Thank you Monique and Naveen for the great playthrough! I think you have the best ones out there. That's not hyperbole, I really do believe it. I tend to use playthroughs to decide if a game is worth getting, or at least playing, and you've definitely helped me time and time again. I think it's your ability to explain the rules concisely, as well as making it clear exactly what you're doing on each turn. Of course, the fact that we tend to have similar tastes in games helps! I think the only thing that would make it better (for me at least), would be playthroughs with multiple people. As for Ora et Labora, I think it's a definite play, but not buy.

Nathan, I don't know what made us forget to respond to your lovely comment, but we apologize. That is very sweet of you to say and it really means so much to us both. Collabs for higher player count games is definitely a goal for us for 2023! And that is a great assessment, definite play, but not buy.

Amazing video as usual, I love Uwe's games but Ora is the one I haven't tried yet.
Also, you asked fot it, so @33:01 Naveen collects clay without using any building - I guess Monique's victory is legit..

I just noticed that too. Having watched the glass road playthrough in which Naveen did pretty much the same thing, I conclude that Naveen doesn't know how to use the action wheel properly. Oh well, more practice there Naveen. Nice playthrough though.

Great explanation and play thru! I rarely make it all the way through play thrus, but this was enjoyable and not too long. The secret must be in the editing. Well done.

For what it’s worth, the “long” two player game isn’t really that much longer-it’s pretty easy after a couple plays to get playtime closer to 2-2.5 hours (which yes, is still long).
The “long” version uses the “regular” side of the production wheel, so goods build a little faster (which speeds the early game) and there are three turns per round instead of two. Rules as written say players take turns AAB-BBA-AAB-BBA, but in our plays we don’t like the feel of a single player getting three consecutive actions, so we follow ordering more similar to the 3-4 player game, ABA-BAB-ABA-BAB. It flows pretty smoothly and you’d be surprised what a difference it can make to have some of those 3-4 player buildings in the mix.
This is right up there at the top of the list for Rosenbergs for me (though it’s a tough call between this and A Feast for Odin).
I actually prefer this at two players (long version, with modified turn ordering as above)-three is ok, as is four, but there it gets a bit more unruly to track who has what building as the game progresses.
[Edit: oh, and you only play down to three buildings at the end of the “long” version, so don’t have quite as brutal an ending condition-yeah, there are more total buildings, but there is more flexibility on not requiring players to play until they’ve built even the buildings no one wants. ]

I just finished watching this play through, because I have just purchased this very old title. So I am late on both counts......lol. In fact as I am writing this, the parcel has arrived.
I love your teach, very smooth, excellent work. I don't mind long games as me and my friend used to spend full days on any type of game, although that is mainly due to my friends extreme AP..........lol. It has never bothered me though as I have always loved the experience. I purchased this as I thought it was well out of print. Great work to you both and well done on excellent videos. Sorry, I've gone on a bit......oooops.

My biggest regret in gaming is that I sold my copy of Ora et Labora a while ago when I got Caverna. I have tried getting one again, but couldn’t find one yet. Taking into account the positioning of the buildings makes this game so great.

Happened to just play the game this weekend for the first time in years and remembered how much I loved it. I've only played the 2-player game once, and it felt like a completely different game to me-scores were much higher (because almost every building gets built) and the game went *much* longer. At 3 or 4, it is still long, but you play a fixed number of rounds and everything is a lot tighter, so it doesn't overstay its welcome as much, IMO.

Love O&L, love the multi-faceted scoring and strategies that you need to focus on as you mentioned.
The ending condition does seem to drag it out more. Wonder if you could house rule either only 1 building left in the offer, or once the round marker passes the 'E' building phase - which would have cut off 9 extra rounds from your game.
Great playthrough, loved it and great job coming down to only 1 point with two very diverse play styles.

To me this seems like Le Havre but on land. Passed on Le Havre mostly because it felt you have one path to that game, and I know others will disagree and that is okay. Here too sure you can do settlements/buildings vs tokens but your buildings/settlements give you tokens and you can use your opponents stuff and that stuff is in Le Havre, so idk. Plus Le Havre is nice at 2p, taking multiple turns down the port, but I enjoy more people so one time down the port isn't so fun. Here more people going into 3+ hours, and it's not that interesting, won't be playing this anytime.
