When they increased the licensing requirements for drones in the past few years, requiring citizens that make money with their flying cameras or choosing to volunteer their services for no fee to register with the government to operate a drone, the erosion of rights began. Since a camera drone is representative of our 1st Amendment right to free press (like any other camera), I feel this is the primer for additional laws that will first require licensing for a citizen to own a camera, but eventually cameras will become so costly that only the government will be allowed to use them for ‘safety and security’. This level of legislation is OUT OF CONTROL and our rights and freedoms to buy and use something based on our choice rather than the limits the government puts on us makes us no better than the very countries they are claiming are a threat. Our own government is the largest threat today to our freedom…
Yep, and with what will likely be an inferior product from the companies who use their own software and designs. DJI will always be here, just under different names
they will make drones super expensive because they are effective tools of war and they don't want american people to have access to these tools for whats to come, trust me.
@monipenny408 sorry but that’s not a comparable argument. Eating is a necessity, a drone is not. I can go without “eating” skydio, because of the simple fact that they are trying to get rid of the products that are viable for most media companies to force their shitty product for a way higher price. I can pass on their shit. And if it comes to the food argument, growing your own food isn’t impossible and wouldn’t have to lead to not eating 🤷

Politicians across the spectrum and their "staff" tend not to be very bright about the "unintended" consequences of bills they propose. Watching from the Philippines where they are talking about more strict drone laws. Perhaps only criminals will have drones in the future.
You're not wrong, but this time it's all Republican paranoia. No money will come from this for the American market and all that will happen is substandard drones with bad software and make the hobby something only few will want to continue. When it comes to expensive drones of high quality for the military the USA can make plenty but for normal consumer that is not going to happen.
@@MrDecessus Not necessarily true. A lot of the cheap chinese clones are using open source software and open source board/controller designs. And a number of cheap crap you find on aliexpress, is made with 'factory second' literally dumpster dive components. And that is how they got started. We don't have that here in the US, because our labor cost more and we banned lead solder, way back in the 80s, but no one had figured out how to do wave soldering with lead-free solder, and robotic pick and pluck machines were new and very expensive. We used to be able to dumpster dive for stuff here too. The issue is, they need a paper trail in case there is a problem, so a manufacturer can issue a recall for parts made between a specific time because they have a paper trail, they don't have to recall all of the products. So they order a cases of components with like 10 reels per case, in part because they are cheaper but also because they all come from the same manufacturing batch. Not all components work from the manufacturer, they have a defect rate of say 1%, so they spot check them, and if they don't pass the spot check, they get thrown in the dumpster, and the manufacturer sends them a new case. The same thing happens at manufacturing plants, it is cheaper to throw out a bad batch, because now the components are mislabled so now, you can have xyz ic's or diodes or resisters. If you go through and test each one individually, you can find the bad ones and remove them. That pack of 10k resistors you bought from china for 3 dollars, is most likely just cut off the reels and repackaged and sold. They don't know why they are in the dumpster, they may not even test them. they make 3 bucks with maybe 50 cents in costs. That is like a days wages. The same thing happens with say prototype board, they gOnce production is over, and after a certain amount of time, and everyone is happy, they throw out all the extras in the dumpster. Well if you dumpster dive, you can get reels of components. they are either good components and they wer et thrown in the trash. Then the 'engineers' that have the test set-ups, were probably staying after work, and using the equipment to do small runs of stuff. They built a whole industry, based on industry waste. It is something we had, but we no longer do. The same thing happened in the UK. Part of this is also liability laws. If it is a US manufacturer, then if something goes bad, you sue. If it is a chinese manufacturer, you aren't going to sue.

I'm AnSoc all the way, so trust me, I'm no fan of the govt., but this is sooooo "just another day in DC" and has very little to do with Stafanik or Skydio, those two are just jumping on the bandwagon because it benefits them. The first ban on DJI drones was in 2019, there has been 3 since. While I don't think this new ban is necessary, there are absolutely legit concerns regarding national security about Chinese electronics and specifically Chinese drones. China is going bye bye as a country by the end of the decade anyway, ban or no ban it's time to start looking for a new drone company.
The fact is there’s nothing wrong with DJI drones, it’s the fact that the company is leading the market and it’s hard for competitors get their share. So what can be done? Hire lobbyists to propose a bill before congress
the only reason dji is so popular is it's so easy to fly their rtf's that even a 6 year old can fly them...Much to the chagrin of the long time non dji flyers that's what we have now..or at least the mentality at large. ..Most dji users don't seem to have any idea on how to fly well with other systems even though it's possible if the dji users can stand flying on 25mbps and avoid the "A" channel like the plague.. The whole group etiquette thing seems lost to them..
Hopefully it takes 3 years to go thru as they're saying. That's my only hope, at least give us a little more time. The government wants us out of the air, period.

DJI (and other Chinese drone makers) are popular because they are far and away superior to any US made offerings. This whole dji ban was started because Skydio was making shitty subpar drones and instead of working to make them better thy instead enlisted the lobbyists to fear monger. If the republiclowns were really concerned with peoples personal info and national security they would stop covering for an ex president who still possesses national secrets AND they'd stop funding a genocide that will inevitably turn many people to radicalized vengeance AND they'd pass legislation STOPPING our own corporations from selling our personal info for profit!!! No, this is NOT an attempt at anything good..... and don't get me started on the Tik Tok ban that is solely because young people are using it to inform the world in short snippets of the genocide being committed....
They were never trying to do a good thing and it's no accident. They do not want us to have drones period so they are making sure we don't have drones!!
Yes. The wording in the bill is that it will effect all FUTURE DJI products that require FCC approval to transmit signal. Not CURRENT DJI products that already have FCC transmission approval.

Do you mean the Skydio 2+? It is not available to consumers anymore. The next X10 model is around $16k for the "starter kit". Not sure if your question is rhetorical, if so, never mind! 😎
Seems like DJI might have a workaround to the current Drone Bill, apparently they have partnered with the American Company Anzu Robotics to license technology for sale in the American market. Wouldn’t be surprised if prices increased, but their tech would still be available in the US. DJI controls about 70% of the global commercial drone market and 80% of the U.S. market.
Not true, it's already fcc authorized meaning it can sell for the next 10 years along with all the drones that are already fcc authorized. This bill says nothing about retroactively banning already authorized drones. That is possible that the fcc retroactively bans the fcc listing's, but that's not in this bill.
I have a solution to this problem, and this is what I would do:first, remove all the electronics from the drone Airframe, than install a normal speed controller and receiver. The only electronics that can be used is the 4 brushless motors. My model airplanes have normal speed controllers and receivers as well as servos. So the government can't stop me.The only thing that can is an EMP which is a much bigger issue.
The problem here is that it also effects Canada who would also deal with China. But when the American market disaperes the Canadian market goes with it.
I cannot get a clear answer. Does this mean the DJI Air 3 I now own will be grounded if this passes? Or will it only apply to future drones? I have already emailed my members of Congress. So far, only one has responded but not with an intelligent response.
If you've already purchased a DJI product it is not effected by this bill. The DJI products you've already purchased have been approved to broadcast/transmit signals by FCC. This bill will effect FUTURE DJI products that haven't received FCC approval to broadcast/transmit a signal.
It is based on new imports being banned after 4 years. At that time they are talking about removing the FCC certification on the drones. So technically the existing drone could be illegal to fly without a valid certification if they decide to revoke the already issued one, BUT FCC has no enforcement arm to do anything about it, and the drone you poses would still show the FCC certification. So TECHNICALLY it could be considered banned, but in reality it will continue to fly just fine. Personally I wouldn't do any firmware updates if it passes to make sure no one pulls any funny stuff and tries to brick the drone that way, but that's giving congress a lot of undue credit that they would take it that far.
@@AlienDronesit also means that any current RID compliant (hardwired) drone that will be on the blacklist (potential fcc revoked cert) will be able to be discovered by police etc using droneid apps since they probably transmit the manufacturer info. But yeah they should still fly
This law is not for the existing drones people own. For these drones they already gave licenses so they cant take that away from you. Its only for new types of drones they still have to make and ask licenses for. The drones you own and still want to buy that are lincensed ..they cant take that away. Your Air 3 is and will always be safe.
What if Chinese consult with companies who manufacture drones made in Singapore or Vietnam, the other company makes the drone.... Then they pay the Chinese company? Then what?

Unfortunately not. The PITA government just started an official investigation into Anzu robotics, who is owned and operated in the US and licensed the technology from DJI and building it in Malaysia. The gov is saying that it is an attempt to get around the proposed ban, so there is precedent that everyone will be hunted down that is remotely connected to CCP tech...

What is really worrisome is a bill introduced in the Senate by a democrat, Sen John Tester from Montana. It echoes the house proposed bill with a few refinements. Sen Tester is a senior member of the Senate and chairs the Senate subcommittee on Defense Appropriations. These anti-drone bills, and more specifically these anti-Chinese drone bills are attached to the much larger defense appropriations bill which will get much more attention and has to be approved despite that it is so large no one really knows everything that is in it. With Tester’s backing and democratic control of the senate this bill will be sent to the democratically controlled White House to be enacted and signed into law. Now is the time for drone operators to be worried and to be very worried that these carefully crafted and disguised bills targeting the Chinese drone industry will come to fruition…

They certainly will be included by the bills until proven that no influence by ROC does or could exist, which is a tough sell, but maybe in many, many years later after much expense... I think it is more important to try and keep these bills from becoming passed in the first place because just this type of nuance will result in the consumer drone industry suffering for many years, if it survives at all.
US manufacturers will struggle because they cannot easily export there machines due to ITAR restrictions, EU and Australian makers don't face such restrictions to send them that way.
Honestly, we don't know that. Until (and IF) the final bills are resolved by the house and senate, we all can guess and give our opinions, but it it is a possibility that the FCC approval is revoked for existing products. DJI could also get pissed off and brick current drones via a quick firmware update if they are locked out of the US market. Again, not saying this will happen but who would of thought the US government would ever attack the consumer drone market with a "BAN" in the first place? It's all nuts and defies common sense.
You see if you’re anticipating a ban no matter what then it’s best to allow that to happen. The ban applies to the US. They will still be sold in other countries that still allow the import.
You won't be able to get your hands on new drones without being black market products etc. Existing drones should still take off but if the fcc revoked their existing certifications it would be illegal to fly. Only future products from DJI seeking FCC signal transmission approval will be effected per the bill's verbiage.
Pardon my ignorance.. Just seeking clarification. is FCC approval to transmit signal a default by the purchase itself, or is it a step that needs to be taken after purchasing.
Well if you dumpster dive, you can get reels of components. they are either good components and they wer
et thrown in the trash.

Seems like DJI might have a workaround to the current Drone Bill, apparently they have partnered with the American Company Anzu Robotics to license technology for sale in the American market. Wouldn’t be surprised if prices increased, but their tech would still be available in the US. DJI controls about 70% of the global commercial drone market and 80% of the U.S. market.
BUT.............. they just allowed 6 surveillance balloons to fly over and video/photograph all military instillations.
It's not just drones. Just got a DJI Pocket 3 camera. It will not be available in the USA if the ban on parts passes.
And to think we were worried about Remote ID changing the industry 😮
The problem here is that it also effects Canada who would also deal with China. But when the American market disaperes the Canadian market goes with it.
Not true
Why would it go?
Really. If the U.S market has a problem it can affect the Canadian market but only slightly.
Canada's not banning dji. Canada doesn't need to. Just because the U.S sneezes doesn't mean that everybody catches a cold.
Why did you expect an intelligent response from some in Congress?

Everyone needs to understand the wording of the bill. The way it's worded is that it will effect all FUTURE DJI products that require FCC approval to transmit signal. Not CURRENT DJI products that already have FCC signal transmission approval. So...if you currently have a DJI product...gimbal, drone, microphone etc that already gained FCC approval to broadcast or transmit signal by the FCC, then that product will not be effected. Only future products from DJI seeking FCC signal transmission approval will be effected per the bill's verbiage.
Pardon my ignorance.. Just seeking clarification. is FCC approval to transmit signal a default by the purchase itself, or is it a step that needs to be taken after purchasing. In other words, If someone already has one of these products, are they by default protected, or do they need to take steps. Thanks in advance for your help :)
@@cfox28 If you purchased the product in the U.S. and it broadcasts a signal (WiFi, radio, bluetooth etc.) it already received FCC approval and is not effected by this bill. Hope this helps.
