    The sucess of DJI is not only with cheap price and good quality. It has to do with the DJI open SDK that allows third party to develop various applications that is now widely used in drone surveying, fire fighting, movie making, etc. Probably also in warfare by the US Army.

      Post WWII, the US turned itself to service industries. Less production because younger Americans want better lives than their parents working in the factories. Society, in general, goes from farming to industry and then services. It was a big boom for the US to switch from agriculture to industry at the dawn of the Henry Ford era. That was our time to become #1 and win WWII by producing more than countries worldwide. Today, we call it over-supply to drive prices down.
      Today, China has 12 times the shipyard production ability of the US. The US Navy uses a Korean shipyard to build our warship. That means we had already lost before any war could start. That is why we bad-mouth China at every turn to try to delay this economic reality. We have 11 carrier groups, and more than half are in maintenance and repair. We no longer have enough money to pay for the overhead cost of the world's largest military. We borrow or print 1 trillion USD annually to pay for our government expenses.
      Whoever is at the top, like DJI, therfore the SDK, Windows, and Cisco networking, also has the SDK. That is a natural progression. When Amazon builds its eCommerce platform, it also has the SDK for the Amazon cloud. As a country, we have "SDK" too, in the US we have "Demcrcay, liberty and freedom" as SDK. For China, their "SDK" is a Confucius doctrine adopted by most East Asian countries.

    There is a need for an open source non-proprietary drone design with multiple configurations that could be made DIY or on an assembly line, probably with pvc tubing.

    One last thought. Concerning those companies that gave up the consumer market in favor of government dollars, I don't blame them one bit. However, isn't it odd that nobody has tried to step in to fill the gap? I am willing to pay "hobbyist" or small business prices for mapping tools or new drones that inspire creativity. It can't be that difficult to create mapping software, it's already in existence. So, I blame the "politics" for getting in the way. It only confirms my belief that the government and corporations that serve them have a hive-mind agenda to deny the first 400 feet of airspace for commercial use. The hobbyist stands in the way of unfettered use of that airspace and they will not stop until we are eliminated.

    I think DJI could open source some of the code and keep their Cloud Solutions on NSA controlled services like Google Cloud or AWS. Its is likely DJI has contracts with Chinese military.

    I seems to me that the DJI problem could be solved by not collecting or transmitting data to third parties. Software fix.

    • @RickBeacham
      @RickBeacham 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      They already did this. DJI could simply keep data in the USA on AWS or Google Compute. The reason they are targeting DJI is that no one can compete with DJI.

    • @mmancino1982
      @mmancino1982 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@RickBeachamlazy solution honestly. Ya I wish there were competitors. Someone needs to step TF up instead of using lawfare against them.

    • @RickBeacham
      @RickBeacham หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@mmancino1982 Indeed! Competition is key but there are none. AMD vs Intel vs Nvidia vs Snapdragon vs Apple Silicon = better products for consumers. And we have seen AMD and Intel come out with better CPUs and GPUs... Apple silicon is still anti consumer without longevity and product support is short compared to Windows 11 or linux. But consumers have options or will have better options with Arm running on Windows or Raspberry Pi.
      Having zero competition is really a bad sign.
      DJI should be worried because competition leads to more innovation. And a bigger user base.

    China has 1.4 billion people, and the US has 330 million people. Germany has 80 million. The country with a larger population has an economic advantage in terms of the scale of consumer products. That is why German consumer products after WWII can't compete with the US. So, they go with the high-end version of American Chevy and Ford, for example.
    Since Asia / India has half of the population on the planet, who can tap into that population Consumers have a low unit cost advantage. American movie industry enjoys that advantage. That is why China has the Silk Road policy to reach 140 countries worldwide. If a company makes a product with a net 1 cent profit, selling to 4 billion people, for example, can work nicely.
    This population formula is purely basic economic. China use this as an advantage, the US before China rise use mititary force and US aid with 800 mititary based to enforce our advnatge. We tell the world "law-based policy," "US interest," and "Freedom, liberty, and democracy." We also control the money flow system - SWIFT- and can print USD to export. That is why we can live so well post WWII.

      @@NewCompVisuals manufacturing in the USA can be good. Some FABRICS for instance are still manufactured in the USA also silicon fabrication is way ahead. Thanks to TSCM and other less known companies.
      Drones on the other hand fit really well into into the Hong Kong regions economy and silicon ecosystem. Where do you think Ukraine buys it drone parts from?
      Micro controllers and low voltage Arm based silicon are easy to produce in China. They don't need the latest TSMC fabs like GPUs for AI models or LLMs.

      IPhone and all comsumer PC boards are made in China, consumer-grade routers and TVs are made in China, and Amazon products are made in China. Without China, the US inflation would be 1000% higher because we keep printing US dollars to avoid recession.

    A year or two ago, I watched a video from Ukraine, maybe CNN. This was before Ukraine were making their own and even using them like they are now. The reporter was interviewing this family. The 14-year-old son was out flying his drone he got as a gift and he saw Russian soldiers in his neighborhood and he told his dad and they called and got through to the military and the army showed up and got the Russian squad. After that, China started using GPS on the drones to give Russia the location of the operator and a few civilian drone operators were killed. Then, Ukraine decided to make their own. I don't have a drone yet. Put the brakes on it after watching the interview and I will never own an iPhone. i have really started to dislike intensely the made in China label on everything. It's like they're playing us.

    Do your homework - the Chinese are all about drones these days and have even recently developed solar powered drones to greatly extend flight times. There is a ton of videos posted over the past 4 years at least showing how China has mastered and weaponized this technology. They can also launch them from various ways to include from ships, planes, helicopters and even from a canister launching system that looks similar to HIMARS where the drone is rapidly ejected like a missile and then the wings quickly fold out once it's airborne. Last I read also, Ukraine is even buying drones from China because of their unmatched military capability. Concerning the recent flood of drones into the U.S., I feel they are undoubtedly and very stealthily being deployed by China and that they will at some point soon carry nuclear payloads and probably at a time when people in the U.S. are beginning to think nothing harmful will come from them, probably about the time the media dies down over it.
