This is an incredible way to open a movie. I liked this siege of Numidia even more than the opening battle scene in the original Gladiator.
For me one of the best short battles Ive seen, just for how unique it is
I loved this opening battle, only thing that was a miss is that they all somehow loose their shields when the fighting starts
@@JamesLeRoux-n2o indeed, also the fact that Acacius (Pedro) removes his helmet for whatever reason in mid battle, or the fact that they wait for him to cut the rope of the Siege Tower gate, which i hated. But on the pros, this entire battle looks like an old painting, the costumes are outstanding. Superb cinematography, i think they've done a very good job.
It is more like the assault on Syracuse, carried out by the Roman general Claudius Marcellus in the best times of the Roman Republic.
they should make a movie about flavius belisarius which is cannon xd than this
Very artsy Roman battle. The battle from the first movie felt more medieval.
0:28 Legio III Augusta the Roman military unit in charge of operations in North Africa.
Their headquarters were located in lambaesis now days Algeria !!
It is more like the assault on Syracuse, carried out by the Roman general Claudius Marcellus in the best times of the Roman Republic.
this ancient sea battle is real indeed
ooooh that scorpio balista is aswesome
Brutal escena
Numidia of old is now called Algeria.
I know the Castles built in Amsterdam had stone stairways located on the left of the entrance none on the right. This was because most warriors were right handed and it is hard to swing a sword going up the stairway with the wall right next to your sword hand, the stairs were uneven that didn't help either, and big round stones were thrown down the stairs as the soldiers came up.
Awsome
pure science fiction!
I feel like it's Constantinople
I like how Numidian women took arms like Amazonian warriors compared to Roman women who were less barbarians 😂
Fictional
starts credibly but no way Roman legionaries go to a party without their shields
Good point, we've already discussed this topic in a comment down below and i think we all agree 100%... but at 2:45 we can see they have their shields even in the siege tower and further on at 3:24 we can see Legionaries in full equipment yet again, and they're making use of their shields too, guess we will never know the reason behind Acacius leading a foolish frontal assault without shields! 😄
Can i have back my old naval battle in Ben Hur?
Agree! It was in Technicolor and makes this look gray and drab
@@albertovalcarenghi350 the naval battle in Ben-Hur looks like a joke when compared to this one (obviously), and to be honest we've never seen such thing on the big screen since then, i'm just glad Ridley brought this genre back, and logically speaking, it looks staggering (Cinematography, Costumes, VFX, Set Design..)
Ben Hur 2016?

Well... They wasnt BLK, we wuznt
Wow! Did they have semiphore back then?
I don't get this, in the first movie it was more than clear numidia was under the roman empire, how come here it seems like the Romans just got there for the first time???
That's wrong, in the first Gladiator Numidia is not even mentioned once (all we got from that movie was a glimpse of a map in Marcus Aurelius tent) there's only a scene in Zuccabar but that place belonged to Mauretania Caesariensis and not Numidia. It's a movie in any case, don't really know how you guys find the time to analyze such things, it's hilarious because in 30 years we've never seen an Epic film that was also historical yet but when it comes to Ridley productions everyone must hurry to say something smart about it 😂😂😂
You've come to the wrong shop for historical accuracy. 😅
Comparing the music in the 1st movie to this. Is like comparing BMW to a Ford Pinto
It's not a proper 'naumachia' unless someone orders "Ramming speed!" 😅
1:31 En esa época no existían los fundibulos, ese fué un invento medieval.
Alexander the great used widely trebuchets
Numidia is Algeria now
Naval part cool but sward fight part very forgettable.
Maximus maximus maximus
Very accurate arty from both sides. Incredible. Not really. Moving targets would be hard to hit.
Numidia battle was BC and Gladiador facts were AD. I don't understand?
What you said is just wrong on so many levels, North Africa had plenty of coastal cities like this: Utica/Carthage/Caesarea/Leptis Magna etc... also, that's such a lame comment to make about a "movie" as if we're watching it for historical references, these comments are honestly embarrassing and cringe.
