan of the English team....If Ireland were playing England, I would be supporting Ireland."
      Noel from an interview with FourFourTwo magazine: "I've always supported Ireland since I was a kid. Oasis were asked to do the England song and go on at Wembley, we couldn't do it - my uncles would have killed me"

    they're english. my parents are both irish but i consider myself english. it is embarrassing to try and claim you're irish when you were not born and raised there, same as when you have americans claiming to be italian. your blood is the most meaningless aspect of who you are. yeah it will dictate your appearance (im a pasty bastard), so fair enough if you want to say you're irish or italian or whatever in that context, but it's not what makes you who you are. the country you are born and raised in is what shapes you. dion dublin is english. there's a million black england players who are not nigerian or jamaican, they're english. i have no problem them saying they were influenced by their parents' irish ways and were shaped somewhat by irish culture, because they definitely would have been, but to outright say they're irish is stupid. what makes you who you are is way more than just blood, they lived in england their whole lives, they are evidently mancunian and heavily moulded by the area they grew up in, the people they grew up with, and english culture in general. i say this all as a big oasis fan so i'm not just having a go
