Brave is a 2012 American animated fantasy film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. Brave is Pixar's first film with a female protagonist the story of Princess Merida of DunBroch (Macdonald) who defies an age-old custom, causing chaos in the kingdom by expressing the desire not to be betrothed.

Merida is one of my favorite princesses. And I love that it doesn’t end with her getting together with some guy, it’s about the love between a mother and her daughter
We were born to inherit the stars!
Her true love was with the gigachad that never got a single line smh

The will-o-the-wisp in mythology are sinister ghost lights that appear over bogs, swamps, and marshes and are known to lead travelers astray or even to their own deaths.
They were also believed to be the spirits of lost souls who were unable to enter heaven or hell and were seen as an omen of death.

One time my sister was merida for Halloween, shes a natural ginger and some random lady tugged on her hair to see if it was real☠️☠️
Nah 💀💀 💀
That’s foul
She’s gonna poison her now💀
They didnt thirst for the mom once which is impressive.
(Despite her technically being the thickest pixar mom)
So thicc she’ll survive hibernation
I’m honestly surprised they didn’t thirst for Maudie either and she’s dummy thicc with tons of cleavage.
The only thing involving her that they talked about was the titty dive and that was more so out of being impressed by one of the cub triplets doing it.
Maudy was thicker
I mean she was a bear the entirety of the film so that probably turned them off
Brenda Chapman, one of the directors of Prince of Egypt, was supposed to be the sole director of this movie. But through major production problems that can clearly be seen in the movie, had to be replaced by another person.
We were robbed of Brave being on par with Prince of Egypt 🥲 That's crazy
I’ll always remember that and always resent Pixar for it.
I was about to do the Shraffrillas thing and scream about how she, a director of the Prince Of Egypt, was pushed away
@@MarcosValcuende ik
It wasn’t really major production problems that got her booted, it was John Lasseter, who was constantly butting heads with Brenda Chapman and eventually fired her, which isn’t a surprise given what we know now regarding his degeneracy, which led to him getting removed from Pixar once that and other allegations were found out
"We're 200 years past arranged marriage", umm India, which is more populous than the US and Canada combined.
multiply that by 4 and india still is more populous
I thought of that too

Erhm, source?
@@Ryan_SongsBruh, seriously?
This movie doesn't leave much of an impression but man, they did do well with Merida's hair. I almost wish this was more about Merida adventuring and kicking ass instead of so much of the story focusing on the castle and political affairs.
"I like Merida, I just wish she was in a better movie" is my exact sentiment.
Yeah this movie put me to sleep as a kid
As soon as the mom turns into a bear my brain just turns off. I really wish we had gotten the movie the original creator wanted, because it clearly was not this.
If I had a nickel for every time Disney told a story about someone turning into a bear I would have two nickels which an arguably isn’t much, but it’s weird that it happened twice.
What was the original idea?
The original had the bear part in tho-, the problem is the movie is taking two different directions at once thanks to studio intervention
@@Gamerguy-ud1zoone is Disney animation the other is Pixar
What was the original plot?
Get this. The director they got to replace Brenda Chapman had no idea what the movie was about. In a BTS special features or an interview whatever, he said “gender has nothing to do with this movie”. WTF!!! How is a movie about a princess and her mother clashing about getting into an arranged marriage or living strongly and independently not a gendered story!!!
Ah yes" gender has nothing to do with this movie" , forced arranged marriage well known for forcing women into marriages they dont want or abusive ones is not a gendered issue at all. Not paying attention to her and dismissing a lot of her thoughts because shes a woman not gendered at all. Idk what bro was thinking
@@fellownigerianhere6378unironically this
I mean to be fair it 100% is more of a family movie. The person that is forcing Merida into what she is “supposed to do” is her mother. You could say it was a gendered story if it was her father or brothers but they really don’t care.
This movie is very gendered one and it's most good when it is: a struggle between femininity (Merida's mom) and being a tomboy (Merida) and understanding you need both to function healthily. By the end Merida embraces more tactful diplomacy, making connections, "mending bonds" and sees a power in that sort of performance (her mom could make the room freeze and behave in the middle of the fight just with that poised aura and wanted her daughter to have that too albeit forcefully in the beginning) and Merida's mom learns to ride horses with loose hair and various "boyish" survival skills that come in handy too in times of need: catching fish, self defense etc. They learn from each other and learn to appreciate both skill sets and ways of being: the civil political manners and the freedom and independence of being able to survive in the wild. They see how having both of these options can be helpful or even life-saving in certain situations and nothing to scoff at so they come to compromise and understanding.
The message is deep and fantastic, but handled in a messy, underdeveloped way and it shows. Which is very sad because when movie gets into relationship between the two it is at its peak.
@@InternetNonsense And yet the mother gives her music lessons, which... correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't women historically banned from playing music? If you watch _Fantasia_ again, you'll notice there's literally only two women in the orchestra.
Brave is far from being a bad film, but watching it you can't help but notice that it reeks of "development hell" with so many weird ideas from different people thrown into the mix.
It’s just super boring
@@Just_niaxxno way💀
“There’s a lot of wood. I don’t see much Elijah though” that was comedy gold holy shit
I remember how the people were saying that the critics were loving it, such an empowering movie until, SHE TURNED INTO A FRIKIN BEAR lmaooo
The trailers were pretty misleading
This is 'would you rather be alone with a bear or a man in the woods' the movie.
I totally thought they were going to bring that up lol
Did you know brave is the only ginger person to be a main character in a Disney movie
As a ginger person, it's for the best
what about quasimodo? and hercules?
I will be the second
How about Ariel?
Bruhhh
To me the problem with the story isn't the mom turning into a bear but the fact that the most of the movie takes place in the castle and I'd love to see more of the woods and the magic and Merida doing cool stuff with her bow.
I legit remember rewatching it in 8th grade and went “ Wait, it didn’t start with the witch immediately? “ I made a rewrite of Brave in my head and stuck to it so hard that I thought it actually happened 😭
i hate when i reconstruct things better than they are. i rewatch them of share them and im just like “no it’s so much better in my mind” lol
i’m actually embarrassed at how hard i at laughed at Kor saying “umm there’s a lot of wood…i don’t see much Elijah though.”
As a red head, I can relate with turning my mother into a bear
"I love Merida, I just wish she was in a better movie" is also a sentiment shared by people who love Tiana, tbh.
Brave 2: The brothers all fight a brutal civil war to see who succeeds their father as king only for their sister to swoop in with her husband's army from France or Burgundy to claim the throne herself.
Now I just need a “we binged rise of the brave tangled dragons” video to complete the saga
It's funny to me to hear them having such strong scottish accents, because on the brazilian dub the voices are normal portuguese lol

"your mom could kill you at any point but she's holding back" so just like in real life?
the first act of this movie is actually amazing imo, and the whole bear part shouldn't have existed. it could've been so iconic and great
The story behind the brave film is so mind boggling and explains why there’s such a huge tonal shift in both halves of the film. I highly recommend reading up on it for those curious.
If anyone’s curious why Brave was worse than previous Pixar films, Eliquorice did an amazing video on this movie called “Brave was a Disappointment” which goes into extensive detail of all the problems in this movie as well as its troubled production which ultimately led to this movie feeling half baked
Glad they acknowledged how Brenda Chapman was unfairly booted off of her own film. Really sucks that such a great writer and director was kicked out because of Lasseter. I mean she wrote and directed for The Prince of Egypt!
Not to mention it took Pixar another 10 years to have a female director with Domee Shi for Turning Red.
what’s crazy is that this is one of the few movies that doesnt have a annoyingly “funny” side character accompanying the main.
I never realized the similarities between this and little mermaid, childhood ruined
The fact that this used to be my favorite princess movie when I was younger 😭
This was the first movie I watched in theaters as a kid, because it was a school field trip. Unfortunately, this was the first movie I watched in theaters. Fortunately, it could only go uphill from here.
Now we have 7 Pixar films left: A Bug's Life, Finding Dory, Inside Out's 1 & 2, Soul, Onward and The Good Dinosaur.
Genuinely shocked that they didn’t mention the Man or Bear discourse throughout the entirety of this reaction

when i first came to ireland this was the only thing i could watch for some reason
I remember watching this as a kid and being confused as to why her name was Brave, because she didn’t seem very brave to me. Safe to say 7 year old me was very disappointed.
Is no one acknowledging the fact that there’s a little God in this movie one of the characters has so many muscles, he makes doom slayer scared
That Mor'du reminds me so much of a Dark Souls or Eldin Ring boss
10:10 in their eyes, Merida’s character growth is the equivalent of Jimmy Buffet’s in Margaritavile

I think this movie should of been about the competition it would have been more interesting.
This was the last movie I saw with my grandma before she passed away. Very special to me
useless funfact I guess: in french, this movie is name "Rebelle" which just mean rebel (or something like that)
as a french dude from quebec, that's true
That feels more fitting than Brave.

Whatever creative disagreements that director had with Lasseter, he obviously was wrong af and should have just let her make the damn movie she wrote.

The last act of Brave is so stupid and convoluted. Why is the mother still a bear after they reconcile AND Merida repair the Tapestry? It's so we can have forced conflict! So stupid.
Merida needed to humble her pride, admit her guilt and apologize.
@@WalkingJellyfish But she did all that before her mother was even discovered. The witch never specified that the spell would only break at dawn. She said that was the deadline, that's it. Again, feels like they kept it vague because properly building it and explaining it would have taken effort they never wanted to take.

Love and hate are opposites, indifference is the absence of love, but hate is the equal and opposite of love. Which means yes, Pure Hate is theoretically just as strong as the power of love. Technically stronger since hate can be squared to make love but love can't become hate in its own.
