Just started watching you guys…a dream vacation is driving down to Key West. I’ll just say I use that analogy with some of my not so pleasant customers who are Drs and you’d think they would have a better bedside manner. You catch more bees with honey than vinegar. It surprises me some when they don’t understand what I’m telling them. Keep up the good work and thanks for the videos!
A rule of thumb in business is 20% of your customers produce 80% of your business. Any customer we get a bad vide from we put them behind all our good custermers. (unless business is slow) and new customers give us 60% down until we get to know them. I have a good friend going our on his own here in Seattle with a mobile boat repair and maintince business(10 years expierence)and I reccomended your channel. It would help a lot of small business owners if you could tell them how you got started and how important bookkeeping is! Thanks you and your wife have a wonderful channel! Also love how well you treat your employees with respect and dont make problems prersonal. :)
Thanks for recommending us to your friend! As you know small Business is not easy! Matt and I are a team each of us having huge responsibilities to make us successful. I struggle understanding mechanics and he doesn’t touch the books 😀
My wife and I were the same way in our women’s clothing business. I did personal and merchandising and she did the books and warehouse for 20 years till we sold the business to a couple good employees.
Good to hear you separated yourself from trouble you don't need. You have plenty of appreciative customers who deserve your time. That man has his own troubles and you're not a mental health provider. You tried and that's good enough. Like Super-Fast Matt says, "there is never perfect there is only good enough"!
Thanks! We’re always trying to learn and grow! 👍 This guy is not worth or experience he will find out soon enough. lol the boat caretaker called us this week for more work. I let them know we are done.
I work as a technician in a similar field and it always amazes me how people with all these toys and disposable income can be so miserable. I totally understand why you fired that client though. Calling into question your integrity is a deal breaker. How can you move forward with a buisness relationship if there's no trust?
Matt, don't compromise your values. Their are so many who greatly value you and your service. These nasty people all think they can use negativity to get free or discounted service. Its probably worked for him in the past. But no need for you and your high quality company to deal with nasty people. My line to nasty people always was, 'take a look at my back when I walk away, its the last thing you will see from me.'
Love it …. Yup lol you’ll never believe it just this week they hired a boat caretaker and they called us to do work! I kindly let her know that we would NOT work with them … she had no clue.
Do boat motors need air filters?, be more efficient just having intake noise baffle, no restrictions, increase bang for your buck . Alternator is bad, pretty much my grandmas hairdresser could tell you that.
I think your business is excellent. My opinion was directed at Volvo. To complete repairs you need a computer science degree. Keep up the good work and good luck.
All you can do is your best, as you are. You only answer ultimately to the lord above as all of us. So, you are doing us a great service, going into detail of the craziness of electrical really helps us all, make it simple! Thank you
Oh man! Unsecured batteries are pet peeve of mine and missing HVAC valve caps. I try to explain these are not stationary machines, they move in every direction and those expensive batteries won't last long getting thumped around.
I came across a mechanic down in the keys, he will only except cash from customers, also if one his customers recommend him to one of their friends and he gets stiffed he dissolves that relationship. His customers know the consequences if they send him a deadbeat customer. Very smart way I think to do business, the people in the keys always need a good mechanic. Some may say ruthless, what do ya`ll think..
I was fortunate to only fire 3 clients in 30 years but my business was based on annual repeat work so it was important to nip that in the bud. Embrace the "No Assholes" rule.
You seem to have this problem often you need to learn to walk away after the first 5 minutes when your gut starts to turn. There’s more than enough good customers to pick and choose from.

The electronic complexity of modern boating is completely stupid . From a Electrical , Electronic engineer +
It’s the same with new cars.

Is Volvo going with modules and engine computers where you’d need factory diagnostic software on new power trains ?
Volvo Penta uses the vodia which reads the engine codes.
